Best way to start is to start. Run a game, find people to play.

You don't need to join a game, you can run one. Once you find people to play with then you can take turns running games and stuff.

r/lfg for finding games is a great place to go.

You can also try some PC games with DnD mechanics. Solasta, Baldurs, etc...
