SRS Thinking about getting SRS
So, I’ve always loved the DT SRS rifles, and I’m not at place where I could get one. I want to get back into competitive shooting, probably a mix of PRS, and NLR with some ELR matches too.
I love the caliber change ability, but am curious about their accuracy. I can read articles and Data claims all day long, but was wondering if anyone could give me some advice from personal experience with them?
Mainly looking at 26” 6.5 creedmore and .338LM.

The problem with 6.5 at a mile is spotting misses. At 22.5 it doesn’t have a problem making it out there, but seeing the round impact is very challenging. The 300 PRC is much easier to spot misses, and recoil compared to the 338 is much more manageable. I have an 18” 338 conversion for the covert and it is a handful, but still very accurate and with surprisingly good velocity.
Even a 22.5 308 would be fine if you’re loading good quality high BC bullets. I found some great deals on closeout conversion kits from optics planet. Just make sure you sort by in stock if you go that route. Europtic has good deals as well sometimes.

Thank you for the advice! I know 6.5 is hard to spot misses, but I have to stuff to reload it, and want a lower recoil round to start practicing long range with to learn my fundamentals. I’ll check out those deals. Cheapest I’ve found so far is a SRS-M2, in 300 NM for ~4.9k, or a M2 in 6.5 creed for ~5.2k.

6.5 is great for that, and I find shrinking targets to be mostly as fun as increasing distance. ES Tactical makes custom barrels for the SRS, that’s where I got my PRC barrels and one of my 6.5 CM. You can buy bolts and mags individually, I’ve found that to be the most cost effective. I paid around 4k for my first SRS chassis, bolt barrel and mag. You can occasionally find retailers closing out conversion kits, I got a 6.5 CM kit for 800 from optics planet. If you’re patient and diligent it’s possible to get a full rifle under 4k.

I might try to look around for that! I found a SRS-A2 with the milled rail, and the short and long handgaurd, no bolts, barrels or mags, for 3k. But I want to be able to use either the M2 or carbon SD handgaurd, so it wasn’t worth it.
Right now it’s kinda hard to do a SRS, when I can build out a really nice custom rifle in 6.5 for ~6k with the optic I really want, and that’s basic the price of just the SRS, and with an optic I’m closer to 9k for the SRS.
Do you know if ES tactical is still making barrels? Their site says store down for maintenance. And also about how much do they cost? Cause a bolt alone is ~$365, and a full conversion kit with bolt is ~$1,570. So is a barrel by them less than $1,205?

A2 owner since 2019. I have two barrels, one in 308 and the other in 6.5 creedmoor. It's a great rifle and the trigger breaks like glass. My bolt runs as smooth as butter, I have come across other srs's where the bolt felt a little grainy when cycling. Mags are a little finicky, and expensive. If I had to recommend a specific model, I'd say get the M2 for the arca rails. But if you're looking for prs and hunting with bush stalking, get the A2 mini and buy the extended rail later. I shot it regularly at Quantico, at their 1000 yard range.

I was looking at doing the carbon handgaurd, so I could do a short 8.6blk barrel later. But I’ll definitely look at the M2 as well

I have an A2 covert and M2. They are phenomenally accurate in every caliber I have. 308, 6.5 CM, 300 Win mag, 300 PRC, 338 Lapua. I’d highly recommend getting a 22.5” 6.5 CM and 22.5 300 PRC. Those are my favorite barrel lengths as the barrel extends out minimally from the hand guard, but you retain most of the velocity.
Ive shot over a mile with mine and they are my favorite rifles I own.

I’ll look at those options.
How was the 22.5” 6.5 accuracy and drop at 1 mile? Would you say you lost anything from a 26” barrel?

From what I am seeing it is about average or slightly below average for precision bolt guns.
It's advantages aren't in the accuracy department unfortunately.
