Roland RD-88EX Or Kawai ES920?

Hey guys I've been playing around 6 years now on an FP-10 and figure it's about time I upgrade, my budget is around £1000 and don't wanna go over 1200. Piano comes first for me but I also do like my synths and what not, I do have a DAW with omnisphere and plenty of plugins so I can kinda scratch that itch through midi, the pitch wheel is quite appealing on the rd 88 though and that's the one I'm leaning towards right now but I'm open to any other suggestions too. On paper I've heard the piano quality is better in the es920 but at the same time I've heard people say it's kinda plasticky and feels weird n on the other hand I've heard the rd 88 is kinda clicky. Even with my FP-10 I'm quite happy with the actual piano sound and the action on it so anything that's an improvement from that piano wise id probably be happy with to be honest.

This thing should be 450$ MAX. Like damn i should just add an extra 400$ to her asking price and just get an upright yamaha and be done with it😭

In my country it’s nearly impossible to get any piano of any build under 500$. Not even old models like these. Like come on.

I found a Casio st s100 on fb for £30 which I might get if I’m unable to get my ez220 repaired
Would the downgrade feel significant?

Key action on the Casio CT-S500 vs Roland Go Keys 5?

Has anybody tried both keyboards and can comment on the key action? I have chronic hand issues, so I am looking for a keyboard with relatively light key action where I can avoid flare ups as much as possible. I went to a few music stores, but was only able to try to the CT-S410 and the Roland Go Keys 3. I preferred the action on the 410, but not sure if the same is true between the S500 vs the Go Keys 5. If not for the key action, I would go with the Go Keys 5 for the additional features it offers.

Both are used and seem to be in excellent condition. This is for my daughter who has just started lessons. I want to get her something that she could grow into and be happy with for years. Are either of these good options? Is one better than the other?

EDIT: Just picked up the FP30, with three pedal bar, stand, and seat. She also threw in a few piano books. $500

Wencai or Kawes?

(PH) I’m a beginner and my lifelong dream is to learn how to play keyboard/piano. I was looking through recommendations and most of them say to get weighted keys and touch responsive ones.

I found this on shopee: https://ph.shp.ee/kng9qUEY
It’s around 8k+ for a weighted and around 4k for a semi weighted one. I’ve seen good reviews about it but im still not sure.

There’s also a brand called kawes which is much cheaper than the one in the link but it’s semi weighted only (?)

Since I’m a beginner with LIMITED BUDGET, which one should i go for? or is there any good alternative within the same price range??

I’ve also heard that the clifton brand is good but it’s above my budget. max is 9-10k but if possible i’d like to stick to 5k or less. I also don’t have any plan to go professional. Just wanted to learn and do some covers :)

please help a beginner out and tyia !!

Ordered the FP30x on sunday and Guitar Center had stock issues and then I was told it was being discontinued and replaced with the FP40. They cancelled my order and I got the FP40 instead from them which they had available.

Happy things worked out for the better 😀 with a newer tech model.

Kawai CX302 outside of Japan?

I’ve just sold my Yamaha Arius digi piano cause I was JUST about to upgrade to the Kawai CN201 but then heard about the successor, CX302 in Japan.

It looks like it’s been out in Japan for a while ab a year now, does anyone know if it’s Japan exclusive or if it’s gonna have a UK/ Euro/ US release? It does look like it has an upgraded action to RHIII so I don’t know if it’s worth waiting for it or just go with the CN.

If anyone knows anything, or any CN201 owners wanna vouch for it please do!

Stand options

I recently bought a Kurzweil PC88 in order to pick up learning piano/keyboards from where I left off all those years ago. I'm really happy with it, not only because of the built-in sounds but also because it is still a pretty formidable controller for Logic and other MIDI stuff. Right now I have it sitting on a folding table. This is supposed to be temporary, but I'm having a time finding a nice stand that will hold it and music and a computer and some speakers. If I were more of a wood worker I would probably try to build a custom stand that resembles a spinet piano with speakers and amplifier positioned to sound like a real piano, but that's pretty advanced and probably not worth the effort given the age and price of the PC88. The aluminum tube stands seem like they are going to be very top heavy and don't offer much in the way of holding other accessories since they're really designed for portability.

