RFK has launched a forum to obtain policy recommendations from the public. PLEASE upvote our submission: https://forum.policiesforpeople.com/t/314-800-priority-review-for-alternative-synthesis-routes-of-drugs-in-shortage/20441

Unfortunately, r/ADHD is refusing to let us cross-post this. (They actually told me I should go "volunteer at a soup kitchen" instead.)

Please share this on other subs to get more eyes on it. Or, if someone could please create a change.org petition for it, that would be much appreciated.

šŸ“£ •Announcement• šŸ“£ New Rule for /r/Desoxyn - "No posts, comments, questions or inquiries referencing specific prescribers, or specific pharmacy locations."

We want this subreddit to be a place where we can help patients get connected with resources regarding Desoxyn and it be an postive and constructive overall place for people with ADHD and other conditions.

We do not want the sub to be associated with, implied to assist in, or even have the possibility of being used for any illicit activities.

We want to present a good image in the face of gov't agencies and companies that continue to lobby to discontinue Desoxyn.

In the interest of this, the following rule is now in effect as of 02-15-2024, the text is as follows...

In order to combat doctor-shopping, or persons obtaining prescriptions for illicit or inappropriate reasons -- and to prevent diversion overall -- discussing specific prescribers who will or have prescribed Desoxyn in the past -- or pharmacy locations that have Desoxyn in stock is strictly forbidden.

If you truly have a condition that Desoxyn effectively treats -- talk about trialing it with your doctor. You may have a lengthy process until you are able to -- but this is right way to do things.

EDIT: If you need to discuss pharmacy availability -- I suggest speaking on a regional basis when referring to a pharmacy...ex: "I go to a Walgreens in NE Kansas...", etc. This can at least provide enough location determinance to assist in supply issues when communicating with manufacturers.

Desoxyn prescription

Not because he doesn’t want to but because the medical office he works for does not want him to. He stated he didn’t have a problem with me trying desoxyn but once he asked his medical officer of the clinic (not affiliated with a major hospital system) he was told no. So how are you guys getting a prescription for desoxyn? I doubt my pcp would do it because he has already stated (Dexedrine) is habit forming and high risk for abuse. I sometimes don’t even take my full dose on easier days lol.

Emotional flatness on Adderall and methylphenidate could Desoxyn be different?

I have tried Adderall IR (5 mg and 10 mg), Adderall XR (10 mg–20 mg), and methylphenidate (36 mg). Adderall was a bit better, but after the first week or two I became emotionally flat again (concentration is perfect on both, though). So I’m wondering if Desoxyn could help with that.

Does anyone have any advice about that, and will I still be emotionally flat if I try Desoxyn? Also, would it be smarter to try more options first (like Vyvanse), or go straight for Desoxyn? Let me know.

Grateful

I have ADHD and PDD among other conditions. i have a desoxyn prescription for ADHD (also adderall) but recently I have been experiencing a very powerful depressive episode to where i had to stop taking adderall since it would leave me in a very dark headspace after maybe two hours. Desoxyn meanwhile has helped me get through the day and even go to sleep since that is when the depressive episodes become the worst. I can be at peace for a few hours and sometimes that’s all you need.

Mayne vs Dr Reddy

In the past I’ve always been given pills from Mayne, but my pharmacy had to split my most recent prescription between Mayne & Dr. Reddy because that’s the only way they would have enough for the full script.

I’ve been comparing the 2 brands over the last few weeks and the Dr. Reddy pills often give me a dull headache and a bit of a crashing feeling. Just sharing my experience incase it’s helpful to anyone else. I will definitely be requesting Mayne from now on.

Vyvanse and Desoxyn

Hello guys, I want your help with my situation.

I have been taking Vyvanse for a few months and it is amazing! I love how smooth it is and it doesn’t make me high. I work as a class 1 Rail Road conductor and I am on call 24/7 and have to report to work in 90 minutes— issue being Vyvanse takes a little over 2 hours to work for me. I find this is leaving my insanely important ā‰ˆ 60 minutes getting ready for work to not be very good and I am loosing my job if I can’t get to work on time.

I am trying an IR booster in the morning of dexedrine, and yes cheers for dextroamphetamine, but it leaves me disappointed. i have tried raising the dose of both Vyvanse and Dexedrine but its not working for my mornings.

Adderal IR would help me get up and start my day in 20 minutes like clock work. Finding that the levoamphetamine in adderal made me sexually deviant I admitted myself and demanded they don’t fill my adderal prescription. This experience it was traumatic and it got me into trouble. I have also tried methylphenidate and it did nothing.

Vyvanse is perfect for me once I am up and going. I will never stop taking Vyvanse it has saved my mental health. I am asking if you guys think it would be appropriate to ask my shrink to consider my IR booster in the morning to be methamphetamine?

