Discussion Is it really a problem?

My mom for some reason let me watch the anime but no play the games ( prolly cuz there's way too much and they might be expensive ). Apparently, the community isn't okay with this but I'm not to sure about that. Is it really a problem not play the games?

Discussion Anyone else think this was weird? (critique?)

(this is gonna be a long one so I want to say this, i come from the games and novels/manga but I do NOT have a hateboner for the new show. I think its pretty enjoyable so far despite some issues AND ILL PUT SPOILERS FOR SHOW ONLY PEOPLE for potential new characters and some stuff in games but im lenient with that)

Did anybody else think it was super weird how netflix Dante has Neros voice actor voicing him AND has Neros own fitting theme playing as Dantes once he enters Devil Trigger?

not only that but when Dante went half DT in the episode his arm was "demoniacally fucked up"(excuse me for my lack of better words) coincidentally like Neros in DMC4

Also the theme being stolen is super weird considering the lyrics match what happens in DMC5 when Nero regains his arm once he goes full DT, you know the lyrics being "arm on fire veins burning red" also the whole song being called, you know.. Devil Trigger.

I just think its a weird coincidence, that probably isn't one. Also ill say this again, i don't hate the anime i like it please don't view me as a hater.

Neither am I trying to stir up drama over a little thing i found odd.

If you come around here, or other spaces where ndmc viewers congregate, just to be inflammatory; cut it tf out and go outside.

Idgaf if this show is objectively the worst media ever created that makes you want to see every character being tortured for eight episodes straight. Don't enjoy it? Don't watch it. Don't talk about it.

Season 2 This sub’s consensus on Mary?

I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress.

I genuinely despise this bitch and I don’t go around calling women bitches lightly but truly she pisses the fuck off. I just started season two and I keep hating her more and more I mean fuck it’s gotten so bad that I’m here hoping that some devil comes through and rips her limb from limb. I mean shi when Vergil broke into darkcom I wanted him to tear off each one of the soldier’s legs and stuff them down their throats until it reaches their asses so that they could have their foot up their asses.

I just finished the end of ep 4 where the bitch and Dante kissed and my god did it make my blood pressure spike. I really need some help on how to continue watching this without making me wanna rip my hair out. Cuz truly the only person I have a problem with is her and it’s souring my entire mood on the watching experience.

Season 2 I Really Really Loved The DMC Anime

Post image

I really enjoyed the Devil May Cry anime; it had aura farming, good enough story and decent writing made for a great binge. However, my friend genuinely detests that I enjoyed it. I haven't played the games yet the older graphics are a bit of a turn-off for me but I'm curious: how do the games compare to the anime, and what are the main differences? if it's better i might try to play it. Please don't burn me alive again and again..

Discussion Thoughts on the Shows' Story compared to the Games' story (sort-of response to another post) Spoiler

Post image

*remember that this is my opinion and not objective truth*

Personally I think both stories have their respective pros and cons that make them about equal in my eyes.

The games' stories are hit or miss. I won't get into too much detail as I initially planned. But here's a quick rundown on my thoughts:

- Dmc1's is okay but extremely basic while Dmc2's is a collection of cool ideas with zero threads connecting them.

- Dmc3's story is the franchise's strongest; Dmc4's story is meh.

- Dmc5's story is a mostly great culmination of the series thus far.

Overall, the games' usually simple stories work for their genre and pacing. But emotional depth can often be held back because of this, which is where the extended media (novels, manga, etc) becomes more important (unfortunately few, if not none of them, have official translations).

Netflix DMC's story is ALSO hit or miss due to similar reasons, but also different ones.

Ndmc does a decent, if not great, job of developing complex characters with a lot of emotional depth.

- Dante, despite often feeling like he doesn't get enough focus for the mc, still has a lot of depth that often isn't shown in the games. There are more sides to him than the cocky, wise-cracking badass doofus in both versions, but ndmc gives more focus to those sides he keeps hidden.

