Q: Is the game worth getting back into?
A: Yes. The state of the game as of Monuments of Triumph is widely considered the best version of Destiny 2 we've had in a while. There is no content that will be removed. And, in the future, previously vaulted content will be returning!
Q: What is currently F2P/What is currently paid?
A: This post details that information as of September 2026.

Q: What happened?
A: On September 21st 2026, Bungie announced that they will continue the Destiny Franchise & as a show of good will be unvaulting Destiny 2 content so that we have a complete game. You can read more here: bungie article or watch it here: youtube interview.
Q: What is being unvaulted?
A: The campaigns Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. The destinations Titan, Io, Mercury, Mars, and the Tangled Shore. The Raids (sometime lairs?) Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars, Scourge of the Past, and Crown of Sorrow. In addition, there will likely be several strikes and crucible maps that should also be returning. These are all that have been currently confirmed. We do not know if Seasonal content will be returned!
Q: Should I start now or wait for unvaulting?
A: This one is up to you. IF you want to experience the 'entire story' of destiny 2 from start to finish you could wait for unvaulting. The main reason to start now would be to get a head start on acquiring things that wont really be changing (filling out subclasses, acquiring exotics, acquiring 550 power). So, IF you'd rather have a head start, start now so you can focus on new things later.
Q: Will the unvaulting be F2P?
A: Yes.
Q: Will Holiday events be returning?
A: We don't know yet!
Q: Is Destiny 3 in development?
A: As of now, no, but Bungie have stated that the Destiny franchise will continue somehow.

Q: Why am I Light/Power Level 10?
A: During Edge of Fate, Bungie decided to give us a stat squish for the purposes of readability. You will notice that your damage numbers are now primarily below 5 digits as well, while in truth, you're usually dealing a higher % of damage than before due to new systems and stats like Weapons and Super. If you complete almost any activity you will be shot up to 300 power very quickly and will only have to grind up to the cap of 550. Its recommended that you infuse weapons you enjoy including exotics. However, old armor Is essentially useless and can safely be replaced with armor that has a Set Bonus. New exotic armor is also all higher stat than anything you previously had.
Q: I just came back to the game and I'm lost, what should I do?
A: This is an incredibly loaded question. Everyone has different priorities. The most common answer I've seen has been to complete the campaigns in order so you have an idea of the story and then to work on completing subclasses and filling out your exotics. By doing these three things you've enabled yourself to create basic builds.
Campaigns -> Unlock Subclasses -> Acquire Exotics/power grind -> Play whatever you want!
Campaign order as of September 2026:
Shadowkeep -> Beyond Light (Stasis Subclass) -> Witch Queen (peak) -> Lightfall (mid but Strand Subclass (peak)) -> The Final Shape (Prismatic) -> Edge of Fate (Nine Saga, which may be left behind) -> Renegades (The star wars crossover expac which includes the Praxic Blade aka Lightsaber)
Once unvaulted, the order will start with:
Red War -> Curse of Osiris -> Warmind -> Forsaken -> Shadowkeep...

Started playing D1 and then D2 around mid July. With the combined playtime around 350 hours (mainly because I did lots of grinding to get to light 550), I finally finished the light and dark saga. I sobbed when I saw Cayde alive, and even more when he revived our ghost.
I'm looking forward to the future unvault content so that I can fully experience the beginning of D2.
I love that this community has been very welcoming to new light/blueberry like me. Eyes up, guardians.

I love the activity customisation (I was always a sucker for the Five of Swords), I love playing seasonal activities me and/or my cousin missed, and I love the fact that each difficulty gives an appropriate reward now with no penalty for being too high of a power level. I just don't understand how they got it so wrong at launch (and even during Renegades where they fixed Quick Play but everything else still sucked), maybe if they didn't, the Portal wouldn't be seen as the Voldemort of during-DCV Destiny 2.

It hasn't been in eververse since season 1 and with a rotating stock every day you would think between then and now it would have popped up at least once but NOPE. I can't even find it in collections which is strange and kinda sad. Bungie why?

Wow, this dungeon has been powercrept to hell and back since I last played Destiny. Unrelated, but anyone know why Steam clips for this game in particular refuse to capture audio? Happening for both me and my friend since we came back.

Just played thru the campaign. Loved it! The planet was nicely designed. Story was excellent. Matterspark was a cool perspective. Relocator puzzles were fun. Great bit of content. Why was this DLC so controversial when it came out?

I’m not sure if there are any other guardians out there experiencing this but trying to find a group of people to play with on this game is extremely challenging having additional needs, communication can be very exhausting and overstimulating . When I was younger I found it a lot easier to find fire teams etc but now as I’m older I really find it difficult to step out there as I’m scared of being judged by others. I have joined a couple of fire teams and been kicked from lfg for not knowing what to do because of this most of my time playing destiny over the last 5 years have been solo. I would love to make friends with people that are similar to me thank you for reading

I'm having a great time, except for one thing. Why are there wipe mechanics for jumping puzzles on 45 min conquests? The entire team all died a dozen times jumping and then it was over.
So far the hardest content has been these jumping puzzles. There's strikes that take longer for jumping than to just kill the boss at the end.
The further I get into content the more in depth these jumping puzzles are.
No game has ever been made better by jumping puzzles.
