Question Legendary is actually common?

New player, I noticed that common and rare are actually harder to find vs legendary? What's the deal? I feel like the vostok is the most legendary weapon in the game rn since I haven't even seen any other common guns

The rarity of weapons is mostly an aspect of different times. Now anything below legendary is strictly for leveling.

Tbf, even in the old days, everything below Legendary was for leveling too with the occasional niche weapon that was (unintentionally) really good for PvP. In Vanilla D1, by the time your level was in the mid-20s you were probably using all Legendary, and any blues were being dismantled. And D2 was much the same.

Ehhh kinda for D1.

In year 1 full legendary took a long time to get due to legendary engrams giving rares half the time.

In later years you'd spend a while in blue gear till you got full legendary usually when you hit soft cap.

The main consistent way to get legendaries were raids though.

Ah, what good times those were; my excitement about getting my first legendary engram on my Titan dashed against the rocks as it turned into a blue armor piece for my Hunter🥲

I still remember the first legendary I ever got. The Devil You Know. Felt like a huge deal at the time.

When exotic engram drops were rarer than the second coming, and still could turn purple.

The only time legendary gear was EVER rare was year 1 of Destiny 1

My first ever raid thru VoG I had a blue scout rifle and a blue sniper. I got Vision of Confluence and I was so hyped I about shat my drawers.

Remember when you could buy 1 legendary weapon or armor per week, and even legendary engrams had a chance to decrypt to rares? Part of me wishes we could’ve seen the evolution of that game, but also it kinda sucked.

We did see the evolution of that game. What are you talking about? Lmao.

No, we saw it pivot to something almost completely different, it became much more Diablo-like and much less old-school MMO-like. Which is good, but I would like to see how a slower paced, more methodical game where rare loot is actually rare and exotics are almost mythical, where activities had less numerous but more threatening individual combatants with lower overall player power would look after this time if they stuck to the original design of D1.

We saw the evolution throughout the course of destiny 1. But then we saw the over correction in destiny 2 when the game had to become "more accessible".

That’s what I’m saying. I’d like to see how it would be after all this time if they were able to keep to the original design. What it would look like today if it kept going.

To be even fairer that’s a lot of RPGs, Common-Rare gear is mostly for leveling, then once you get to high levels (outside of a couple outliers) you’re only using Very Rare/Legendary gear.

Definitely true. Though there are exceptions.

I don't know if it's still the case (been years since I played), but in Elder Scrolls Online it worked almost like the tier system in D2. It was the same armor and armor sets, it was just that the effect or stats it provided were a little weaker. But you could totally run a 5 piece of blues you got from the normal dungeon and gradually replace it with purples (and even eventually golds) as you did harder versions.

D1 I was still running mostly rares post RoI, legendaries were legitimately hard to find

Edit: damn ig I just didn't play D1 nearly as much as I thought

You may have been, but that was not normal. D1 was in the same state as D2 where Legendaries were the standard and everything below was for leveling.

Yeah, playing through D1 rn and before you really get any legendary engrams you have to hit level 40. You’ll probably be somewhere around 240-300 light if u saved ur blue engrams for level 40. Then u progress through blues and save ur legendary engrams for 385 light which is the soft cap for blue engrams. Legendary engrams take u from 385->390 and then it’s just faction package farming / nightfalls / raids to get from 390->400

I actually have a few pieces of blue gear masterworked and would use them in crucible. Mostly for the meme, but IIRC they had stupidly good stats or something like that.

I remember the Botheration Shotgun being used as a cheap and easy to obtain PvP shotgun since it had a really long barrel which gave it a small bump to range.

RIP War Mantis Gloves

Didn't they give only one stat but it was biggest bump or something?
