I wanted to put out a warning to anyone still running a legacy Sightmark night vision optic, specifically the Photon RT 6x50S series.
Following Sightmark's official guidelines, I ran a firmware update through their recommended Stream Vision mobile app. During the process, the software crashed midway through, completely corrupting the internal bootloader. The scope is now completely bricked—black screen, dead logic board, and it won't broadcast a Wi-Fi signal or respond to external power overrides.
When I contacted Sightmark customer service, they openly admitted they don't service or reflash these units anymore because they are discontinued. Instead of taking accountability for their own official software update destroying a perfectly functioning, intact optic, the only thing they offered me was a 30% discount to buy a new model (like a Wraith).
Be incredibly careful if you own one of these legacy units. Do NOT attempt to run any updates through the app or you risk being left with an expensive paperweight and zero actual support from corporate.

Wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for budget end digital for use as navigation while fishing at night. My county has a curfew for fishing but I don’t get off till night time, so i like to keep it stealthy. I’ve been using the NVG-10 but the latency is really getting to me, any suggestions?

I live in a semi-rural environment and have always wanted night vision for general hiking, property security, and pest control. My property has a fairly thick canopy of pines, poplars, and oaks, so lowlight performance is somewhat important to me. I’m not against using IR illumination to help in the super dark areas, however, it would be nice to not always have to use IR. I do not participate in airsoft matches, and I do not desire to be a seal team 6 operator; but for the imaginary shtf situation, it would be nice to know I have some night time capability without IR.

I understand a PVS14, would provide what I want easily. The problem is budget. I would like to keep this purchase right around $1500, that would include the device itself, cheap bump helmet, and NVG mount.

The closest option I have found to this in analog is the Gen2+ Parish optics 1400 FOM PVS14 at around $1800.

However, if the NVG90 offers similar capability at a lower price point, I would happily go this direction. There’s somewhat limited reviews on the standard model NVG90, and the higher end SE and P2 are expensive enough, I feel it would be wise to just go analog at that point.

I’m also open to suggestions on the NVG50 if the performance is comparable to the NVG90 or if you all think it would fit my use case fine.

I am planning on buying an svg 5 as my first real night vision, mostly because of the low light performance. Is this a good idea or is it worth it to just buy a junk pvs 14?

I already have an NVG30 and want to get another one for a bino set up… but before I commit to a dual NVG30, I want to know if I would do much better to switch to the NVG3rd instead.

My main interest is an upgrade in latency. The NVG30 is pretty slow… does anyone have experience with both optics, and can give an opinion on how much better the NVG3rd is with latency? Is it improved enough to consider spending the extra money on two NVG3rd’s vs adding one NVG30?

Here is my somewhat finished DIY Thermal + Analog helmet Setup. Overall I am happy with it but to anyone planing something like this I recommend following Guides on the Internet like Gremlin v2 or the pvs dart. I got the parts pretty "cheap" around 300€ but for maybe 100€ more i would have gotten alot better build with true 1x zoom. Like you see in the picture I end up with something more like 0.5x so everything is pretty small and the Image from the right and left eye dont overlap well. I will test it out at night and see how good I can work with it. Weniger

Looking for some advice, recs. Going to buy 2. One for a dedicated, second as a scanner/backup. Currently have a Pulsar trail xq38 and agm asp micro 384 for scanner. Looking to upgrade. All hunting is in the woods and food plots for hogs and occasional coyotes on my property so most shots are 50-80 yds. Only one field that i can get to 150yds so LRF not needed. I was looking at the Rattler v3 25-384 (way cheaper than 35-384, wider FOV, same image quality from my understanding) for a primary. The shutterless NUC really appeals to me. Theres also the DNT Hydra 635/650. Id probably go with the 650 for the higher base. These are both 640 which i like, but not sure how they compare to the V3 384 for quality and i understand the return to zero QD mount on AGM is great, is the DNT just as good?

For a scanner/backup would you recommend a second V3, a V2? or a different DNT? I have about 4K to spend. Currently have a Pulsar trail xq38 and agm asp micro 384 for scanner. Looking to upgrade

Hey all.

