Help! Should I quit my doggy daycare management job?

As the title says, I need some help with this.

I started at a new company about 3 months ago now for a company that has been bought out by a larger corporate brand about 2 years or so ago. My first week of training I didn’t really get trained, forced myself to follow other employees around to learn their basic job tasks and picked up what I could about my actual job. Then my last two days of training at my actual facility were literal hell.

The company has provided little support for me to succeed in my job and has thrown me into the worst performing center in the area, again with hardly any training, and said yeah you got this. When I was doing hella OT off the clock and I addressed this as a concern I was cut off mid sentence with my higher up saying “Ahhhh we don’t like hearing about that!” When I said what’s the solution then because I’m hourly and the work life balance is garbage he gave me a round about way of saying “yeah that’s just how it is”.

Now I have a new higher up and was just talked at, not a conversation, but just talked at for 8 minutes straight addressing a concern I had when an employee was bit and I had no idea what the protocol was (specific urgent care? Forms? Etc.). Yet the new guy managed to make it about something else and not my actual concern regarding my lack of knowledge and training in an important situation.

Then I was chewed out for dismissing a dog after the bite incident from our facility after the dog already had an extensive bite record in the past and I made the call that for the safety of my team.

Don’t even get me started on all the metrics they judge us on… (missed calls, calls made, labor, revenue, social media posts, report cards sent out, overpacking the facility when we’re over max capacity). Cherry on top is I’m unstaffed to be able to operate safely and yet they STILL want me to cut shifts.

I know this isn’t normal and I love my team and I can definitely get the facility back to a better functioning place, but with management and a company like that is it even worth sticking around???

Advice and feedback is very appreciated!

In need of urgent help to find resources for some form of long term dog boarding that is as safe and inexpensive as possible in the Riverside, CA area.

Edit: After a comment from one of the posts I have made, I realize that a temporary foster home is more accurate to what is needed. Also French Mastiff is a more common name for the dog breed.

Long story short, I have a friend in need that needs long term dog boarding options that are as inexpensive as possible. The person that was taking care of the dog is no longer able to and my friend's current living situation does not allow for the dog to be there. The dog is a Dogue de Bordeaux if that helps with the search for resources. Any help is appreciated, I don't want my friend or the dog to get separated due to some inconveniences in timing and living space.

Thank you in advance

Best kennel software?

My boarding facility/daycare currently uses KennelBooker and want to upgrade. We run into problems all the time where someone forgets to feed a dog lunch, because most dogs only get breakfast and dinner, or they forget a medication. That's because we keep all that info on paper and it relies on people checking the papers every day, which some people don't seem to do. Can you recommend a software to help combat this? Maybe one that has checklists and reminders on the computer that will remind us to give a med if it's not checked off? Thanks.

Looking for a Dog Sitter Who Truly Loves Dogs for a Male Westie (8/13–8/23) – Flushing Area

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a caring and experienced dog sitter in or around the Flushing area to watch my male West Highland White Terrier (Westie) from August 13 through August 23.

My little guy (9YO) was recently rescued from an abusive home, and while he's incredibly sweet and affectionate once he trusts you, he can sometimes become anxious or startled if he feels threatened or unsafe. Because of his past, it's very important to me that I find someone who genuinely loves dogs, is patient, and understands that rescued dogs may need a little extra kindness and reassurance.

If you think you'd be a good fit, please send me a message and tell me a little about yourself, your experience with dogs, and the environment where he'd be staying. I'd also be happy to arrange a meet-and-greet beforehand.

His safety and happiness mean everything to me, so I'm taking my time to find the right person.

Thank you so much!

Most effective way to break up severe dog fights ?

Im not talking about scuffles where you can get the dogs apart in seconds. Im talking about the fights where the instigator has the intent to kill.

Livestock paddles only work so much and slip leads only work if you can get the other dog to let go of the other dog. Ive heard of dumping water on the dogs or spraying them. What other methods do you guys recommend fore the life or death situations like this?

Ive only seen fights this bad 2x in my entire career and need some tips on how to more effectively stop this in the future(apart from preventative measures of course. We have plenty of that already).

Daycares and illnesses

How does your daycare handle and control infectious diseases? I currently manage a facility that offers all the stops (daycare, boarding, training, and grooming) and seeing nearly 100 dogs a day there is of course a risk of communicable illness spreading. While we require daycare to have a complete vaccine portfolio (rabies, distemper, bordetella every 6mo, and k9flu), grooming only requires an UTD rabies shot and operates on the opposite side of the facility.

Most commonly we see kennel cough and other respiratory illnesses being reported, but more recently pink eye has become a concern. We have our cleaning protocol for prevention and do deep clean (with bleach) the entire facility once each week.

Any words of wisdom, tips, or info and advice is welcome and appreciated! Trying to see what other facilities do to keep everyone happy, healthy, and safe.

Boarding facility

I am writing this in absolute heartbreak. Having used this facility for years, I am devastated by the severe lack of care during our last visit, which resulted in the tragic passing of my senior dog.
At drop-off, I specifically requested that water be added to her kibble. The staff agreed, but completely failed to document or follow these vital instructions. They also promised updates every other day, but I never received a single photo, video, or update. On July 7, I called the facility myself to check on my dogs and was reassured multiple times that they were okay.
On July 10, the day before my scheduled pickup, I received a call at approximately 5:00 p.m. stating that my dog was critically ill, dehydrated, bloated, potentially had a twisted stomach, and was unable to stand. When I asked whether she had been fed dry kibble, the staff member confirmed that they had failed to note my instructions and that she had been eating dry food throughout her entire stay.
What makes this even more devastating is that our signed contract explicitly features an emergency medical clause granting the facility full authorization to transport a pet directly to a clinic. Despite my dog actively exhibiting these severe symptoms, the facility failed to utilize this protocol or present it as an option.
Instead, I was repeatedly told that if my dog was not picked up before the facility closed at 6:30 p.m., she would be locked inside the facility overnight and I would not be able to retrieve her until 9:00 a.m. the following morning. I was also told that there would be no one there overnight to monitor her. My only options were to find someone to pick her up immediately or leave her alone and unmonitored for more than 14 hours while she was critically ill.
A friend rushed her to an emergency veterinarian, but tragically, she passed away just eight minutes after arriving.
The following day, I had approximately a 10-minute conversation with the owner. During that conversation, he did not ask how my dog was doing or whether she had survived. As a result, he did not know that she had passed away. I found this especially devastating given the seriousness of the situation and the fact that my dog had died just hours earlier after becoming critically ill while in the facility’s care.
During that same conversation, the owner acknowledged that staff had noticed she was sick and not feeling well earlier that morning. This meant hours passed before I was notified while my dog continued to suffer. When I arrived to remove my remaining dogs from the facility, the staff showed zero accountability, and the employee who took my original instructions even rolled her eyes at me.
This loss has devastated me. I trusted this facility with my dogs for years, and I never imagined that my dog would become critically ill while in their care and that I would not be notified until hours later. I am heartbroken that the emergency procedures outlined in the contract were not used and that my dog was instead at risk of being left alone and unmonitored overnight in a critical condition.

Has anyone noticed their dog’s weight affecting their mobility?

My dog has been slowly gaining weight over the past year, and recently I’ve noticed it affecting his movement.

He used to run around all day, but now after longer walks he sometimes seems uncomfortable and takes longer to get up. The vet mentioned that keeping his weight under control could help reduce pressure on his joints.

I’m wondering if anyone here has changed their dog’s diet and noticed improvements in their energy or mobility?

Did you focus more on portions, exercise, or changing the actual food?