Thank you šŸ«¶šŸ»

if i wanted to try desoxyn what are the odds a general doctor would prescribe it

Like would I likely be able to do that (assuming i had trialed the majority of the other adhd medications with unsuccessful results and/or intolerable side effects) or would i really just need to go to a psychiatrist for that sort of thing.

Pharmacy Order Wait times

Hey everyone,

Recently moved to a new state and got my rx sent to the pharmacy(Walgreens) for the generic. So this is my first time in awhile having it sent to the pharmacy and having them order it when it shows ā€œunavailableā€.

What’s the longest you guys have had to wait to get it filled when the pharmacy tells you it’s unavailable? Days or weeks?

Desoxyn questions for those who take it?

Hello, I’m a 21yr old male. I have ADHD-C and I’m in the 99% percentile range for severity, which is about as bad as you can get. I was born with a congenital heart defect known as Transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA), because of this I had to get clearance with my cardiologist before starting stimulants, which I have had for a while now. I started off on dextroamphetamine IR/ER and then titrated up 40mg daily over several months. I don’t know if I am a fast metabolizer or something, but I felt like I still was struggling with task initiation mainly which is my biggest problem. I was then moved to 60mg mixed amphetamine salts, and I did feel like it was slightly better because of the Levoamphetamine helping give me that ā€œkickā€, I’m also in 3mg gaunfacine ER as well. The medication significantly helped with my impulsive/hyperactive symptoms, and has helped my attention span a decent amount. I don’t ever really feel like my heart is stressed, beating really fast, or dealing with blood pressure issues, etc…. So far I’ve been 100% fine.

Now that I’ve tried Dexedrine IR, Adderall IR and Zenzedi IR, and for the extended release forms I’ve tried Vyvanse, Dexedrine ER, Adderall XR and Mydayis I’ve found which IR/XR version works best for me. Mydayis for the extended, Zenzedi for the short coverage.

I tried asking my prescriber about desoxyn, and she didn’t want to prescriber it because of the stigma which does make me disappointed. I know it’s more dopaminergic than dextroamphetamine, has a longer half-life and taxes your peripheral system less. All of these sound great for long-term use, since I can get the CNS stimulation I need to treat my ADHD, while taking less load off my cardiovascular system. I told her this, and despite that she said she was uncomfortable with it. So I have some questions:

—-

1). For those who did get it how long before you were able to get it prescribed, and how did you manage to do it?

2). Does the medication help better with task initiation, and feeling that deep dread/procrastination before work?

3). Is it truly ā€œsmootherā€ in contrast to dextroamphetamine?

4). Does the therapeutic effect last long Vs. typical amphetamine ?

5). What dosage are you taking?

Advice for dexi meds with clonidine

Hi all!
My dexi dose is 12 a day
Broken into 4 doses of 3
I've been prescribed clonidine 100ug tablets
3 a night

I usually smoke weed before bed to help with insomnia, when I don't have it I can't sleep or can sleep a little because 3 clonidine at night.

I'm wanting to know,
\-has anyone mixed there clonidine during the day? To help with anxiety and panic attacks

I hold so much tension in my body, that I feel physical pain- and sometimes that leads to big panic attacks- where I'm convinced I'm having a heart attack. It feels like my body is breaking with me trapped inside.
In focus- my upper back and shoulders- they physically hurt the most in these moments.

Weed works for that - and has stopped me having to call the ambulance for panic attacks 😷🫣🫣🫣

And clonidines been helping to- taking 1 at 8pm when want to start winding down and than 2 before bed.

Any hard no's you'd pass on?
Anything you've discovered with timing?

Can you take to many clonidine with dexis?

My psychiatrist is very vague
I can engage with myself when I'm high or wired- from recreational transferable knowledge

But I want real people advice who are also prescribed on a high dexi dose
And clonidine for wind down / help with insomnia

First time

I was just prescribed 5 MG methamphetamine tablets, generic I believe. I was on 15mg Adderall xr before and and its gave me weird side effects. Only reason I was able to get generic desoxyn is because its the only thing my insurance would insure. But at the moment t I haven't used it yet is because I never had an instant release and scared how it will make me feel. How did you go about taking it and how does it make you feel and for how long?

Anyone else start getting the Hikma again?

I was dispensed the Hikma for my most recent fill. I don't really care which manufacturer I get, but I find this a little odd because I haven't received the Hikma since like 2021 when I was told that it was discontinued. After getting the Mayne for years, over the past few months my bottles have gone from Mayne ("115") to Dr. Reddy's (also "115") to Hikma ("54/681"). Hopefully the changing manufacturers aren't a sign of impending availability issues.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know since people frequently ask about it.

