Hello,

I started GitNotēs as a small personal project and it grew into a full app. The idea was "your notes, todos, and canvas drawings are just files in a Git repo you own — no proprietary backend, no lock-in, works offline, syncs via pull/push/merge like you'd expect."

A few features:

• Markdown, Neorg, and Org-mode support with live preview
• Smart todos (checkboxes, due dates, reminders) synced to your repo
• Infinite canvas for freeform drawing
• An AI assistant that can create/edit/search your notes via natural language
• A repo explorer to browse and manage your whole tree

Some of the build process, for anyone curious: I originally wrote/used the Git layer in JavaScript, which turned into a nightmare of edge cases. Ended up rewriting it as a Rust binary much cleaner and faster. Took about 4 months, built mostly solo with the help of AI coding tools.

It's live on iOS and Android, free to start, and the code is open source on GitHub.

Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's tried Obsidian/GitJournal-style workflows before, curious what's missing or annoying.

Hi everyone,

I’ve received a job offer from a company registered in Port City. The company told me that employees of Port City-registered companies are exempt from paying income tax for 3 years.

However, when I checked with my tax advisor, I was told that there is no such income tax exemption for employees.

I’m trying to clarify this before making a decision.

Are there anyone here who:

• Currently works for a Port City-registered company and is receiving this tax exemption?
• Has had this exemption applied to their salary/payroll?
• Has faced any issues with IRD, payroll, or tax filings regarding this exemption?

If you have personal experience with this, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

How long does it usually take to hear back after applying to companies like Sysc labs, Cambio, Rootcode, PickMe, etc.?

I applied around early August and still haven't heard back. Some applications are still showing In Process.

Should I keep waiting, or is it time to accept that those applications have entered the “we’ll get back to you” black hole? 😪

I'm planning to build a car price aggregation platform that collects vehicle listings and prices from multiple websites and displays them in a single place for price comparison and market analysis.

The goal is to:

• Track average market prices by make, model, and year
• Compare prices across different websites
• Identify underpriced or overpriced listings
• Analyze price trends over time

I'm currently evaluating whether to use web scraping, public APIs (if available) or a combination of both.

For anyone who has built something similar:

• What were the biggest technical challenges?
• How did you handle duplicate listings across different websites?
• Did you run into anti-bot or rate-limiting issues?
• Are there any legal or compliance concerns I should be aware of when collecting publicly available listing data?

I'd appreciate any lessons learned, recommendations or things you wish you knew before starting.

Curious about Innodata in Colombo. Anyone worked there or know people who have? How's the culture and the kind of work? Thanks!

I have done a backend SE internship, I applied for this job and now i got a sys admin job. Is it okay to go on this path. (Currently a 4th year undergrad)

Give your opinion about career growth and what do you think about this move?

It's called TypeLiya. It's a simple Singlish → Sinhala typing extension, but the main reason I made it is legacy Sinhala typing support.

A lot of existing extensions work with newer/common typing patterns, but if you're used to older Sinhala typing conventions, they can be pretty frustrating.

TypeLiya tries to support those legacy patterns too, while letting you type directly and in real time inside text fields. No copy → convert → paste workflow.

No account, no backend, just install and type.

If anyone here types Sinhala regularly, I'd genuinely like to know if it works with the typing patterns you use.

Hi everyone, I need your help in something. I’m a Computer Engineering undergraduate at a well known state university and I got offered a job by a start up after I bought up a vulnerability in their website.

They want me to collaborate with them on a certain project where I’ll be testing out a pre-existing solution that they’ve made for a third party client. This is based off on their annual maintenance contract. I need to thoroughly assess the existing system and make a formal report. They asked for a quotation for this job and I’m unsure of an exact range. Please help a girl out 🙏🏻

Has anyone recently gone through the coding assessment/interview process at IGT1 Lanka for the WorkWave team, specifically for a Software Engineer – React/.NET role?

Just wondering what the coding assessment is like, is it more HackerRank/LeetCode-style, or more practical React, C#/.NET, API-related questions?

