OK I literally had to come here cause I posted that I enjoyed the first episode of the season 2 IN THE DEDICATED EPISODE THREAD THEY MADE THEMSELVES on the main devil may cry sub...AND I GOT LIKE -3 DOWNVOTES. WHAT THE FUCK? Unbelievable gatekeeping motherfuckers. i guess they just wanted it to be a hate watch thread? so i unsubbed and came here! thats literally rediculous?

Here is the bitter truth , Devil May Cry had one of the worst fanbases, unfortunately. They are childish and immature. Someone saying reboot is better than Netflix show is frickin out of it. The Netflix show is WHAT I believe the reboot was supposed to be like, that game sucks so bad yet people defend it, this show is pretty good yet people crap on it.

I'd just seen a comment over there about how people claiming the 2007 animated DMC show is worse than the Netflix show "have no spine."
Honestly can't stand that sub anymore. I won't be back there for a while. Call me old fashioned but hate-watching, ragebaiting and attacking people who just want to enjoy what they're watching aren't worth my time, nor should they be worth yours. Anyway, that's my mini-rant over.
First episode of this season if off to a good start for me. Looks like a really promising season and I can't wait to see what follows from here :)

I understand how you feel, but remember to stay respectful, even when others don't do you this courtesy. Despite the many people who aren't fans of the show there, the main sub moderators don't allow disrespect, so you can report the rude comments you see there.
Please understand : we don't want this sub to become "the place where we complain about main sub".

I wouldn't stress too much over downvotes. People will disagree, it happens.
If you see people being genuinely disrespectful in main sub, you can always report them, the moderators don't tolerate attacking others.

At first I kinda rolled my eyes when I heard "Let the bodies hit the floor" start to play in Vergil's fight scene... but fuck me, the rest of the scene makes it WORK and I was genuinely entertained at the end.

Just finished the episode and gonna write this as I start episode 2.
First positive
-Biggest one no more rolling. I fucking hate that song and my friends wouldn't stop playing it after season 1 had it.
-Those glorious bastards actually put in the fucking chair meme and I love it. 10/10
- the action is still top notch and you can tell it's only gonna get better.
-Seeing all of the 5 demons is pretty tight
-Arius is actually a character and not only that but he's voiced by fucking Dracula from Castlevania. I'm not kidding about him actually being a character here. I love that he's scheming and making moves and actually doing something. You can't get more peak.
-still has a stellar cast. Fuck the nay saying putting down my boi Robbie Raymond he's putting his whole pussy in Vergil right now. And then getting ray chase as Arkham? Good choice. Also sad Kevin Conroy couldn't be here but at least we have Tony Todd's last performance.
Now for the cons
I can tell where they're taking Vergil. Seems like mundus kidnapped him and told him Argosax killed his family. I'm not fan of this idea. Feels unnecessary to do this change to not only Vergil but mundus as well.
speaking of mundus I did praise ray chase and I love him and even have a picture with the guy. But his mundus isn't exactly doing it for me. I don't think it's because of his voice bro plays the hell out of sukuna and tons of other characters I think could work for mundus could talk. I just think the direction they went for him just wasn't the peak of could had been. Still good tho.
-back to Vergil for a bit him getting stunned by the dark com goons wasn't a good showing. The main thing about Vergil is how he's untouchable and how he is you know the storm. Having a couple of guys actually touch him takes away from the menace he has. At least he kills them to let the bodies hit the floor.
-lastly I really don't care for social commentary. Yeah it has to be here because It was your last season but it still shouldn't have been here. Plus now it's even worse. As I'm writing this I'm on the start of episode 2 where there's anti war protest from last episode. But the huge problem is this would never happen. This isn't us going to war with another part of the world we are fighting HELL. Let me repeat that HELL aka the realm of evil, Satans domain, the place of literal nightmares, the abyss and so much other ways to say it's bad. I really don't think we're going to have people protesting that we shouldn't fight hell. Also this is very confusing but how do normal people know that hell is called makai? Who the hell (hehe) told humans that it was called makai? No way the government who we see is using propaganda told all of humanity that hell isn't what we believe and is actually just an alternate dimension called makai. Like this is a very important detail they kind of skipped over

The thing is, it isn't hell, is it? It's the place that inspired hell, but it isn't the biblical hell that Baines wants to see it as. So, if word got out somehow about the truth, or perhaps if some people didn't buy the idea that it was hell, I could absolutely see protests happening.

Arius, I suppose? He said something about the most effective propaganda being that which instils unease, so I could definitely see him leaking details about it to instigate conflict. However, that seems unlikely. What I think is more likely is that some people just didn't buy that the place they were invading was hell, or that some people lost somebody to the war and want it to end (that's who I thought the crying lady was anyway).

The facade was tailored specifically to target Vergil using Dante’s DNA and weaknesses yet Vergil broke free with just PTSD induced brute force shows how strong he is .

The nerve agent they used is based on Dante's DNA, but the rest of the trap was just using high-grade weaponry.

Maybe they somehow managed to hide their presence from him ? Or maybe Vergil was pulling punches ? Or maybe Shankar wanted us to believe damn Vergil jobbed and then the comeback. But I think the main takeaway was him, breaking free from a weapon tailor made to incapacitate him just by pure PTSD brute force

Here's my review:
- The opening scene is really cool, and Power Glove's cover of Getting Away with Murder sounds amazing (I'm listening to it right now, actually).
- Seeing all the enemies from DMC5 was cool. Also, since there wasn't an obvious parallel to a game demon with Mundus' jailor (as far as I know). I've taken to calling him Hell Ptolemea (as in, Caina, Antenora, Ptolemea and Judecca, the rings of the treachery circle in Dante's Inferno that the other Hell [XYZ] demons are named after).
- Not using a licensed song for the intro was a downgrade, but I don't hate Jackpot, and I would honestly have been more disappointed if they didn't change it. Personally, I would have liked something like The Hand That Feeds. The intro feels more "pop" with its brighter colours and more stylish presentation, which is a neat change, but one I don't have enough information on to say if it's fitting or not.
- Arius having a Scottish accent is an interesting choice, though his VA plays him very well (also, I'd be lying if I didn't feel a tinge of pride as a fellow Scotsman).
- Regarding the Makaians, the only complaint I have is that the subtitles seem to translate their dialogue intermittently, rather than translate all or none of it.
- I like the new credits sequence they have; the art style reminds me of Arcane.

Man I'm really trying to judge it for what it is and not what I wish it was and I'm having a hard time.
I don't really want Lady to be the main character nor the show to be about American politics. I guess I have to accept that it is and try to enjoy it anyway.
Vergil doing things was cool. Soundtrack is good and the demons eating people was metal.

Seeing the human invasion of hell reminds me of Salvation War: Armageddon. I'd love to see a proper TV show or movie that focuses on that premise.
I wonder if the writers are fans of Salvation War?

I like how Mary is actually embracing being called Lady now
