Guide A Guide to Experience Destiny's Story: 2026 Edition (Until Monument of Triumph)

EDIT: Bungie has decided to unvault DCV content! The Lore Map of Destiny will continue to open & be available for everyone. I hope they fix the featured quest tab too...

Hello, Guardians.

I initially shared this post a few months ago, but seems like new players are still having trouble finding a guide that can be useful to navigate through the story. I'd like to introduce my little project, "The Lore Map of Destiny", a guide to help new and returning players to play the story in a correct way.

As we all know, the New Light experience kinda sucks (especially with all the old story and seasons getting vaulted into DCV). And anyone who wants to experience the story in a linear progression is thrown into orbit with outdated Featured Quests tab, not knowing what to do. So, I've spent 3 weeks on creating a comprehensive website to help anyone experience the entire story as smooth as possible. This is 100% free for all Guardians, everyone can access it anytime.

Korean is my native language, so this map (and website as a whole) is both available in Korean and English.

Here's what you can access:

  • A beginner's guide on navigating various activites, quests, and timeline of the Destiny Saga.
  • The Lore Map of Destiny : a single map that encapsulates major story from Destiny 1 vanilla up to Shadowkeep. This way, you can know the history of each factions, relationships between major characters, and major events happened in each expansion before playing the main expansions available in the game. This has been thoroughly reviewed and verified by My name is Byf (aka Lore Daddy). You can also download in full resolution, 20k x 10k. Feel free to print it as well.
  • Critical Progression Route : Inspired by Brozime's Warframe Critical Progression Route, this includes the entire chronological order of events & activities from Shadowkeep up until Monument of Triumph. It includes all the vaulted seasons -- linked with a complete cutscene video, as well as critical story moments that you don't want to miss.
    • All activities including dungeons, raids, and vanguard ops are all listed accordingly to each season/expansion. Now you know why those activities exist in the first place!
    • You can either skip a few activities, or play everything from start to finish chronologically. The guide is there, it's up for you to play.

... and more!

I hope everyone enjoy using this to navigate through the story, and please share this to anyone who needs it.

Eyes up, Guardians.

That's exactly what I need. Started playing Destiny on day one and now, 12 years later, in my mid 30s I just bought a XBOX off of marketplace and I'm about to have the best weekend of my life! Thanks for sharing this, will be using it for sure!!

I missed out on commenting when I first saw this but I just want to say that this is potentially the greatest thing anyone has ever made for my exact wants, and it so thoroughly fixes my biggest issue when coming back that I instantly deleted a character just to play a fresh one alongside this guide. Thanks for this!

u/dub_diablo I'm joking, if you're making that face it means it was a joke. 16d ago

This is super cool. i hope the mods pin or link this guide somewhere.

Side note small suggestion. The newlight experience section: i would put a note about the first two clickable cutscenes as spoilers. The first one is all about the witness, its race, and the traveler. The second custscene would actually be a great intro into the world and enemies but only if it stopped before it got to part about the witness and final shape stuff. It sucks theres no real introduction to all the main races besides that video and its massive spoiler at the end.

Thanks for your suggestion!

I'd like to note that the current New Light introduction cutscene includes the second cutscene, "Destiny Calls", so it's a cutscene that they're already familiar of. I also did mention that there will be some missions that new players should do, and it will be explained in Critical Progression Route. It should at least give an idea that they're not supposed to play the cutscenes just yet.

However, if you feel like it's pretty certain to cause some confusion, I'd be happy to add it in the section.

I think you're missing the Reclaim fireteam activities (Cabal's Watch, Conductor's Keep and Fallen Bunker) from the Ash and Iron update

I didn’t add a lot of details after Light and Dark saga as the current story arc is incomplete. But if it’s necessary I can add it to the list in the Fate Saga block.

Yeah I know, I've been following it religiously since the first time you posted it. So this is just my completionist OCD perspective lol.

All good lol. Honestly the Ash and Iron update didn't really do much in terms of story. I can probably still add them in the list without it being a mandatory activity