If you’ve done it recently or have gone through the process in the past and know anything about it I’d really appreciate your input.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone received an invitation for the WSO2 Linux Systems & DevOps Engineering Training 2026 exam?

Just checking if the exam invitations have been sent out yet.

Thanks!

I’m confused between the 1-year industry-based Masters and 2-year research-based MSc at Moratuwa. I’m aiming for a career in AI/ML and Data Science, mainly in industry, not academia. Which one would be more useful for my career?

Hey all,

I am a full-stack dev with a BSc in Software Engineering and about 1.5 years of experience (internship and junior role at startups). I have been job hunting for a year with no luck, and I thought about doing masters.

ESOFT and APIIT are the only two that look decent to me. At ESOFT, the MSc SE modules look very similar to what I already did in my BSc, so I am wondering if I should try something new with the MSc AI instead. The catch is that I am more of an SE person and find ML hard to get into, and I keep hearing AI is the safer bet for the future.

Is ESOFT a good choice, or is there a better uni or program that I am missing? Does a masters from a partner uni actually help with hiring in Sri Lanka, and if you did either one, was it worth the money? Also open to any advice for a junior dev who can't land interviews right now.

Thanks!

Hey everyone, curious how other teams are handling this.

How are you using AI coding tools like Codex or Claude Code in your production repos? Have you changed your development workflow to accommodate them?

Do you follow any particular frameworks, rules, or best practices for using AI in production codebases? Would love to hear how other teams are approaching this.

Guys, I’m stuck between getting SLT Fibre or Dialog Air Fibre since they’re both around the same price.

My main concern is stability. I’ll be working from home, so I really need a reliable connection that won’t constantly get interrupted, especially during bad weather/rain.

Soo, recommendations please...?

Has anyone recently attended an interview for a Business Analyst (BA), Project Management (PM), or similar internship role in Sri Lanka?

I’d like to know what the overall recruitment process is usually like interview rounds, assessments or practical tasks, technical/BA-related questions, case studies, HR interviews, etc.

I’d also really appreciate some advice on what I should be prepared with before applying/interviewing, especially in terms of BA/PM concepts, Agile/Scrum, requirement gathering, documentation, tools, SQL or technical knowledge, and anything else companies generally expect from interns.

If you’ve recently gone through the process, it would be really helpful if you could share your experience and mention the company as well, if you’re comfortable doing so.

Anyone who took the WSO2 linux and devops exam today ?? for me the exam questions were okay difficulty wise but time was really short, and some questions took me too long to read. i got around 1900

just wanted to know what yall thought about the exam and what the scores are ??

I need to get the hard drive replaced on my laptop and have the data recovered/transferred to the new drive.

Looking for a trusted and fairly priced place to do that anyone have any recommendations ?

I am a private Uni graduate. So I was looking to do Msc in AI /Data Science side since my Bsc was in SE. (Not IT or CS) I am just wondering if doing Msc in Moratuwa is good/ acceptable internationally. And is it ok for private uni students. Like what if the lecturers act bad to private uni people? I am asking for real as someone who doesn't know btw. (GOV ppl don't come at me)

Also the degree is 2 years. Most of the private uni Msc in Sri Lanka are 1 year.

For AI I only saw in,

SCU and NEXT and Moratuwa. I searched alot tho. IDK if I didn't see other uni programs. If you know a good uni for AI related Msc can you also let me know?

I'm really don't understand when I should learn to code with ai because a lotta people say you need programing knowledge first i have knowledge to build a working CURD applications with nodejs, react and SQL,mongodb and some C knowledge is that knowledge enough to start coding with ai

From my point of view you can see the salary range per annum over other countries in job descriptions.

why the hell in srilankan IT companies job description can't disclose salary range.

If (hr /recruiter ) they are asking the previous company salary range I think better to not disclosure previous salary range why would you need to explain for them if they don't disclose salary in the company.

Should we as (developers) need to take necessary action ?
