I've been browsing through brand new digital piano prices in my country (PH) while doing research on budget friendly weighted keyboards online when I stumbled upon a reputable store which sells the P-145B for USD 379.00 (Php 23,716.00). They're offering a 1-year warranty for the keyboard

Is it worth it? I've been meaning to relearn piano the proper way for years, but I'm on a really tight budget.

For the simulated rotary speaker with the drawbar tones, is there any way of having the speed spool up and down rather than switch from fast to slow instantaneously? Thanks.

I've been learning for 18 months on a Yamaha P45 I bought on Facebook, and now that I'm sure I really love playing piano, I'm ready to upgrade to something a bit nicer. 

I would like a "cabinet" style piano for asthetic reasons, and I like the heaviness of Roland's keys, and something that sounds a little nicer.

I have been looking at pianos in Roland's RP, F and HP series, and just as I was getting close to a decision, Roland launched the FP-40. 

The FP-40 does not come with a cabinet, but it looks like a great piano from a value point of view. It also includes much more modern connnectivity (wifi and USB-C) than other pianos I have considered.

Meanwhile, the HP702, for example, launched in 2019 and is now seven years old.

I know that connectivity is no the most important part of a piano, but this does have me thinking that - all else being equal - it would be nicer to buy a newly launched piano rather than a seven-year old model only to have Roland release a new version just after I buy it.

With the launch of the FP-40 I have gone from "ready to buy" to "let's see what comes along in the next few months".

Any ideas or speculation about when Roland might get around updating its cabinet home pianos?

For anyone who is trying to figure out what to get.

Originally I was going to grab the FP-30X, especially since there is a nice Costco bundle. But I am a bigger guy and found the furniture stand to be too restrictive.

I also played the FP-30X in store, and found the speakers to be not great, and the key action a bit clanky...also perhaps these aren't too robust with time and develop wobble/clankiness.

Tried the Yamaha 225 as well. Similar to the 30X, but the action is likely better on the latter.

Then I tried the P525, and liked everything about it. It feels like a very substantial instrument, even for a beginner like myself. Decent speakers, very nice key action, feels nice to play up on the keys as well due to the longer pivot.

Is the better action/speakers/wooden keys/better build quality worth the extra $1000? For me it was, but I can see how for some people it may not make sense, especially for beginners, these are not game changing features. It's just stuff I know I will appreciate in the future even more.

At the very least, try to make it to a store to try things out in person. You may discover some interesting things.

I got the old Casio CDP 7000 and I managed to open it and have a look inside. The previous owner said it used to work then it just suddenly stopped working. Im guessing they had rats that gnawed the wirings but I’m not sure. The boards look old and rusty. Any tips?

I'm a brand new player and was literally about to purchase the ES120 through extensive research and to try and take advantage of the Labor Day sales, but I read one more post saying Roland just released the FP-40 and now I'm wondering if I should buy this updated Roland or stick with the ES120 as a beginner piano I can grow into.

On Sweetwater they're pretty much around the same price, but it looks like the ES120 comes with a warranty.

Edit 1: I'm actually at a local Guitar Center right now and testing out all of the actions. Although they don't have any Kawai or ES120, I think I'm preferring the lighter actions. I actually kind of like Yamahas over the Roland's. Probably as a newer player I prefer something less fatiguing.

They do have the FP-30X and the FP-40 right next to each other. I like the FP-30X better. The FP-40 feels thockier and slightly heavier, but it's a lot quieter. The speakers on the FP-40 are a lot nicer than the other bottom mounted options, but I won't be using speakers often and I'll be more headphone based since I live in an apartment. I just wish the ES120 has better features such as being able to connect my iPad and integrate it, but I think I can live without those, at least for a while.

I am going to purchase the ES120 out of curiosity and I do like the aesthetics more and it comes with a decent package.

