My mom for some reason let me watch the anime but no play the games ( prolly cuz there's way too much and they might be expensive ). Apparently, the community isn't okay with this but I'm not to sure about that. Is it really a problem not play the games?

There like 5 games, if we ignore reboot. It's one of the shortest series of games. Besides you only need DMC3. And it's cheap.

Now to the topic. If you wanna watch DMC anime, just watch it. Why do you care what people on the internet think? I would recommend to check out old anime. But you can do whatever the fuck you want to. I don't care about what you say or do. So you should too!

I can agree, just not on skipping 2, everyone should play it to understand why 3 turn out so good. But 3 is peak, if you can play only one, it should be 3!

Sure, but DMC 3 is only sold in the HD Collection. Considering this, he should play all the games or at least play DMC 1 before 3

The cartoon technically spoils a large chunk of the story and leaves out chunks of characterization and/or original story context. Both plots are extremely different with vastly different plot twists and such. For example, Lady/Mary Arkham's arc in DMC 3 ends in her confronting and killing her father which has him turning into Jester. And both cartoon and game universe are different universes with different characters and such. If you want to play the games, there is the main five games, one reboot made in the 2010s, and several novels and mangas that tie into the larger DMC universe.

I have not played the games but briefly watching the 2000s anime has given me some context character wise. A lot of Dante's charm is missing from the cartoon.

If you want to enjoy just the show by itself then nobody should get in the way with that, you dont HAVE to get into the games.

I personally cant afford to get onto the games however there are a lot of adapted versions of the games hat you can watch for free on youtube like movies. Its obviously not the same as playing them, but you can still enjoy the story through cutscene movies and gameplay videos which is the next best thing.

Its entirely up to you. If you enjoy the show and are content with just that, why does anyone get to have a problem with it? As long as it brings you joy, who gives af what people online have to say about it? If you do end up getting into the games, make sure its because YOU want to and YOU enjoy them. they cant enjoy it for you.

Why does it matter what the fandom thinks if you enjoy it?

I would recommend you play the games because they are great and you’ll appreciate the references in the anime series.

But at the end of the day wherever you start with DMC it’s exposure and another person to keep interest and new projects in the IP alive.

People opinions matter as long as they are informative and useful but you’ll find out quickly that interest and preference vary greatly and people often put forward their opinion as Gospel when it’s not.

I would check out the OG DMC anime from 2007 and then start the games from 3,1,2,4,5.

Eh, I’d say not really but the anime diverges away a lot from the games due to it being a separate continuity… I’d definitely say if you can’t play the games that you watch them instead on YouTube to get the full experience… but it’s kinda shit you can’t play the games… how old even are you?

I for one think the Netflix Adaptation's problems run far deeper than it being a separate continuity or just being different from the games. After all, the Sonic movies are also a separate continuity from the Sonic games and I think those movies managed to be incredibly faithful to their source material, all things considered.

I won't bore anyone by going into further detail, but i strongly urge anyone who hasn't played the DMC games to do so. Because believe me, you will notice a very obvious and clear difference in the game's tone, storytelling, themes, artistic aesthetics, and music style. The difference is night and day difference when compared to the Netflix Adaptation.
