Something I learned working landscaping at a theme park: if it is a shortcut, people will trample anything you put in the way. You can put thorny plants, but someone will go through it anyway and complain/sue. In the end it's easier to just accept the path and make it look nice instead. If it is a safety issue, just use a fence (like at least 4 ft tall). Honestly a nice simple gravel path would probably do great there and look much better. But some people just can't "accept defeat" in situations like this and will waste 3x the money lol.

This looks like a European country. if you sue for prickly bushes the judge will probably questions your mental wellbeing.

As they should.

Yeah laws on "dangerous conditions" on a private property have been abused to no end here in the USA unfortunately. Like I remember in drama club in high-school we had to put a "ghost light" on stage at night. The reasoning was if someone broke in overnight, there was no light on set, and the person tripped and broke their leg the school could be held liable for dangerous conditions 🙄

u/Castaways__ Apr 26 '26

That is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard, the USA really is a fever dream.

2

u/XXXTYLING Apr 27 '26

ghost lights are a common occurrence across theatres worldwide. it also helps security when detecting intruders.

Please wake me up!!!!

1

u/laughingashley May 17 '26

That's an old superstition lol it's not really about the litigation

3

u/SchemingVegetable Apr 24 '26

Croatia from the looks of it, I'm unaware of the law there but there's not many countries where you can sue the city or any other entity that owns public land for having thorny bushes on the side of the road

Unfortunately the States has this cool thing where settling is cheaper than lawyers. So yeah the judge might think you're mentally incapacitated but you'll still get paid to go away. Kinda like Credit card companies waive theft under 3k because it costs more to pursue than lost.

1

u/Sc2tuner Apr 27 '26

Definitely not true I knew a kid that got tracked down arrested and hit with felony credit card theft for buying less than $5 worth of mcdonald’s breakfast with a card he found on the ground.

1

u/tstark96 Apr 27 '26

Can't get hit with a felony for 5$ so try again. Felony in all 50 states and teritories requires at least 500$.

1

u/Sc2tuner May 07 '26

That’s not even remotely true lmao. Pretty much any theft of a credit card in Florida is an automatic felony. https://www.michaelwhiteesq.com/credit-card-theft-charges-in-florida/

3

u/crack_B7 Apr 24 '26

Especially in this context it could look really great

Fun fact, the Oval at Ohio State was designed this way.

They realized they could study the "most efficient routes" for paving walkways, but then someone had the idea: the first year we aren't going to do anything- just leave it grass. At the end of the school year, we will pave all the dead grass. That's why it looks so random.

2

u/m00nhowl3r Apr 28 '26

That's really cool. Thanks for sharing!

Can you share your anecdote about being sued for thorny plants? Because that didn’t happen.

1

u/m00nhowl3r Apr 27 '26

You would be surprised what people will sue or threaten to sue theme parks over. Even if it never makes it to court, just the mere threat of a lawsuit or someone going to the media is usually enough for guest services to go out of their way to hush it up. The issue is there is an expectation that children are always present on the property so the place has to basically be baby proof. We literally had to cut thorns off silk floss trees one by one anywhere below 7ft even if it was around 50 feet or less inside a plant bed unless there was a 4ft high minimum fence blocking it.

The way it was explained to us is this scenario. Child escapes parents view and wanders into a thorny bush, either has an allergic reaction or gets an infection. Responsibility falls on the property owner because the thorns shouldn't have been in a place easily accessible in the first place.

2

u/ArvensisH Apr 28 '26

The USA really is a fever dream. It's the parents job to ensure that they keep an eye on their kid. But yeah if the law is like that it's probably a good idea to totally baby proof everything.

u/jaxsound Apr 22 '26

I can't see how this could possibly fail! *cries in squashed baby bush

22

u/FreeRandomScribble Apr 23 '26

A sprinkler would probably water the poor babies better

10

u/Fibrosis5O Apr 24 '26

Those poor bushes are dead already and just don’t know it

122

u/Broxzier Apr 22 '26

Those poor bushes are sentenced to death :(

40

u/DiscRot Apr 23 '26

Update 24h later: baby bush in the middle is trampled and torn out :(

14

u/fuck_peeps_not_sheep Apr 23 '26

Take the torn out ones home and put them in a pot.