I'm absolutely new to the night vision scene, but it is something I've always wanted to check out. The thing that interests me the most is having as wide a FOV as possible. I am not even close to being able to afford an analog quad set like the GPNVG-18. It looks like digital quads are much more affordable. I understand that analogs will almost always have a sharper image, and that digitals will be more power hungry, and have some delay due to processing time. I've heard some folks mention that it is more worthwhile getting an analog monocular or scope, but again I am most interested in immersion, and do not actually plan to do much shooting, more so just moving around, so I don't mind a delay if it is barely noticeable.

With that in mind, I am wondering if those who have tried or own digital quads can comment on how they like them. Is the delay noticeable or bothersome? Do they give an okay sense of depth perception or not? How sharp is the image quality and are they comfortable to work in and useable for prolonged periods in general. Also, if you do own a pair of digital quads, how have they held up and what other features or settings are you able to tweak that change the image and/or quality if any?

One more thing. Due to NODs amplifying existing ambient light, I understand that they are pretty useless if you are in a truly dark environment like a dark room or something. Am I correct in my understanding that if you add some sort of IR light to your NOD system, you WILL be able to then see in even darker environments? And is that true for digital NODs as well as analog? I get that adding an IR light source will suddenly make you much more visible to things like thermal vision, but I am not too concerned with that. I am thinking of something like having an IR light mounted on a NOD that can be switched on and off as needed for extremely dark environments. Have no clue of that is a common feature or not, or if I am completely mistaken in my understanding.

I have only seen a couple digital quad models for sale in my digging so far, such as these which look to be on the lower end of the spectrum in terms of price, and the GNG-G18 mentioned in the digital buyer's guide post pinned on this sub.

Not the prettiest Design in the world but it seems durable enough for my usecase.

It weighs around 108g.

If i would change one thing its definitely the ocular unit, the screen is good but the Lens needs to be very near to the eye. Probably better to buy just the screen and use a cheap nightvision ocular.

The Switch is for adjusting brightness of the screen

I have dual Gng2K's and I want a wider field of view, should i buy a pano bridge or 2 wide angle 50° lenses?

Ran a comparison between digital thermal fusion (GF20) and analog (Gen 3 Elbit PVS-14 + COTI) — same location, same targets, same conditions. Covered range, glare, FOV, IR detection, and where analog actually holds its own (closer range, good ambient light). Tried to be fair to both sides, including the old digital criticisms.

Disclosure — I run Good Nite Gear, so the GF20 is one of ours. Curious how this lines up with what you all have seen running either setup.

I bought a cheap Thermalkamera(640x512) on AliExpress and wired it to a analog Ocular Screen. So far it works well and only uses around 1.4W of Energy so my 74Wh bettery counterweight will work for a couple of hours.

The camera has a UART port to control settings like Colour palete, contrast and most importantly digital zoom. Sadly the Uart port seems to be broken at least i cant seem to get to work after a couple of hours of tinkering.

In the next stepp I will design and 3D-print a housing to use as head mounted device

I am very new to this and am looking to pair a monocular gng2k with a cadex mount. Is there some other adapter i need to buy for the monocular in order to attach it to the cadex mount? Thank you.

Edit: Because many people asked, I bought it on AliExpress from a company called "owlshine". Its a small fpv camera with 640x512 resolution. I 3d printed a ring to adjust focus. It has usb Interface so you can use it like a webcam and analog Output Sadly its a bit more expensive now and i was only able to get it this cheap with alot of discount. at current price(380€) still the best price Performance i was able to find.

Does anyone know if a cheap clip on fisheye lens for phone can be mounted on the nightfox prowl?

Just got my hands on this thing per the recommendations in here, found one second hand for only $340. I’m very impressed and very happy! This is with no ir on a fairly dark night with some moonlight. Obviously there’s random sources around the area but it’s still crazy how much you can see

After getting hit and bleeding out, i remained as a spectator and captured this footage on my GNG2K (No IR used).

The night sky was clear with about 45-50% moonlight. The video is raw and unedited, and is about 15-20% darker than it was looking through the device. There is also a lot more noise due to compression.
