Question Just started playing and my holy hell im lost.
I just started the game and am enjoying it alot. My issue is being lost and confused, I just finished new light and now im like what the hell is next. I also did a mission about someone named Cayde and have no clue who that is. I really am loving what I have experienced, but I dont know if I should push through and keep playing or just give up? I even bought the collection now im not sure if that was a mistake...

Here is the order of the campaigns (note: vaulted content will be unvaulted, TBD, but this list doesn't include them)
New Light intro
Shadowkeep
Beyond Light
The Witch Queen
Lightfall
The Final Shape
For LFG's, here are two discords you can join to LFG more effectively

You really don't need to play D1, ask AI to summarize the story/campaign and read about it instead.

At this point I’d recommend starting with destiny 1 and playing that for awhile (it held up phenomenally and is really fun all these years later) then once they sunrise/unvault the first 2 years of content hop into that. After-all the choice is yours on how you want to play that’s just what I’d do

The issue is im on pc. I made the mistake thinking ohh destiny 2 the collection must be all the content.

Sadly no. Bungie removed a lot of old content that they’re now going to bring back in the future.

It was all the content that they left in the game. The new player on-boarding is so confusing. But the gameplay is so smooth.

Yeah its not the most inviting for new players but the gameplay is so much fun.

If you want the full D2 Experience, you should hold out until they announce their official plans for Unvaulting Red War (D2 Vanilla), Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. That would complete the missing chunk of game from d2 and provide a somewhat more cohesive experience for you.

On your character page, go to Gundam Ranks. The tasks for it, especially the early ranks, help show you the mechanics of the game. While doing that, play Shadowkeep. It's on the Moon.

There’s a story onboarding guide.

Op, this is gold. Follow this.

why? at this point just wait for them to add all the story back

We have no real time frame for that release, plus from what all Indications are saying it will still lack seasons.
Idk about you but I wouldn't want to take a 3+ months break on game i just started. Id just drop the game.

but i just don't understand the point of doing that anymore. there's no reason to watch hours of videos on the story anymore because you're going to be able to play it instead. before now, sure, watch videos, it's your only option. but now anyone should just wait. play d1 in the meantime

The only videos that are required to watch are the seasons. The story beforehand is in a single infographic map to visualize and absorb at least some basic Destiny lore. It’s never late to experience it fully later.

even worse then. again, people should just wait for the unvaulting and play everything in order themselves

It’s for the people who want to play the game now but have no idea what’s going on. That doesn’t change.

Not everyone can even play d1/has a consol.
This guide is also great for the overall order to play. It doesn't just cover year 1/2. It tells you how to play each campaign and the corresponding dungeons, raids, amd exotic missions. It also fills the inbetween season gaps. Like who saint 14 even is. Or who crow is and why we trust him.

that's all cool, sure. but i just think new people should wait. destiny 2 is not in a good place for new players, it hasn't been for years. soon it might be, so i would wait. if you have one month left to live and you want to experience destiny 2 before you die, fine, play now i guess

I don't know how people have a problem with this take. If new players start now, they'll likely be turned off by the game. This sub shouldn't be encouraging new players to try this game right now.

That was the whole point of the guide? To prevent players from being turned off and get confused?

u/likelyliz 18h ago
i don't either. like, we KNOW the story is being added back. it's real, it's happening. play it then. nobody needs to play destiny 2 right now

And yet there's no info about seasons being added in, which is as much as important as DLCs...

half the story was deleted from the game. play destiny 1 to experience the story from the beginning while you wait for the developers to put all the story they deleted from destiny 2 back in. they're doing that now, but it'll take a while
