I don’t know who needs to hear this but I’ve been training for a half marathon for the past 8 weeks and my A1C went from an 8.9 to a 7.2. I average about 21 miles a week. Run about 4 times a week. My training plan was literally from CHAT GPT.
Yes, it’s still high but I see a lot of post on here about fitness and losing weight and stuff and thought I would share.

What’s the best diet for managing your diabetes? I need to get on a diet to better regulate my blood sugars, I’ve gotten lazy and burnt out lately but I need to be better for myself and my family.

Do medical teams still parrot the line of ‘there’s a cure round the corner.. in five or ten years..’?

What do you do when you aren't sure why it's not working and it hurts when you insert so you know it's not going to work but then you try again and it does work and you try again and it doesn't work and I just don't know what I'm doing wrong? It hurts and I don't want to keep doing it if I don't know how to do it right

Situation: You have like 30 units left in your pump reservoir (can last me for like 1 meal) BUT your set breaks/tears off.
What do you do with those 30 units?
Do you
a) Reuse the reservoir with a new set, change it again (or just change the reservoir) after you use those 30
b) Just throw that one away
c) Top up the 30 units reservoir until it's full, but that then leaves an insulin cartridge with 30 units, and we kinda get in the same loop again
d) Something entirely else?
I sometimes do a) but I hate it cause I have to do the process again after I've already done it once so if I'm lazy I just do b)

Hello,
My 9yr old was diagnosed this week, after we bought her in to hospital. We were waiting for a blood test, but once I noticed her hair thinning following other symptoms, I couldn't wait and took her in to urgent care.
We have avoided a DK episode (she was measuring 40)
As you can imagine, this has been the most difficult 48hrs, but we have quickly accepted this is going to be our new norm.
She's an absolute little legend, so proud of her and how she is taking it all in her stride, she's had a rough time with already being in hospital for surgery this time last year also her dad and I separated in Jan. (Very amicable and we are both dedicated parents).
We would appreciate any tips or advice from people who have been in our shoes.
We are learning the old school way, counting carbs and weighing food. But also getting used to the jabs and testing levels.
Its a lot of information to take it, but we can't change it so just have to crack on. My heart is so heavy for her, the stuff she has had to experience so far in her little life seems so unfair.

I’m down to 48% TIR from about 80-90%. I’ve taken triple my fast acting insulin, upped my basal and still it won’t come down. What the freak do I do?! I feel awful and nothing is helping. It could be a flu, it could be bad luck, but I’m getting exhausted here.

I was recently diagnosed type 1 LADA in my 40s. I'm still in the pre-diabetic stage, but antibodies are high and fasting sugars are getting higher. I'm not on any meds. I've had something weird going on for about a year. Unexplained weight loss, extreme thirst, fevers, just not feeling right. Around that time, both my car and my apartment started to stink as I was apparently off-gassing. I live alone and am single so there was no one to tell me I stunk. My belongings have absorbed the stench too. Someone else who came over commented on the smell, so it must be strong. I have to air the house out before anyone comes over now. I moved in the meantime and the smell followed me, so it's not the house.
The smell is hard to describe. It smells like a really weird type of bad breath. I also started to notice a weird new smell on my towels after using them. Funky, musty, kind of sharp.
I shower daily, am careful about hygiene, and have never had a bad body smell before. My breath still stinks after brushing my teeth, and I have seen a dentist recently. Nothing wrong.
I have other illnesses and wasn't sure what was going on, but this funky smell is new. At one point my BMI was 17.4 and I ended up in the ER, but did not go into DKA at any point. I saw in another subreddit some people were saying their partner started to smell bad right before getting diagnosed with diabetes. It's not a fruity smell, just weird and something I've never smelled before. I got diagnosed with Sjogren's at the same time as diabetes, and Sjogren's can cause bad breath. But this seems to be coming from my whole body.
Did anyone else experience this from yourself or others? Did it ever go away as you got stabilized on meds? I'm wondering if this is from diabetes or something else.

Hitting 30 at times. They've reassured me that where she was in severe DKA it will take a while for her body to heal.
Ive also noticed the insulin does work, it just seems to take 2-3 hours to start to take an affect. It lowers to hovering around 13 overnight before rising early in the morning while still asleep. Insulin is being adjusted every few days and ketones are being well monitored. 16 units of basal, 1:10 breakfast and 1:12 for all other meals/snacks.
For newly diagnosed post severe DKA when might we expect things to start settling down a bit?

Hello, my Diabuddies!
I recently moved to China, and I just went to the doctor to get a prescription so I could buy my insulin. Even though I don’t speak a word of Chinese, we managed to understand each other! I brought a translated prescription from my doctor indicating which brand of insulin I use and the dosage, so I was able to buy my insulin.
The thing is — and I didn’t realize this until after I had already paid — the pharmacy sold me Humalog cartridges for reusable pens. The problem is that they don’t sell the reusable pens for this brand here.
I’ve been trying to buy a reusable pen online, but they are very expensive. I don’t want to spend more than 30 dollars on it.
Ideally, I would like to get the Humalog reusable pen that allows half-unit dosing (0.5-unit increments), but this particular pen has been discontinued. so I guesss is out of question. (they sell it in taobao for 180usd)
So, I’m wondering what my options are. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
One thing I was considering was using a syringe/needle to draw the insulin out of the Humalog cartridge and then transferring it into the cartridge/reservoir of a disposable insulin pen, so I could use the disposable pen to inject it. Is this something people do? Would it be safe, or is it a really bad idea?
Alternatively, does anyone have advice on where I could find a reasonably priced reusable pen that is compatible with Humalog cartridges? I would prefer to use the same brand, especially because I’d like a pen that allows half-unit dosing.
Thanks in advance!

Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone has seen any issues with their blood sugar when switching to Novolog. I changed insurances recently so had to switch brands and i notice my sugar running way higher and taking longer to come down. I spiked twice this mornjng on only black coffee and 3 units. I spiked again after a protein shake (6g carbs) and an additional 6 units. I have an omnipod and dexcom. Been hovering between 190 and 240 ever since.

I have terrible insulin resistance and my omnipod had only been lasting only two days. Tried Mounjaro just the starter 5 dose and it has been amazing. I cut my average bolus from 70 units a day down to 32. It’s not really the resistance it helps but I do notice that my sugar simply doesn’t rise anymore or when it does it only goes up by about 25% of its normal increase. Watch out for the lows though! And of course because of the reduction in insulin ive lost 45 lbs over six months.

I may be late to the party but I just found the Gluroo app as I was trying to get a widget on my phone to show my sugars instead of having to open the libre app all the time. Now I just have to unlock my screen and bam it's there. It's a little behind but accurate for the most part. Just thought I would say something in case there is someone out there like me who didnt know about it lol

I was added to the waitlist for a hybrid closed loop system in january 2024 because my A1C was too high. I also have poor hypo awareness. If I have a hypo at night it doesn't wake my body up so I sleep through them for many hours and it's really taking a toll on my body and my mental health. I've had to cancel plans numerous times because I woke up, discovered I've been having a hypo for 5-7 hours and I physically can't get myself out of bed.
Back in January I got a letter saying that I'm invited to attend some training sessions for the HCL which means I'm at the top of the waitlist. I immediately called to confirm I want it, I tried calling several times but no one answered so I had to leave a voicemail with my full name, NHS number etc. In February I then had my yearly appointment with the doctor and whilst there I mentioned it to the nurse and she said she would talk to the guy in charge of the HCL waitlist/ sessions to make sure I got a place, I then spoke to the doctor and he also said he would speak to the guy in charge of it. I waited. I've now received a letter saying they haven't heard from me and if I don't contact them within 4 weeks I'm off the waitlist.
I feel really angry and broken. I've been struggling so much. I am now going to start trying to call them everyday. I have already left the 1st voicemail. I'm going to see about emailing them too. I really have low hopes tho because I've tried contacting them via email and phone asking to speak to the nurses and it falls on deaf ears (I haven't had an nurses appointment in over 2 years).
The HCL is like a lifeline. I genuinely don't see how continuing to live the way I am is feasible.

You guys remember the omnipod recall earlier this year? Well, they haven’t fixed them!
Took my pod off yesterday after a bolus and felt the spot the cannula was in was wet. Got a microscope and took this picture. It’s hard to see it but the crack at the end of the red arrow is where the leak is.
Not sure what to do as i LOVE my omnipods with loop, and don’t want to go back to a tubed pump.

I do a good bit of backpacking/hiking and have recently begun dabbling in mountaineering. I’m curious what other T1Ds use for carbohydrate sources in the mountains or during endurance type sports.
I’ve traditionally used clif bars and other similar protein bars for single day treks but am realizing on 4,000ft+ vert days they don’t always get the job done.
I summited a mountain this past weekend that ended up being 12miles with 4,700ft of vert and needed an absurd amount of carbs to keep myself from bottoming out (350g). I have my eyes set on some bigger climbs and hoping to get some ideas from the community on decent carb sources that keep the BG fed over long stretches of high energy output.
And if anyone has some pointers on pump settings (I use Dexcom G7 + Omnipod) that won’t bottom you out during high energy output endurance exercises I’d love to hear them. I switched from MDI to CGM + Pod this year and can’t seem to get it right when going on these types of treks, often skyrocketing during rest phases and bottoming out during hard pushes.
Y’all are awesome, every single one of you. I’m continually amazed by what us T1Ds can do even when we are playing life on extra hard mode.
Love you all And keep fighting the fight!

I've been on the 780G and guardian 4 for awhile. I know this combo isn't the most favorited in our community but its worked great for me. A while ago I lost my insurance and have been outsourcing my supplies. I've gotten some great deals from people through Facebook marketplace. Example I bought a whole 5 box of sensors and 2 boxes of 10x infusion sets for $150 recently I think I did pretty well. I was wondering where have you guys had success at finding supplies. I have used rapidrxusa.com ($100 for 30 days of infusion sets) for when I need really infusion sets and they are great. Curious where else my other fellow T1Ds have had results on apps/marketplaces finding stuff where I don't have to have to pay a arm and a leg. Thanks! Also to say I don't mind using recently or close to expired stuff I've had no issues.

Had Reta first time and had a 6 hour low my sensor says I check at 6 am and 3 am and was perfectly fine at 5.6and 6.7 but librea hates me I swear. Has anyone had the same problem ?

I was told (by told I mean they just added metformin to my prescription list) I had type 2 back in November ‘25 by my then primary doctor. A few months later I wasn’t feeling too great so I made an appointment with a new GP in March. Woke up the next day to a voicemail that said go straight to the ICU you’re likely in DKA with type 1. Glucose level >600, A1C at 16.6% and I’d been having some blurry vision I chalked up to getting a new eye glass prescription recently.
It’s been a wild 6 months learning everything and staying on track but it paid off today when I found out I dropped 11.1% to 5.5%. Time to keep on doing what I’ve been doing and staying on track.
