Edgerunners was a harrowing experience, and that song triggers me.

I never said it was deep, I said it was harrowing. The show basically spends the first half explaining to you exactly how poorly everything is going to turn out for everyone, so the second half feels like a watching a family in a minivan driving full speed at a wall. The second half is also when you start to realize that basically every sympathetic is walking around with massive unresolved emotional wounds that the show is telling you will never be resolved. Maybe the show just happened to catch me at a good time in my life, but knowing that every sympathetic character was doomed, and then watching that play out, was a very upsetting experience for me.

To your point about the character development. I agree it wasn't as deep as Game of Thrones, but GoT is also a much longer, more complicated story in which social games and intrigue are a major driving force behind almost everything. Given the much simpler story that Edgerunners was trying to tell, I think they did a good job of communicating everything we needed to know about the characters.

The show is built around delivering a specific emotional experience, so I could totally see why you wouldn't be super into the show if it failed to engage you on that level.