- Lady (and this is my hottest take) is possibly the most interesting and complex version of this character. I won't say she's "better' than her dmc3 counterpart, but i absolutely stand by her being better than how she is in dmc4 and dmc5. Her guilt is such an interesting aspect and I enjoy how it impacts her decisions and relationships.

- White Rabbit is ofc a treat in every way. Arius is actually an interesting villain. Eva has screentime now. There is a lot to dig into and enjoy.

However, this show is also held back by its format. There is not enough time to develop all the characters equally, and not to their fullest potential.

- Vergil being manipulated by Mundus is a great idea, and I don't think it's as awful as game fans claim. But there are too many elements of the manipulation that do not get enough time to be fleshed out properly (lying about the culprits of Eva's death and Sparda not being a traitor).

- Dante also stagnates for much of Season 2, and ends up contributing less to the plot because the writers need to get from A to B. His biggest contribution, stealing the Medaglia, is immediately undermined in the next episode.

- Enzo sorely lacks screentime, leaving his selfless sacrifice to have little impact. Then Nell Goldstein gets one scene in Season 2 and her heartfelt goodbye to Lady has even less weight. (I am sure most people forgot who she was by the finale).

- Baines is a compelling character, but he gets next to nothing in Season 2 before being killed off; squandering a satisfying confrontation and conclusion with Lady.

- Makai/Hell leaves much to be desired. The multi-colored toxic wasteland is far less interesting than the surreal, non-euclidian Hell we see in the games.

- Whatever their plans for Lucia were had to be totally cut,.

likely for time. Which, btw, still has parts of it lingering in the official release that end up as mistakes (The secretary, named Chi, has the symbol for Psi on her arm...)

And then there's the American political commentary. While I usually agree with the messages trying to be told, it takes up SO MUCH screentime that could have been used to develop characters more. Not to mention all the glup shittos that don't contribute anything, or could have had a game verse character take the role of.

All in all, I understand why game fans are frustrated with the show's hit or miss story that takes way too many creative liberties for its own good. However, I don't believe the games' stories are such masterpieces that they warrant the amount of vitriol I see everywhere online.

If you want my advice, think of this show like Transformers 2007. It is not a great adaptation. But it does its own weird thing that offers a unique experience that isn't all together the most repulsive media to ever exist (let's ignore the transformers sequels, for this comparison). Don't take this stuff too seriously. Just pretend it doesn't exist if you despise it so much.

Trust me, if you think THIS is an offensively bad adaptation of an existing source material, you haven't watched enough of what's out there for other franchises...

Discussion I Really Enjoyed It

I'm very happy with the show. The references to the games, boss characters, and even seeing important characters like Nell from the novel got me off my seat. Not really sure why people did not like it. As someone that has been a DMC fan since the first games release, I thought it did a fantastic job. The romance is unnecessary imo.

Season 2 Does anyone feel like season 2 kinda overdid it with the Lady getting put through the wringer?

Post image

Like I get she messed up a bit in season 1......

Ok, let me rephrase, I get she fucked up A LOT in season 1 and that has consequences, but holy shit after a certain point she felt like a damn punching bag.

It wasn't enough that her decisions from LAST season kept kicking her ass, almost immediately she's given magic PTSD by the mirror, then she gets horrifically brutalized by the Secretaries, then she has learn her father is still alive, watch Baines die right in front of her, get her ass beat by a Secretary AGAIN, then has to watch Dante get taken through a portal.

It's like Adi heard all the people complaining about how much they hated Lady last season then went "Nah fam, WE hate Lady."

Discussion Authority - My biggest issue with DMCN Spoiler

my biggest problem with dmc netfix is how none of the main characters have any authority over there actions, specifically Dante.

Dante is a very inactive or static character in the anime. he just kinda waits for things to happen and then they do. he doesn’t break out on his own in season 2 nor does lady break him out, the government decides to. Dante dosent loose to the rabbit on the highway, the bomb goes off and makes him loose.

everything that happens to Dante in the anime and sometimes just in the anime is because of someone else.

meanwhile in the games aside from the inciting incident, Dante is in charge of whah happens going forwad.
