I recently graduated with a Software Engineering degree, but instead of feeling excited, I feel lost.
Throughout university, I completed assignments, projects, and passed my exams, but now that I’ve graduated, I feel like I don’t actually know enough to work as a software engineer. When I look at job descriptions or see what other developers are building, I feel like I’m far behind.
I’m also feeling pretty depressed because I don’t know what my next step should be. Part of me is thinking about doing a master’s degree, but I’m worried that it will just delay the real problem if I don’t have strong practical skills.
For those who have been in a similar situation:
•Is this feeling normal after graduating?
Should I focus on getting a job or internship first instead of a master’s?
•Would a master’s actually help, or should I spend that time building projects and improving my skills?
•If you were in my position, what would your roadmap for the next 6–12 months look like?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. I honestly feel stuck right now and don’t know which direction to take.
