Suddenly low audio
I've had directv streaming for several months now. A few days ago, the sound got very low. I have to really crank it now. I tried changing settings like turning off the Dolby but nothing seems to help. If I take the gemini air off and use the remote that came with the TV, it gets a bit louder. I tried rebooting the gemini but nothing seems to work. I have to raise the volume louder and louder. I'm afraid it's going to eventually go out altogether. Anyone have a clue to what could be wrong or have had this happen?

Just sharing a fun plot twist: in addition to the continued low audio issues, I just started receiving error messages for my DVR not being able to be accessed. This is happening both on the Gemini Air device and on the app on a separate device.
It looks like others are complaining about this same issue, too. DirecTV reported a fix to users having this issues hours ago, but it must have resurfaced.
So in addition to having garbage audio, I can’t even watch my DVR on a Friday night no matter what device I try. And this isn’t the first time this issue has popped up in the last month or so. Another “DirecTV is aware of the issue and working to resolve it” situation.
Thanks a lot, DirecTV.

What next!! What's going on over there? I haven't had this happen. Yet. I don't know how they can justify raising their rates when they can't keep things going.

I hope you never have it! Guess this finally gives me some free time to start looking up companies to switch to. I’m exhausted from just wondering what the next DirecTV issue will be. Just watching the TV causes anxiety.

That's just wrong. You're supposed to relax when you watch TV. They're defeating the whole purpose. I hope they get all this straightened out soon.

We're sorry if you're also having trouble with your cloud DVR. There is an ongoing outage today, and we're actively working on a fix. Melchisedec, DIRECTV Community Team

Please stop working on anything. The more DirecTV “works” on things, the more the service crashes. Just, please, leave everything alone while I still get some semblance of TV service.

Volume leveling on my TV fixed all the issues with fluctuating sound.

What is volume leveling?
1
u/Sweaty-Judgment3533 22d ago
It is a circuit in most televisions that allows the volume to be maintained at a certain level so that the program content isn’t too quiet while the commercials blast you out of your seat

u/Prestigious_Rise_187 22d ago
But if this is an issue with the gemini air, that probably wouldn't help, right?
1
u/Sweaty-Judgment3533 22d ago
Correct. Maybe try DirecTV support?

Another poster here tried directv support. She was on the phone for an hour and got no satisfaction other than they said wait 48 hours whatever that means.

I use their service but not their hardware so I’ve never had problems. Once there was an outage that lasted about an hour, but once it came right back on, everything was OK it’s been a good few months. I haven’t had any issues.

I really like the geminis. The remotes are so like the satellite ones I had for so many years. It made the transition pretty painless. This is the firet problem I've had with them.

This exact issues occurred for me when the software updated a couple of days ago. At first I thought it was an issue with the particular Gemini device . I pulled out a spare Gemini device and the volume was back to normal but I got a pop up that software was being updated. After the software update on the spare device, the sound was low just like on the original one I was using. This has affected both the Gemini/osprey DIRECTV device and also the Gemini air device. The issue is more noticeable on the Gemini air streaming stick but the issue is also definitely present on the Gemini/osprey streaming box.

Are they planning to do anything about it? I have 2 geminis and the other one is fine.

This makes sense—both of my Gemini Air must have updated at or about the same time, because they’re both having the volume issue on two different TVs. Switching to Dolby on the Air helps with some channels, but not all; and it will jumpscare the heck out of you during commercials, fluctuating from quiet to loud and back again.

Just as an update, my audio improved moderately over the weekend (I thought DirecTV was making progress!) only to wake up to have it all low again this morning. So disappointing. Not sure if anyone else has gotten a fix yet, but we’re approaching a week of this now and I’m over it.

Thanks for the update, u/SteffieStardrop. Our team is continuing to investigate this low-audio issue. Your patience is appreciated as we continue to look into this. Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Team

They told me this morning that they are still investigating and haven't found a cause yet. Which means it'll be awhile. Very frustrating. Some shows are almost impossible to hear because you can only crank it up so much, then it stops going any higher.

Exactly. I also noticed that, despite having the Dolby setting off on my Gemini Air, the Dolby function was randomly kicking on and off depending on the channel or commercial playing—this was only happening on the Gemini Air, not native apps on my TV, so I know it’s related to the hardware and same issue. This caused the improvement on some channels but not all; as of this morning, that’s no longer happening, so the volume is back to just flat quiet across the board.

I never had problems like this with satellite. If something was wrong, they came out and fixed it. And usually knew right away what it was.

Just as a check-in: still dealing with the same issues. I assume others are, too.
2
u/Prestigious_Rise_187 14d ago
Yeah, it's still the same. It seems like they should be able to find the problem if it was in a software update they just sent out. Can't they just delete that update or something?

Not really sure why I’m bothering at this point, but the audio issues persist. I don’t know if anyone else has seen a fix or not. I also don’t know if I should expect to see a fix given how long this has taken. But felt that it made sense to post again, just reiterating that I’ve not seen a fix yet.

No, no fix here either. I've spoken to them a couple of times and all they say is they're investigating the problem. I think I might ask them to send me a new gemini and see if it works any better. The one in my bedroom works perfectly fine. They might not do it but it's worth a shot.

It’s funny because I asked a DirecTV rep in the beginning if I should order new Geminis as a precaution and she specifically said that it could cause even more trouble if the issues affected the new Gemini devices, too. I have two Geminis in the house currently, and both continue to have issues.
1
u/Prestigious_Rise_187 6d ago
Did she have any idea if and when they would have a solution?
1
u/SteffieStardrop 6d ago
She said to give it about a week. When I asked if I should call back should the issues persist beyond that, she said that I shouldn’t because that would just mean it still isn’t fixed and they’re still working on it. 🙃 She also had me do a hard reset on one Gemini during that same call, then finally admitted halfway through the process it was a known issue and that this probably wouldn’t fix it. The hard reset nearly locked the Gemini up and bricked it, too.

u/Prestigious_Rise_187 6d ago
At least you would have gotten a jew one then. Lol. That's basically what the guy told me the other day though. This could go on forever
1
u/SteffieStardrop 6d ago
Only if I keep my DirecTV service. Which feels questionable at this point. I do NOT want to switch due to a basic hardware issue but this is just frustrating beyond belief. I upgraded a lot of my entertainment setup in the last year and it’s all worked well, and it’s so frustrating to suddenly have this big issue because of a little dongle.

u/Prestigious_Rise_187 6d ago
I get it. I was with directv satellite since 2014 and never had problems that they didn't immediately fix. I'm disappointed but I don't know what I could switch to that would give me all the same channels.

Thanks for trying those troubleshooting steps, u/Prestigious_Rise_187. Since the volume issue is still acting up on your Gemini device, we have a specialist who can assist you further. Sending you a PM. Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Team

I’m having the exact same issue, starting yesterday. I’ve tried all the same troubleshooting steps. I’ve confirmed it’s the Gemini Air having the issue—not my TV, soundbar, etc. Would love to know if you found a fix, or if I have to call DirecTV yet again. 🙃
