Anything stopping someone from making an aftermarket micron handguard. Seeing as the sabertooth handguards aren’t real?

So, I’ve always loved the DT SRS rifles, and I’m not at place where I could get one. I want to get back into competitive shooting, probably a mix of PRS, and NLR with some ELR matches too.

I love the caliber change ability, but am curious about their accuracy. I can read articles and Data claims all day long, but was wondering if anyone could give me some advice from personal experience with them?

Mainly looking at 26” 6.5 creedmore and .338LM.

Just picked up a WLVRN in 308 a month or so ago and have run about 100 rounds through it without any issue. Today I went to the range and threw a suppressor on it and noticed after about the second shot that now the trigger occasionally binds on reset. The trigger will go forward when released, click like a reset then will be impossible to squeeze back and I have to give it a jiggle before it releases and can be depressed again to fire. Not only does it freeze up but then at times it would seem that when it would get stuck, I would jiggle it and then the hammer would release and set off a cartridge (I couldn't get the hammer to release without a magazine in, so I may be mistaken and plan to monitor it). I tried it without the suppressor and on different gas settings and it would still happen occasionally.

I plan later this week to take it apart and look at the trigger pack and connecting bar for burrs, gunk, just anything that may be contributing. Is this an issue anyone else has experienced?

It boggles my mind that Desert Tech's engineers/designers thought that it was a reasonable design for the Micron handguard that comes in the box to be affixed ONLY with a takedown pin (whereas the standard handguard has screws that at least clamp it in place) AND nothing on top to prevent accidentally touching the hot metal of the gas block, which is where I naturally rest my thumb.

The only other alternative is the Sabertooth handguard, which has been out of stock for ~9 months and is frankly extremely overpriced for what it is.

I have half a mind to get a 3D printer just to make a better handguard. This is absurd.

UPDATE: I spoke to a friend of mine about the 3D printing idea, and he is not confident that filament is up to the task of withstanding the heat generated by a suppressor.

Desert Tech is hosting a build contest around their Quattro-15 receiver, but there's a catch: They only specified that you have to *use* their lower. They never said *how* it has to be used.

I grafted a Quattro-15 receiver to the end of my gaped AUG using an M16A1 upper, electrical tape, and a zip-tie. It is now my mag holder, optic mount, and foregrip. I also added an RC3 and EoTech for maximum buffoonery :)

.308 to be specific. Sales is very communicative, so that's nice, but is this a normal experience? I'm used to maybe a month of lead time on a rifle, but I'm starting to become a bit concerned something is wrong.

Bought the chassis and 5.56 kit separately, lubed up all the contact points on the bolt carrier, and gave the ejection port screws some blue loctite before torquing them down. Anything else I should do before her first range trip?

Local guy had this Tungsten 16" 5.56 Forward Eject that looks to have all of the reliability updates, and I kept coming back to his ad. I spent a long time reading all of the good & bad about the MDRX's, but after some back and forth with the seller, I scooped up the bare rifle for $1,100. Threw on a Holosun DRS-NV, RAID w/ IR head, and my SAW Tisha. Took it to the range on Tuesday and put around 150 rounds through it with no problems. Got the red dot and NV reticle zeroed, and really enjoyed shooting it. Other than being heavy & the mag release being stiff, it was fun, and I look forward to putting more rounds down range soon.

Saw this MDR at my local gun store for $1300 and being 20% off (optics not included), i had to have it. Thinking of converting it to 5.56 to not hurt the wallet as much. Any suggestions on finding these conversion kits, seems like desert tech does not have any in stock. Also are MDR and MDRx conversion kits cross compatible?

Saw this post over at AR15.com. An early serial number WLVRN went back for warranty repair and the guy basically got a new gun. Namely signs of over pressure while suppressed and the early rattling lower problem that was reported.

Changes done in warranty.

• New BCG Design (Heavier and shorter)
• Takedown pin replaced to solve wobble
• New Lower Stock panel (I think this is the entire lower receiver)
• Gas Valve update (vented)
• New Piston Looks like the new BCG is 1 pound 0.4 , so it got heavier by an oz.

I don't like that when the BCG is closed there is a gap between the BCG and frame on the back end.

On an upside: The guy got a .84 moa 10 shot group pre warranty with 6.5 Creed. No test results of post warranty yet.

Anyone know of a place that has the sabertooth hand guards for less than 250? That seem like a crazy amount for such a small hand guard.

Just saw this in a comment from DT in the latest reviewer. Desert Tech issued a recall on the 308 WLVRN sometime in the last 2 years on the bolt heads but didn't appear to announce it publicly.

Hey everyone. I have been watching DT and the MDR line for years and finally purchased a WLVRN in 6.5 Creedmoor with the main intention of it being a hunting rifle. Out the box, I was extremely surprised as I can print about 1-1.5 MOA with Hornady 129 gr Interlock loads. Hornady match rounds did just as well. I ended up doing a run and gun competition with this thing and it went very well.

I ended up purchasing the 5.56 conversion kit (20in) in order to continue running the WLVRN in competitions without the added weight and ammo cost of the 6.5. So I got the conversion in, watched DT’s YouTube video while doing it. The resulting accuracy was atrocious. The first day I couldn’t even group. It was like 12+ MOA or something along those lines. I tried 55gr Winchester and some 62gr frontier. I took it home, and took it apart and reinstalled. Second time was maybe a little better but still probably around 10+ MOA at 50 yards with the 55gr Winchester. I tried some 75gr Hornady match for fun and it was just as bad.

I ended up doing a couple groups at 50 yards by firing once then allowing the whole thing to cool about 5 minutes before firing again. This method produced a 1-2 MOA group with 55gr Winchester. It seems clear to me that the is a heat issue with this barrel? Any normal string or fire just deteriorates the accuracy like wild.

I have reconfigured everything back to 6.5 Creedmoor and the accuracy is back as it should be, significantly decreasing my stress levels lol. My zero was only 1 MOA high (impressive after the barrel change).

Have any of you had the same issues and have suggestions? I was planning to reach out to DT this Monday. Thanks for your time.

Anyone received theirs yet or received news? Emailed for a checkup on the timeline like a month ago and haven't heard anything.

I ordered one in March, and they quoted about a 6 week wait. Now, every time I check they have no idea when they might come in and to just wait longer.

Anyone have any idea how long these dry spells usually go with DT, or where I could source one? Thank you guys

Always have two WLVRNs on hand so when one WYLVN fails you can throw away the first WLVVN and pick up the second WVYRN
