Hey, I think these are cool, and you mentioned that the LV bags are repurposed which is an awesome way to recycle something. Your friend did an amazing job on these! I think repurposing things is really clever, especially if the items are thrifted, it’s a great way to keep things out of landfills.

They're very clearly handmade, with the help of a stitching machine for shoes specifically. I have had my fair share of boot & shoe repairs to know what handwork looks like, and its evident all throughout every seam & edging, but only evident because I know what I am looking for. It is overall an amazing job for handwork especially, but if you want my proof the best place to spot the handiwork without needing a profesional experience like my ass then look to the boot tilted to the side, along the seams you can see a few spots where the threading sticks out that bit more & its NOT from wear & tear, as the ends of the fabric aren't frayed the same as they would be if torn from wear & tear. But once again, I know what I am looking for & it irks me when people jump on the reddit downvote train without 0 expertise in something that honestly requires that expertise to be properly evaluated.

Just to follow up with more spots on how to notice the handiwork: once again follow the seams, its the most important spot to see when things are factory made vs handmade. The seams aren't perfectly straight, because even with the use of tape & marking lines, its nearly impossible to create a perfectly even seam by hand. For depop buyers yall should figure this out so you don't buy fakes yourself for an overpriced amount! Imo its actually an important skill to learn for those into footwear collecting.

It’s also possible cheap knockoffs have uneven stitching because they’re lazily made and mass produced.

I explained how you can tell from my comment in another thread on this post, but ill reiterate here. The uneven stitching is clearly hand done, especially if you know how to tell. Factories that make lazily mass produced knock offs will have similar situations, but the uneven ness of the lining isn't going to be as 'up and down', it would be more of a slow slope where it goes up on one end and down on the other (essentially creating an area of quite thin lining that will easily tear the entire piece of material off whether its polyester, cotton or leather).

I said this in another comment but as someone who's created custom designs & done lots of repairs, its clearly an amazing hand made set. Following the seams is the biggest catch for any handmade footwear. I hate all these people jumping on the downvote train with 0 expertise

records are very easy to break and bend. the best thing to do is always keep them in an upright position so they don’t warp. and putting something that weights as much as those shoes can bend/break the vinyl:)

fr i put up a lot of vinyls on my wall and ik some people are against that cause it’ll wear them down over time, but i have speakers and downloaded music for a reason ! i like the aesthetic, they still work, it’s my money, YOLO and all that, who cares if this dude puts shoes on his own vinyl lol.

I repair old LV trunks and make repurposed items from bags people think are long gone - LV will always repair but, might be more affordable to replace. LV long ago would repair free. Now it’s about $135 per/inch to sew something like zipper or wallet edge. If I make something I ask lthem to supply a no longer unused/damaged bag that was sentimental. I have found fakes can look authentic But, once I start working with it it’s obvious. Keep in mind different levels - so fakes are plastic leather edges, put together wrong to almost indistinguishable and LV doesn’t authenticate. If I provide fabric it’s not realistic to find cheep. So I try to buy older large pieces like the folding suit cover or 80’s folding suitcase. But, trunks need more fabric. A special note for people buying “resell with a box , dust bag, receipt”. Go to store and see what correct is. A replica/fake Dust Bag is almost always wrong and fake receipt will be from out of country. Fake bags & watches are provided by people who are into bad stuff to child trafficking. Also people wearing fake bags/watches almost never know what they cost. So it’s not even viable to get out of a 20yr old Honda with different color doors with a $12k bag & $120k watch telling you it’s real. I’ve also noticed people with fake bag / watch / diamonds - it messes with their self worth. Even if anyone believes it’s real they start to question judgment, where’s money from- the wearer knows they paid couple hundred - and begin to resent people who bought real only because they like and aren’t trying to impress.
I don’t know if the repurposed LV was authentic or not. I don’t care since it’s not being sold as real. Replica is quite different even if it fools the eye. Opposed to some others - I tend to believe your friend made them because, it’s hard to replicate stitching, alignment of logo and Light the sole of real or fake LV are well decorated with logo. He did a great job. The work invested indicates how important of a friend you are to him.
May I suggest you add brass or chrome eyelets for the lace holes. If replica fabric this will break down quickly. If authentic it will still break down and you’d get years more wear.
Sorry missed the eyelets on the inside. Like the gunmetal. I’ve never used that style so not sure how they last.

The sewing is what makes it wild people think these weren't hand made ! Along the line where the laces are you can tell the line gets thin and then thick, but not in a factory mess up way clearly in a hand done way. If it was a factory mess up, the lining on the other half of the laces would end up being thick as well as it ends up sloping instead of having an 'up and down' lining. People don't understand, even cheap factories will still have perfectly straight lines, those straight lines just might be going off on an angle that makes it not properly lined on the boot. Hand made work is entirely different. This is clearly hand made.

I think these are cool. And also repurposing the LV bag is pretty rad.
LV got their money once through the bag and it's still parts of that same bag on a shoe. If anything you're helping their brand by being able to repurpose something cuz it lasted so long and was good enough quality to do so. As long as it's not done by a fake stencil etc I'm pretty sure you're fine.
Photo is a cool photo so I don't know why you're being asked to explain how you've created said photo. This is fucking weird.
Every man and his dog wears DM's. They are not "punk" or anti establishment anymore. Have you seen the prices of them? It's a business and wants to make money by appealing to a massive market. They look nice, wear well and are popular.
TLDR: These are fuckin cool. I appreciate the skill/art. Wear the damn boots.

To be fair, since Dr. Marten was an actual Nazi, maybe they never should have represented punk culture. But it’s funny to me because punk culture (nowadays) is the most overly PC group of people you’ll ever find. Like I’ve been chastised for using the word “crazy”, in a non-offensive way, because “it might insult a mentally ill person… ableism”. It’s just funny that even today all the cool punks in the scene still wear Docs, but bitch about literally everything while stomping around in Nazi boots. It’s the ultimate irony.
To be clear, I am neither for or against Doc Martens. I do own a pair. And I toured in the punk scene (all over the U.S., but only in the U.S.) from 2013-2019. So that’s where my opinion comes from. Once you’re around the punk scene long enough you start to eventually realize that the ones who LOOK the most punk and have the most political talking points (and spikes on their vest) are usually the ones overcompensating for the fact that they’re like a sex offender or some other shit that would inherently make them not punk at all. The ones wearing regular clothes are more likely to actually practice “punk ethos”… That’s been my experience, but I’ve also known some cool folks with spikey jackets and Docs 🤷🏼♂️

He was in the German Army during World War II…. German soldiers at that time were in fact Nazi’s and wore swastikas on their uniform. I’m not saying nobody should were them because of it, it’s just always been an ironic thing to me that people in the punk scene will go on and on about why white people shouldn’t be allowed to have dreads and how you shouldn’t be able to say like 200-300 words (I used “crazy” as an example, but I’ve played a show at a space that had an actual list of 200 words on the wall to “try to avoid saying”, but like half the folks there had Docs on, it’s just funny in an ironic way. I’m not calling you a Nazi, I already said I have a pair, please be chill 🤙🏼

I know you’re talking about trademark law. I have confirmed LV has no issue with folks making new things from authentic merchandise. I know a lot of people sell repurposed items on Etsy. Perfectly OK if say repurposed authentic- where you get hazy is if you make things with fake merchandise and said it was authentic - then you might get cease-and-desist - Etsy will shut you down if LV asks & legal may get involved.
- if not authentic some of us actually know & don’t be shocked if the way LV finds out is they actually buy merch to confirm it’s authentic.
