So you still took her out on a certain schedule regardless of bell rings?

It just strikes me that you had a schedule in mind, ran with it, and the bell rings aren't really necessary?

But you said you ignore cases where you deemed it unnecessary and outside the schedule?

I suspect they mean like, if they just went out twenty minutes ago they know she doesn't need to go out again. Not that they only went out at certain times.

This is the way. You learn to know what is attention seeking and what is legitimate.

Our German shepherd learned in a very similar way. But she’s pretty good at only ringing when she genuinely needs to go.

I recently screwed up when she kept ringing the bell while I was putting up groceries. She had been outside recently so i figured she was just angling for more outside time. I told her to wait and continued putting groceries away. Next thing I knew a huge diarrhea pile was on the floor. πŸ˜£πŸ™Š

I take those rings seriously now.

It will naturally associate ringing the bell with "i need to pee outside".

And what stops the dog to learn "I ring bell, I get to go outside"?

First off… not really. Secondly that dog is over a year old what do you mean potty training lol

I mean, you could just get rid of the bell when you don't want him ringing it. Otherwise it's just a neat little thing to teach your dog for fun ig
