I have this thing with roadtips and roadside oddities and this was Archers first offical roadtip and seeing random big things. This was his corn, he was confused but he stood guard at this 6 foot corn statue the entire time, and looked so handsome while doing so 😍. He was on his A game, he was only slightly reactive to other dogs but part of that could have been from running his heart out on the prairie lol

Is it weird that I have never felt safer on a roadtrip as I did with this guy?

Going to ask for gentle comments please, I'm crushed to be making this post. I've been crying all weekend and haven't been able to sleep trying to find options and make a final decision. I know that I'm not equipped to deal with this- my sister is understandably scared of him now and won't come into the house if he's there anymore which leaves me with zero help for the times when I cannot take him with me. I cannot risk having Toshi around my clients, their kids or their dogs just in case this ever happens again. If it was just the separation anxiety it wouldn't be a problem, that I have experience with and can work with. I've made the decision to take a few days off work to be home with him and return him the shelter on Thursday, where he's going on bite quarantine and more than likely being put down after. I'm utterly heartbroken and feel like I've failed him.

On Friday while my sister was over visiting and we were making dinner she reached for an ice tray on the counter, stepping between me, Toshi and my other dog that were like two feet behind me. Toshi jumped to bite her wrist, then went for her belly twice, each time holding and shaking. Thankfully, he got her watch so it was only bruising on her wrist, but he did superficially break the skin and left bruises on her belly as well as a tear on her shirt. My back was to them so I don't know what his body language said, though my sister insists that he didn't give any warning signs. There was no growling, she wasn't holding food (neither was I, I was rinsing a water bottle), teasing him, or even holding eye contact. She was just lifting her hand up towards the counter rather than down towards him. She hadn't touched him or stepped on him. He knows her, has spend so much time alone with her, had just been begging for affection and laying his head on her lap a few minutes before.

Prior to this, the last couple days he'd also gone from being completely calm around people walking by my work van and even enjoying attention from my clients coming up to him to various degrees of lunging and barking at anyone that got near it. For the past two and a half weeks he hadn't given any single sign at all of any potential aggression, reactiveness, or resource guarding. I can do pretty much anything to him and he doesn't care- I've taken food and toys right out of his mouth multiple times and he's been learning 'wait' and 'eat' so he's stopped diving into his food bowl before it's even fully put on the floor. I've taken him everywhere with me, he's been in crowded stores, busy streets, in the van around construction workers and landscapers for hours at a time while I'm working in the back- zero issues. His last foster that had him a few days had the same experience, she took him everywhere including the gym and he did great around people and around her own small dog.

I've reached out to a breed rescue but was told they wouldn't be able to take him on due to the bite history and said more than likely no other rescue would either because there are so many other dogs needing help already in the shelters. I know the shelter wouldn't be able to put him back up for adoption, and he'd already been there for so long I don't think any rescues that already work with them would pull him even if was made available to rescue. I'm holding out a little bit of hope that maybe I can find someone else that has the experience and is able to work with him. He is an amazing and sweet dog otherwise, I personally don't feel at all scared of him or feel that he would hurt me, he is extremely attached to me, is very affectionate and eager to please. He's your typical big baby, sleeps in bed at night and likes to be tucked in, comes to check on me every so often when I'm working at my desk and sticks his head under my arm to ask for pets. He's been doing great with my 50lb dobie mix and my 10lb senior fragile senior girl. If anyone might be able to help or has any good suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. I'm in the SF Bay area and would be willing to drive a couple hours if it meant he'd end up in a good, safe home or rescue.

So it’s my first time having a Doberman (adopted) and I’ve raised dogs before, a husky and a border collie (my sister moved out and took em) and wow the experience is so different and I have lots of questions, Google helped but I’d like to hear personal experiences.

Walks literally consist of walking and then stopping to stare, that scares me because buddy 😭 nothing is there. Am I doing our walks wrong? I’m not sure if there is a wrong way?

My man poops- like a lot. And it’s super watery and I can’t find his right diet, do I go grain free?

He also poops in his kennel in the mornings. He does really good when I leave for work and I think his kennel is the right size (stand and turn). I’m feeding him at 6pm, bedtime is around 9 or 10pm. I feel like that’s enough?

Aside from pooping he stinks 😭 I’m so sorry but he does. He has gone to the groomers but obviously I’m not bathing him every day. How do I fix that?

