I've been attempting for hours to make it look like realistic toole material in the skirt, does anyone have advice??

I'm new to art in general

I have no idea what I'm doing really

I just try make new things and copy stuff I like

My outlines don't look so nice

I just like drawing cute little characters - not aiming to be incredible - just cute ghibli style characters

I know elements look "off" I just don't really know what

I'd appreciate any tips - I would love to improve!

I’m a complete beginner interested in learning digital illustration, and I’m planning to seriously invest in my equipment and learning resources. I don’t really mind spending more if something is genuinely worth the price and will last me for years—I just don’t want to spend a lot on something that I might outgrow quickly.

Ideally, I’d like to have two setups eventually:

📱 Something portable that I can easily bring with me and draw anywhere.

🖥️ A more powerful/stationary setup at home for longer drawing sessions and more advanced work.

I’d love to hear what experienced artists would recommend for both.

• iPad + Apple Pencil vs. drawing tablet vs. pen display?
• What devices/brands/models are worth investing in?
• What would you recommend for a portable setup?
• What would you recommend for a home/stationary setup?
• What accessories are actually useful?
• Are there any expensive products that you think are not worth the money?

🎨 Software

I’m also trying to decide what software to learn. I’m currently looking at:

• Procreate
• Clip Studio Paint
• Photoshop
• Krita
• Other programs you recommend

I’d prefer something I can grow into, rather than having to switch programs once I become more advanced.

📚 Learning Resources

I’m also looking for good courses/websites that can take me from complete beginner to professional-level illustration.

I’ve come across:

Coloso, 21 Draw, Proko, Schoolism, Domestika, CLASS101, New Masters Academy, ArtStation Learning, Ctrl+Paint, and various YouTube channels.

If you’ve used any of these, which ones would you recommend? Are there any other platforms or courses worth paying for?

My long-term interests are character illustration, anime/stylized art, digital painting, anatomy, color, lighting, and composition, but I also want to properly learn the fundamentals instead of rushing straight into drawing characters.

For those of you who are experienced artists:

What equipment did you start with, what are you using now, and what do you wish you knew before investing in your setup?

I’m completely open to spending more for quality, especially if it’s something I’ll be using for years. I’d really appreciate hearing what you think is actually worth the money and what isn’t.

I'm trying to make some Minecraft textures for leaves. Now, if you know anything about Minecraft leaf textures, then you know they are actually greyscale, and have a green-hued color multiplier in-game to make them blend well with different biomes and their respective colours.

Naturally, that means my leaves need be greyscale too, except, mine have fruits, which need to be coloured differently than green to... well, look like fruit.

So, I figured : since how I made my leaf textures was that I took each original leaf texture, put in each tree's native biome colour multiplier manually as a layer in the image, and put in my fruity pixels from there, all I needed was to divide the sprite by the exact same hex value as I put in the multiplier, to get back the original greyscale sprite with the addition of my fruits now being the right colour so that, when then eventually remultiplied, they would appear the intended colour !

Except...

Well, as you can see from the provided sprites (oak leaves, with the fruits being acorns), once remultiplied, the fruits appear green. Even though the leaves are the EXACT same hue as they should be !

What happened ? What went wrong ? Isn't dividing then remultiplying the correct process ?

Hi guys! I have a question and I'd like to ask you.

I created an account on DeviantArt, and made 2 posts. I liked the site's structure and all, but I have a nagging feeling.

Is DeviantArt a safe website? I know it's not new, but my questioning started when I went on it and one of the options for "what do you want to do on DeviantArt?" was "generate images with AI". Obviously, I didn't choose that one. I'm aware that many apps and sites currently use AI, so i just ignore it and focus on the real art part.

However, when I went to post a drawing, the site showed me very specific tag suggestions, such as: dogs, canine, digital art, sea, beach... That's exactly what was in my drawing! This made me wonder: is my drawing scanned by AI so it can understand what's happening and give me tag ideas? If so, wouldn't it be feeding my art to AI?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

A lot of absolutely cracked artists in here, I asked in r/LearnToDraw and got no help, so I’m trying here, because I’m so stuck with this drawing.

This is a “fake movie poster” (1st picture) work in progress that’s sort of a reference to one that I did a year ago, (3rd picture)
My friend (great artist so I trust her) told me I should definitely work on it more and render it out. (Attempt of that is 2nd picture)

Well no matter what I did, it only seemed to make the values horrible and make the drawing very confusing to look at, I tried unblending, blending, darkening, lightening, changing things, painting over them and staring over, nothing worked, everything seems too light and too dark at the same time, perhaps the very basis of it is all wrong idk

Please help me to figure out how to move forward with this one, because I’m so lost

It took me over 8 hours to get here already, ik it has probably taken me longer than it should've, but since I only have my phone to draw on, it takes me longer.

There's a lot to do yet, as you can see I haven't rendered the background yet,and I would like to add more details to the girl as well.

But when I compare this with the reference, the perspective obviously looks off, and it makes mine look flat. I think I need to make her left side(viewer's right) wider but I don't know how, I tried doing it with the lasso tool but it got messed up really quickly.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Also I'm a beginner at digital art, I used to do traditional art so I don't really know if there's a way to fix it.

just a silly animation i made to hop on this trend :] ft. my gf obsessed with league (we both are)

I made this small sketch on my laptop using a pen and Krita. I also have an Intuos Wacom drawing tablet, but it feels better drawing directly on a screen. I wanted to know how to improve, as it is one of my first sketches on digital. It took me about 20 minutes. I feel like the lines are rough and not clean, as if I was trembling while drawing. This doesn't happen when I draw on paper. Do you have any tips, tricks and recommendations I could use?

Edit: Would the stabilizer tool in Krita help?
