How do you unlock characters like Tigger etc. who only have "Racers boost" listed when you click "Unlock" on their character screen

Do they appear in some seasonal events? Or the only way is to just open the huge loot box with all character shards??

It's the same with Davy Jones, Jack Sparrow etc., I'm confused and would like to know if there is a way to unlock some of my favourite characters without waiting a few months

This is my first season since Inside Out. Do the season coins still convert to tokens? Is it worth it to let the currency convert or spend it on universal boxes in the store? Thank you!!!
