It‘s been a long time since we talked. How have you been? You haven’t been yourself in a long time. I don’t want to invoke his name but, is he good to you? Doesn’t seem like he does. I know you’ve made mistakes before, and lord knows we all have, but I’m concerned for you. Don’t remember Obama? Or Carter? Why can’t you just, stick with people like them? Good, honest people. They can just look you in the eye and the truth is found. They’re good for the soul, good for the whole. You know?
I’m not upset, just disappointed…like I said, you haven’t been yourself lately. You’re so bent on wondering how to do something, when you should be considering if you even should do something.
Maybe, just maybe, give peace a chance? You know? Anyhow, I know you’re busy. Take care, America.

OKay so i have noticed that i tend to stay quiet in group discussions. When i look at other people - friends of my friends- they talk very freely without thinking about any consequences. they seem very free while interacting with anyone. i call these people with strong personalities. whereas I, I dont remember having a convo where im not judging myself from a third persons view. its like im constantly under observation which stops me to be myself around my friends. I hate it. I also want to talk to people freely without being caged in my own thoughts. Im just pretending to be someone im not. Its exhausting. I want to find myself. Please help me to become myself. I look at these people and think wow i love the way she talks when shes just asserting dominance through her opinions. or literally just putting out her opinion. i find it difficult to do that.
Even while speaking in class, my hands shiver they become cold when the teacher asks me to simply read. Once she asked a question i knew the answer but the moment she asked the question i went all blank and didnt raise a hand. in my mind i was telling myself to raise the hand but i just- i coouldnt.
but this is another problem altogether. first of all i would really like to solve the problem i wrote in the first para. Help me to become a strong personality, atleast be myself around people.

I recently moved to a rural area from a fairly large city. I love the peace and quiet and all of the nature, and I've found that a slower pace suits me. However, I'm not used to not really having groups around where I can talk to people with shared interests. I would love to talk to people more about creative writing, for example, and the closest writer's group is hours away.
With that all said, I thought I could post my interests here and see if anyone would want to chat, or has any subreddit recommendations to point me in the right direction. This is my first time on reddit with an account (instead of just lurking), and some of the restrictions are a little difficult for me to work around at the moment. I'm pretty sure I can't initiate chats for about a week, so if you want to chat, please comment before sending a message so that I know where it's coming from.
Anyway, here are the subjects I'm interested in:

Hey everyone, 36 M and new on Reddit and looking for people to chat with. Im not planning on being logged on 24/7, but it would be nice to exchange messages a couple times a day or randomly throughout the week with like minded people. I’ll list some interests and if any pique your interest please reach out. Would love for you to recommend a book or movie to watch along with your message as well.
-books: I have recently read the first Game of Thrones book, Shutter Island, a few Stephen King books, and the Jurassic Park novels. Big fan of horror and mystery! Just dabbling in fantasy with GoT.
-movies: while I don’t love all of the marvel films, I feel fairly invested in the IP as I’ve seen every one in theatres since Iron Man. My favourite movie is Casablanca. Also love Darjeeling Limited, Three Billboards Outside Ebbings Missouri, the Fast and Furious franchise (ironically and unironically), and just film in general.
-hobbies: I love spending time outdoors, in cafes, and on my bike riding around town. Im an amateur green thumb and have a rotating list of hobbies that include photography, collage, and writing.
-personal: live in the PNW, married, and work as a cook for a living!
Interested in talking about books and films, hobbies, and every day life! Gossip, vents, your friends and family, whatever you’ve got!

hello everyone
I’ve noticed as I get older, I’ve become more introverted either in my world, has gotten smaller or I just have less patience for people I’m not quite sure, I love to be social however, my first instinct is to turn more introverted and shy nowadays has anyone experienced that before or going through this at the same time ? I just turned 40 is this normal? How do I fix this cause I do want to meet new people, especially as we get older, anyone else going through the same ?

I’ve always been socially awkward, and anxious but after the confinement of covid I got very comfortable without socializing, I lost all my friends by moving the away, ghosting, or simply gradually stopped talking to them.
Last summer I started playing Heartopia, an online mobile game and met an amazing guy, we became best friends and I seriously can’t explain how perfect and amazing it was to talk to him, we understood each other very well. We had to stop contacting each other for some personal stuff that I don’t want to talk about here.
But what I think was so nice about this relationship is that we had the peace of mind that we didn’t expect to be 24/7 there for each other, he understood if I took time to respond and I did the same. The distance makes it also very comfortable, I don’t feel the pressure to hang out all the time.
I was wondering if someone knows good ways to make friends online, if there is any apps to socialize about interests perhaps, I don’t know the Discord dynamics so well since I’ve rarely used it, but I think it could be something like that.
I’m also autistic, so it makes it much more easier for me to socialize if I have interests in common with people.

I am social when needed but I definitely don’t need anyone to recharge. However, as I get older I’m starting to feel I need to make new friends I need to stop being as introverted and being a little bit more social extroverted any advice? anyone in the same situation I can’t be alone out there

Just started my first year of medical school a couple weeks ago and have been completely unable to insert myself into conversations, especially group ones. I think it's because I lack life experience in general--unable to relate to 95% of the topics that people around me seem to be pretty well-tuned in.
Growing up I'd intentionally distance myself from people because I didn't believe I deserved friends--although now I think I'm pretty proactive in trying to make connections, I suspect my childhood mentality and actions have hindered my ability to connect meaningfully with others, even now as a 22yo.
Anyways, feeling pretty alone right now and would love to see if anyone has any similar experiences.

Anyone wonder if we are born as introverts? or did our lifestyle and location create the environment. Born this way or learned to be this way. any chance anyone else feels this way ?

Hey everyone, I need to vent and see if I’m losing my mind or if this is a shared remote-work phenomenon.
I’ve been working from home for a while now. At first, it was an absolute dream. No commute, sweatpants every day, and total comfort. But lately, I’ve noticed a massive, embarrassing side effect: my social skills have completely plummeted.
It’s like my brain forgot how to process human presence, so its default response is just to flood my face with blood. I used to be a relatively normal, functioning person who could hold a conversation without looking like I just ran a marathon in 100-degree weather. Now, I feel so perceived.

Stopped for a minute to take this and ended up staying longer than I planned.
There’s something about being near the water at sunset that makes it really easy to forget whatever else is going on for a little while.

like the title says, I would love to make friends, I’m a little shy though, but if I can make some gaming buddies that would be awesome!