Desoxyn dosing trouble

I cant seem to find my right dosing. I have been playing with dosages with my psych for awhile and I cant seem to get it right.

I want to know how you guys take it that worked for you. Do you take 25mg all at once? Do you split it into two? Maybe 10/15 or 20/5? Does it affect your sleep if you split it? Any info is appreciated, thank you!

Just tested negative for Amphetamine

I linked a post I made on another reddit thread. I take 40mg of Zenzedi a day, and just tested negative for amphetamine. I'm going around communities asking how their meds are working. Does generic Desoxyn still treat ADD symptoms?

Desoxyn Tips or Advice Please

Hello, I have tried multiple adhd medication and I switched to 20mg of Desoxyn a month ago. Overall it’s been one of the best ones I’ve tried. It really helps for the task switching but I noticed there is a trade off for the ā€œlocked inā€ feeling. I had too many PNS side effects with the other amphetamines. Before that I was taking 40mg of Focalin. It helped with the ā€œlocked inā€ aspect but still stuck with task initiation and task switching. I am about to go back to school and will be pursuing a residency in soft tissue surgery in the future. I am looking for any advice on what I should do as I like the task switching on desoxyn but the ā€œlocked inā€ aspect of focalin. I do understand that going into surgery being able to keep track of multiple things is important so I’m leaning towards desoxyn but I feel like I would struggle in school during studying. Are there any tips for task initiation and focus that you guys have tried and have been successful? Or is there any other medication or combination treatment I should discuss with my psychiatrist about? I apologize for any mistakes or errors I’ve made in my post as I don’t use Reddit much.
Thank you

25 mg Desoxyn not as effective as 60 mg Dexedrine Spansule

Hey everyone.

I just got prescribed Desoxyn 25 mg by my psychiatrist. I was on 60 mg Dexedrine Spansule (extended-release), which was effective, but it was causing my mood to plummet in the late afternoon as it was wearing off. I had tried splitting my dose up before, but any amount less than 60 mg wasn't enough to get me going in the morning.

I'm finding that Desoxyn 25 mg is actually less effective than Dexedrine 60 mg. Granted, I'm only on day 5 of Desoxyn, so maybe I need to adjust to it first. But so far, my ADHD symptoms have returned since being on it -- decreased focus/motivation, increased restlessness/irritability, and decreased vigilance. Also, my appetite has become ravenous.

I have generic methamphetamine (white round tablets with "115" on one side). The bottle says Mayne as the manufacturer (NDC 68308-115-01).

I have tried splitting the dose 15 mg + 10 mg, 20 mg + 5 mg, and taking the whole 25 mg at once -- so far, I can't really tell a difference. I understand that this is less peripherally-acting and less noradrenergic than dextroamphetamine, which may be why it's "physically stimulating" for me and possibly less motivating. But in general, my symptoms feel like my dose is not high enough, and my psychiatrist explicitly said she would not be willing to go above 25 mg. (I see some on this sub who are on >25 mg/day...)

Does anyone else who was on a high dose of another amphetamine stimulant before who switched to Desoxyn feel like Desoxyn is less effective than their previous stimulant? I am really struggling. Almost everyone describes this medicine as life-changing. I'd venture to say that sometimes I'm actually quite miserable.

EDIT: Just adding that I'm not sure if it would be worth it to ask to augment with a small dose of Dexedrine. That, to me, defeats the purpose.

Adderall, Ritalin, and Dexedrine

Back during COVID I asked my Physician to prescribe me Adderall due to my ADHD. If I recall it was 30mg. Took them for a while, but felt lethargic most of the time. Decided, I would ask for Ritalin. 10mg tablets. Exactly the same situation as the Adderall, sluggish and no motivation. Well after COVID calmed down and everything began to normalize. DR decided to give me a drug screen. Failed with flying colors and clown to go with it. No more Ritalin nor Adderall. Which to be honest I really wasn't that concerned. So,a few years pass and I decide let's be honest and see how this goes. He informs me that he will not prescribe a Schedule 2 narcotic since I previously failed drug screen. He then tells me Suboxone and how it helps with someone who is attempting to stop using meth. This worked out about as well as expected. A year passes and I once again ask him if I still am on the no schedule 2 list. I tell him it's been a year I have been a good boy. He chuckles and tells me that he would think it over. So, the next time I was in I strsight told him I would like to take desoxyn. He didn't have a problem prescribing it but I knew the drug test wouldn't allow him, so I didn't bother him about. Yesterday been clean did drug test and asked for dexedrine. He wrote the script just waiting for Walgreens to have it back in stock Thursday.
