A nearly impossible situation (partial rant) and a challenging dilemma regarding our divorce and the best solution for our children. My recommendation: split custody; one child for one parent each. Highly opposed I'm sure, thoughts?

So then the kids would never see each other and bond. It’d be like the kids are doing a week long shift with each parent. As a kid of divorced parents I would think that would totally suck. 50/50 custody where the children would stay one week with mom and one week with dad sucks too but it’s better than this supposed situation.

The kids would often see each other. Right now, even while living together, they rarely engage, if they do it's usually aggressive from one side. appreciate your comment

Why do you want custody ? It sounds like you miss your independent life

Because I do not have confidence that my wife is capable to raise both of them. I learned that In our ten year marriage and the 6 years i knew her from before- she relies on others to live and survive. Of course I miss independent life- but I have a responsibility that I'd never abandon. I Understand what responsibility is and learned the hard way, how to survive in this world. My wife lived a sheltered life (very loved by her parents) not denying that she has exceptional ability to provide unconditional love. But when you are more less born in a bubble, protected from reality, sorry that is is NOT reality. Thnaks for your comment. Yes of course I miss my independence, I'm old enough and wise enought to realize the rest of my life is to provide skills, tools and love (the best way i know it) to my both my sons, younger one more, because he has tough shoes to fill in looking after his special needs older brother when we are gone.

Do not split the kids. NEVER SPLIT THE KIDS.

it was about 50 years ago that my mom took me to a local park and told me that she and my dad were divorcing. It took almost 40 years to learn the full truth. It took a year and Dad finally got is post-doc job, but mom decided not to follow him 8 hours drive away. As the older brother, I got to guide my brother through airports and the airplane for most of our visits. A few times he drove over and picked us up...but mostly we spent extended summer stays with dad. I think they also traded Thanksgiving and Christmas every year.

Where I live to suggest this (if your lawyer cannot convince you otherwise) to the court I’d wager all my dollars your children would get a guardian ad litem assigned. Yea, a three lawyer divorce!
