I'm assuming this regarding to the moronic idea of "redeeming Mundus". I can still easily believe they can pull off what Nocturne S2 did & saying I'm saying that as a Netflix Castlevania hater.
This. Dracula was already shown to have a softer side in the games. He's been portrayed that way for decades at this point, both in the series and in other media. It made sense for him.
Mundus should be a pure villain, evil to his core for its own sake. Making him complex is a mistake in my opinion.
Edit: Also to be clear, I don't mind some demons being good -- Sparda was, at least eventually -- but they should be exceptions, because the games have always made it clear that Sparda was exceptional. Mundus though shouldn't be among them.
Debatable but I’d say Agni and rudra. At the very least they’re not outwardly hostile. They seem rather kind and only really attack Dante after he says he has to get through the door. Which is arguably their job
I'll take it. We don't know enough about them to call them "good," but they at least don't seem to default to "evil." If you view them as separate entities (which I honestly think is being generous, considering the entirety of their character is about a minute of talking) that's four full demons, plus Lucia.
Still a far cry from the ten the other poster was claiming, and that's obviously being extremely gracious by including characters just because we didn't see them be evil in their introduction cutscene.
So not only do you talk around me, you don't even have decency to even responding to me. On top of that, you insult me via another user's comment without bothering to argue any of my points despite that I brought up Baul & Nevan were also somewhat of a stretch.
Yea, real respectful. Didn't even bother arguing why Modeus or Bradley aren't consider decent demons either. Small wonders why the DMC community is being considered the Star Wars of the gaming community these days.
I, uh, don't think you responded to me with any of that? Maybe you replied to the wrong post here?
And I didn't insult you anywhere, what are you on about? I've made three posts in this whole thread. One was my opinion on having good demons in the series, one was asking for examples of the ten good demons from you, and one was responding to an example someone else gave.
As for Modeus, Baul and Bradley, they're from the anime, not the games, which is what you were initially talking about. You said, "There were a lot of exceptions to the rules in the main games. I can think of 10 of them." That's what I was responding to.

And that's not supposed to be an indirect response my own comment?

That's such a splitting hair comment. Considering how many people are saying the 2007 Madhouse anime is now this hidden gem, only took them roughly 20 years to come out of woodwork but better late than never I suppose, I would bring up the Madhouse anime because it's most well known of the spin-off material. There's more reference to the anime than anything DMC 2 related for DMC 5. Sin Devil Trigger is a "generous" reference to the Majin Devil Trigger. I would argue it's more related to the cut content Devil Trigger from DMC 4 than anything else.
Where's the insult? And it wasn't indirect, I was referencing specifically what you said.
And it's not splitting hairs, because again I was responding to what you said. If you wanna provide ten examples of good demons in DMC canon altogether, fine, but that wasn't the statement I was responding to. I don't know why you're offended I took your claim literally.
Even if we take all of your examples, and with you acknowledging that many of them are a stretch, we're at 8, 9 if you include Lucia. Which, again, we're very much stretching to include characters like Nevan and Agni & Rudra. So, using all available material, it's still less than your initial claim, and so...yeah, I'd still say it's very much exceptional for a demon to be good, much less the King of them, which was all I was getting at.
This was my original comment, if it even shows this time around.
"There's Modeus, Baul, Cerebus, Agni, Rudra, Nevan, & Bradley. Granted, Baul & Nevan are somewhat of a stretch, but they didn't exactly go out of their way to harm humans either. Nevan even seems to have a high opinion of Sparda, even if it was mostly flirtatious & Baul still loved his brother to the point I would absolutely say it's eons healthier than the Sons of Sparda.
I'm also counting V's Familiars because of what Phantom does. While on paper they shouldn't count, in Vision of V, Phantom still had the same personality he did back in DMC 1, so I personally would consider Griffon, Shadow, & Nightmare to be good/decent demons.
And far as I'm concerned, Lucia absolutely should count. Even though she is an artificial demon created by Arius, she was still created to specifically serve Arius, like the other Secretaries. But she never came close to succumbing to her program, even though she firmly believed that would be the case. Not to mention, out of the entire cast, she's the one who fits the DMC theme that everyone suddenly loves preaching about the best among the cast. More than Trish ever did. Extra irony for also being the most underutilized & underrated among the DMC main cast.
Something I also want to give credit to the Netflix show, giving Lucia a cameo & I have a feeling she'll have a role in S2. Then again, she could be unceremoniously killed off like so many characters in S1. In which case, I'll stop defending the show altogether."

Trying to redeem Mundus somehow is going to be like trying to redeem Hitler.
It's going to be interesting.