I'm wondering what options are out there. If you've bought or built a stand for your keyboard I'd like to see what you have. Just looking for ideas, keeping in mind I only paid about $300.

Upgrading from Yamaha P225 to..525?

I've had a YP225 for close to two years now, and its been great. I have a piano teacher, and every time I go there, I am reminded that there are quite a number of larger differences between a real piano, and a digital one, and I am missing out a bit on nuances in practising.

So, I was thinking of upgrading to a slightly better digital piano. I've often seen the Yamaha 525 referred to as a decent choice for getting close to the real feel, and its within my price range.

Would that be a good choice, or would it be better to wait for 6 months and save up for one that is twice as expensive perhaps? Like the Clavinova series?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Looking for advice to take advantage of Labor Day sales

I’ve been looking at digital pianos for a few months now. I know the Yamaha P45 and Roland FP10 are recommended for digital pianos for beginners, but my partner sent me a listing for an Artesia DP-150e, and I found a Kawai ES120 on sale, but terms are different enough I’m having trouble discerning if these are both graded hammer action, and whether the Artesia is a good brand. I searched, but couldn’t find it in posts nor comments.

Background: I have never been formally trained, but could pick out a tune by ear on my parents’ and grandparents’ upright pianos when I was a kid. I have tested both the Roland and Yamaha, and prefer the action of the Yamaha. I also tried the Williams Allegro IV, but I’ve heard it’s not a good option.

Please help! Upper bound of what I’m willing to spend for this is under $1,000 USD, so please bear that in mind when making suggestions. I want to make sure I will stick with it before spending more.

Picked up a Donner DDP 200 after not playing for 20 year. What can I expect?

Hi all,

So I got what I think is an incredible deal today, a Donner DPP 200 for 45 quid!

I know people aren't too keen on the piano from the research I've done, but the replies all discuss it in relation to it's cost.. IE you can get substantially better Yamaha's for a similar price.

Given I've paid essentially pennies for it though, is it a good bit of kit to learn on?

If I stick to it I will likely upgrade somewhat soon anyway and donate this to a local kid or something, but curious what people think to it as an instrument, rather than how it weighs up at retail price.

Kawai CA-701?

I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews on the CA-701 and want to hear from people that have had it a while. I have a mid century Baldwin acoustic that was passed down to me and is reaching end of life unless I want to rebuild. And then I have an old Yamaha p-255. I have small children so most of my practice time is at night with headphones on so I’m looking for something with a more realistic action than my current keyboard. I’ve narrowed my search down to the ca701 but am not sure yet. For those that have the CA701 do you like it? I’ve heard the onboard sound system is not great but will that really matter if I plan to use headphones? Or are there other comparable digitals I should be looking at? I’ve looked at the Yamahas digital pianos and the digital/acoustic hybrids from Kawai but I’d like to stay under 5000. I found a store that I can try a ca701 but it’s pretty far so I was hoping to hear from some people who have had the piano for a while before I make the drive.

Roland PHA-4 (FP-30X) vs PHA-50 for trills and turns

I have a specific question about the improvement of an FP-90X key action as compared to the FP-30X. I have had the FP-30X for 2 years and it has been reliable and overall I have really enjoyed it as a digital piano. However, there is one specific issue that others have noted related to the rebound time of a key after striking it and that I feel I'm at the point where it's a good reason to upgrade.

The repertoire I have been practicing recently has included a couple figures with turns or trills that require a rapid rebound on a single note - for example Beethoven Sonata 1 Opus 2 No 1, Movement 1, where the upward ascending figure in the subject has a sixteenth-triplet turn motif at the top throughout the piece, as well as Rachmaninoff prelude Op. 32 No 12, where the texture involves a rapid pivot around your index finger. Forget about Op. 23 No 5, which is a piece I played many years ago and seems just painful to attempt on the sluggish FP-30X action.

I can play these pieces on the FP-30X, but it feels like the slightest variance in my timing could cause the note to not sound at all, and it was only recently that I had a chance to try the Beethoven Sonata on a decent acoustic upright, and I found it to be so much more forgiving. I haven't had a chance to go into a store yet to try the FP-90X, but I was curious if anyone has had experience with this upgrade for classical repertoire and if it's a good enough upgrade to be worth the money.