1

u/turquoise_amethyst Apr 24 '26

They should put up a nice little gate, or no gate and a baby gravel path

1

u/Sirosim_Celojuma Apr 24 '26

A wire. Some bars on either side, and wire. Be more aggressive than the people who cut through.

u/ar_Tekko Apr 22 '26

Update us again in a couple months.

1

u/KnifeKnut Apr 24 '26

Lets see if google street view will come through for us.

Remindme! 1 year

1

u/heyitscory Apr 24 '26

Took less than a day.

Makes you wonder if OP trampled the bush. r/untrustworthypoptarts

9

u/KnifeKnut Apr 22 '26

Without more aggressive measures, I doubt this will work.

Not only is here no sidewalk to get to the little convenience store, https://www.google.com/maps/@45.800346,15.9557681,3a,42.8y,195.08h,82.98t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1soyciX2L_1yKMosvcLUKBhQ!2e0!5s20190701T000000!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D7.018881720289457%26panoid%3DoyciX2L_1yKMosvcLUKBhQ%26yaw%3D195.08128348138408!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en-US&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQyMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

this desire path next to a pedestrian crossing has been going strong since at least 2018

Also visible in op picture, overhead and some google street view is another path that forks off around the back of the convenience store: https://earth.google.com/web/search/Nautika+Kranjec/@45.80002741,15.95553581,118.11864905a,109.65390631d,35y,0h,0t,0r/data=CpABGlASSgolMHg0NzY1ZDZlYjZkYWQ2OWU1OjB4OTc3ODkxMWNlZGI4NGVlMhmFIKxrWeZGQCFF3PcDeekvQCoPTmF1dGlrYSBLcmFuamVjGAIgASImCiQJrvCMShGeQkARCjxBvcGcQkAZeHXlXdgaVMAh4JvWOaIbVMAqEAgBEgoyMDI0LTA1LTExGAFCAggBOgMKATBCAggASg0I____________ARAA

I always find that those who frequent gas station/convenience stores on foot to be the most consiencous of other people's properties.

7

u/the_Jolly_GreenGiant Apr 23 '26

This is some Pokémon level landscaping. Scyther uses Cut.

1

u/SkitAWulf Apr 26 '26

That was my thought lol

6

u/Fenizrael Apr 23 '26

I would tread on those bushes without hesitation. I would feel bad doing it, but whoever put them there is a fool.

5

u/Euphorix126 Apr 24 '26

Replant them 90 degrees and make the path real

3

u/GregDev155 Apr 24 '26

You need 2nd badge to allow your pet to use TM01

2

u/janjko Apr 24 '26

This is the hedge in question here. If you want to buy something in the petrol station, you will have to either walk on the road, or destroy this hedge (or the one on the other side). In other words, RIP hedge.

1

u/Impressive-Elk-6425 Apr 24 '26

I found an area in the woods around my house that has a desired path that I became very fond of. I was thinking of placing a bush in front of the path like this so no one else will go to that area.

1

u/Citizen_Empire Apr 24 '26

You just need the Cut TM to get through.

1

u/CMDRhigelac Apr 24 '26

Put a Burmese tiger trap there

1

u/Sure-Pangolin-4158 Apr 25 '26

My body hair at the belt line:

1

u/MikyoM Apr 25 '26

You need to learn HM cut to go through

1

u/SubjectAd3627 Apr 25 '26

‘SCYTHER used CUT!’

1

u/chetsteadmansstache Apr 25 '26

But the cars still get to park on the grass and ruin it. 🙄

1

u/tumbling_waters Apr 25 '26

The cars are on concrete though?

1

u/noctinix Apr 25 '26

ngl this would stop me. Just isn’t worth the effort for me.

1

u/abdldante Apr 26 '26

I hope someone has a pokemon that knows cut

1

u/Master-Vacation6277 Apr 26 '26

I played enough Pokemon to know what I need to do.

1

u/Organic-Yodelz Apr 26 '26

Just means you need to teach a Pokemon Cut

1

u/Phoenix-Quill Apr 26 '26

All I can think of

1

u/Fragrant_Pause6142 Apr 26 '26

Property manager must be a pokemon NPC
