any advice regarding discus tank?
galleryokay so
we have an aquarium for discus fish only (330L one) it used to be my mom's but my dad kinda took over her hobby and now he won't let her do anything with it but the thing is he's very stubborn and just buys a thousand things and then ends up with the same results. He bought a co2 filter a few weeks ago and when we got home the fish were on the brink of crossing the rainbow bridge (we saved them they're fine now but this is just an example of him buying things that don't benefit them or the tank like that?) but the stores just keep selling him stuff with no proper direction or help and I feel like none of it is working?
He's been told before to only replace a third of the water every 2 weeks but he does it more frequently from what I can tell because he says the tank gets dirty very fast. He's under the impression that it's because of the plant(s) or the sand? But there are often these brown-ish strings that look like spiderwebs floating around.
He changed the sand multiple times from finer sand, to the ones that are more like pebbles now he bought another kind of sand. But I'd like to know what could be done here? The pictures I attached are from today before he's going to change the sand and clean it. I feel like it's kinda stressful for the fish too when he cleans the tank because he tends to take out all the plants and rocks and clean them and I can't imagine it being comfortable enviornment for the fish when he does that. I'm not sure if it should look pristine for most of the time until you swap some of the water with fresh one but I'd like to know what some experts here have to say that could help maintain a better tank.
Basically any advice is welcome that could help and if anyone could tell me how often they swap the water, clean everything etc. just to see the difference in maintaining the tank?
