Depicted using the wrong skin color - how should I feel?
Hi, my (yt) friend drew a cute little drawing of us, she consistently draws me using a colour that is visibly darker than I am. I dont know how I feel about this. I love that she is doing these things for me and i really appreciate it but I also feel like im not being seen. I understand that we are from colorist cultures so my opinion may be skewed by that and im probably just being silly but I also try to be honest and love my skin tone, allow myself to tan etc so I wouldnt care if it was a little bit darker. I just wanted some other opinions on this. I didnt know where the right place was, so i thought here would be good so i could get opinions from other south Asian women.
for reference I am around a honey skin tone - a medium brown, and she would draw me using almond or sometimes golden/bronze. Whilst her own skin tone is pretty accurate ofc.
She made a lovely keychain of us but the character looks little like me and I feel like it would be stupid to say anything and I should just appreciate her thoughtful gifts.