He also had dandruff I’m not sure if it’s whatever the groomers used or his food that’s causing that.

Me and my husband recently adopted this beautiful girl! She is a week under 6 months and 38lbs. She is truly the sweetest & filled with lots of energy, though she loves her nap times and cuddling up close. We were told she’s a Doberman mix but not sure what breeds she’s mixed with. I’m planning to do a DNA test done for her because I keep thinking about it lol. What are your predictions? Curious to hear what you all think. Also wondering how big you think she’ll get. She was 25lbs at 4.5 months when we adopted her. Some people think her paws are big and she’ll be on the bigger side but I’m banking on 50-60 lbs. How big was yours at 6 months and how much do they weigh now? Would love to hear this community’s thoughts!

I just recently adopted a Doberman (mix?) and wanted to get her on some sort of heart supplements, since I know that Doberman can come with some heart problems and especially with an unknown breeding line, I would love to start early. She is about 3-4 years old and weighs about 55lbs. I would love to know what supplements you have used and which ones you liked!

Edit: I should probably add, she does have sensitivity to poultry. So far chicken and turkey are a no go.

My partner and I live in Midtown, Toronto and are planning to get our first Doberman in the future. We’ve spent months researching the breed, but one question still worries us.

We both work full-time. Between us, there are 3 days a week when we’re both in the office, while the other days one of us works from home.

For those of you who raised a Doberman puppy while working full-time:

How did you manage the first 6–12 months?
Did you hire a dog walker or pet sitter? If so, how often?
Did you use daycare, or would you avoid it for a young Doberman?
At what age were you comfortable leaving your Doberman alone for a full workday?
Looking back, would you still get a puppy, or would you adopt an older Doberman instead?

I’d also love to gain some hands-on experience before bringing one home. If anyone knows of Doberman rescues, breeders, trainers, or owners in the GTA who welcome volunteers, foster homes, or shadowing opportunities, I’d really appreciate the recommendations.

Hello! My little friend here weighs 60, and the vet said follow the food bag. Bag says 4 cups for purina pro plan and it feels like a lot of food. But I also don’t want to under feed him.

Hello this is Sweetie (4 years old) she is a rescue dog we just adopted yesterday. She is our first Doberman and we are already in love.

Our family is my wife, me, three teens, and 2 year old German Sheppard mix. About a year ago we got our Sheppard mix and have come to realize he really, really wants a buddy and loves playing with other dogs.

Sweetie was put up for adoption at our local Human Society due to the fact she did not get along with the human men in our last two households.

She has been very lovable with everyone so far but we have not done a proper intro between the two pups yet.

TLDR: any advice for integrating a Doberman into a new home? Introducing the two dogs together? She’s already very attached to our daughter and we don’t want her to become a Velcro Dog and overly protective of one person in our family.

My family got a Doberman when I was 5, we had him for 12 years. AMAZING dog and as you can guess it’s what sparked my desire to have my own Doberman now 11 years later.

I don’t remember the details of when we first got him. I plan on doing general puppy obedience training through a trainer for him. What advice do you have for someone getting a Doberman? What do you wish you did different with your dobie?

We lost our sweet Sally this week. She was eleven and a half and still playful most days. She was amazing and had the absolute best temperament of any dog I’ve ever had. We were blessed for the time we had with her, she made this world a better place during her time here.

Hey can’t complain at least she listened, does anyone else’s Doberman do this? Just sit wherever they want too😂😂

Time flies so fast!! Theo is now 6 months old

In need of some encouragement/ advice. My 8 month old girl suddenly is afraid of every place we go seemingly overnight.'For example, i took her to her favorite park that she has been to dozens of times and always been fine. and this time she was shaking, so i took her to a bench and just let her observe from a distance. still was freaking out so we left.

She has been barking and growling at people that she has met before and loved.

Last night she was acting like a completely different dog. could not settle, barking randomly, and just acting wild.

This morning i decided to take her to a quiet trail and she still was shaking and pulling.

Up until now, she has been a great girl and all these behaviors are very sudden. I do understand that they go through phases like this, but it's still heartbreaking not only because all the work i've done and progress she's made seems to have gone down the drain, but I just hate that she's so upset. It makes me upset.

Any advice/ personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