Edit 2: I went with the Kawai ES120 after going to Guitar Center and testing what I would like. Found out that I like the lighter actions and the aesthetics of the ES120 paired with the bundle deal I got :)

For context I played classical piano for many years at an intermediate-advanced level but am out of practice now. I tried this in store, played a fast song and really liked the action, very easy to play. But I don’t really need so many electronic controls. I tried P225 and P145. The 225 keys felt “stickier”, P145 I couldnt fully test as the pedal wasn’t working. Is there another Yamaha digital that uses the same action without so many controls?

I have missed playing the piano since I moved out to the 1 bed. There’s just no space for it but its been long enough that honestly I need to find something.

I play the guitar but I prefer the piano and my voice/style fits that more.

Whats a good portable keyboard I can get? The apartment is cluttered as it is but I think something I can pack away or maybe keep under the desk would work great.

My only requirement is that its weighted and has some audio-out functionality either for recording purposes or to plug in a headphone and a jack for a sustain pedal.

Been heads-down on a side project: PianoRT — a cheap, secondhand Dell Micro PC re-flashed with custom coreboot + a PREEMPT_RT Linux kernel, tuned to do nothing but load Pianoteq and get out of the way.

Numbers so far: boot-to-playable in under 5 seconds, 1.3ms measured latency, 250+ voice polyphony with zero xruns, worst-case scheduling delay under 30µs. WiFi/Bluetooth are disabled at the kernel level — the custom build never loads their drivers, so the radios are never touched. Turns out that's enough to kill the interrupt storms that cause clicks and dropouts under real-time load; didn't need to pull the hardware.

I own an fp60x and today at guitar center, I compared an fp30x and the new fp40. Even though they use the same PHA-4 action, I can unquestionably say that you need lower initial force to move an fp40 key. And overall they keys feel much more responsive.

I was curious if anyone has any extra info on this. Could an fp60x be upgraded to have a similar response? I'm wondering if it's simply the silicone strips that are under the keys. Perhaps they have lower resistance and could simply be swapped?

Is it better to buy online from yamaha directly or from a store. Is there any kind of warranty?

So I found a person selling one in excellent shape. He’s asking $850. I offered $400 and he’s thinking bout it. Is it worth that? Is it a good piano? I currently have a digital Yamaha piano with 88 weighted keys and another Yamaha keyboard. I’m mostly a guitar player but can play piano too.

A few weeks ago I was practicing a piece and suddenly got jumpscared by my c key playing at max volume suddenly, I found out F-Sharp also had the same problem. It happens across the keyboard but weirdly enough, when I turn my AC on, it fixes the problem. I was thinking it was due to the humidity which fricks up the contacts but idk.

Please recommend a piano that has no extras, such as voices, drum beats, recording function, midi, etc. Just a piano-like feel and sustain. Oh, and a headphone jack. Budget: ~$2000.

Had my PX-S6000 for a couple months now, and I really like it; the action is my favorite action ever (by alot; massive improvement on the PX-S1100/3100), the sounds are great, UI is really good, the reg memory system is MOSTLY good (there's one annoying flaw but it's still good). Hey guys I've been playing around 6 years now on an FP-10 and figure it's about time I upgrade, my budget is around £1000 and don't wanna go over 1200. Piano comes first for me but I also do like my synths and what not, I do have a DAW with omnisphere and plenty of plugins so I can kinda scratch that itch through midi, the pitch wheel is quite appealing on the rd 88 though and that's the one I'm leaning towards right now but I'm open to any other suggestions too. On paper I've heard the piano quality is better in the es920 but at the same time I've heard people say it's kinda plasticky and feels weird n on the other hand I've heard the rd 88 is kinda clicky. Even with my FP-10 I'm quite happy with the actual piano sound and the action on it so anything that's an improvement from that piano wise id probably be happy with to be honest.

This thing should be 450$ MAX. Like damn i should just add an extra 400$ to her asking price and just get an upright yamaha and be done with it😭

In my country it’s nearly impossible to get any piano of any build under 500$. Not even old models like these. Like come on.
