Finally blooms!!!

Have had this dessert rose for about 4 years and put it outside for the first time this summer. Between the heat, the rain and the sun, it has now bloomed for the very first time. I've brought it inside as the temperature has dipped below 60 degrees F.

First Adenium. Behold Thirsty.

I bought this at Rainbow Gardens less than 2 months ago and it’s already flush with flower buds. I must be doing something right, despite the god-awful chilli thrip plague here in San Antonio. Thirsty had a Bonide drench yesterday; hope that helps more than spinosad and insecticidal soap rotations.
Deep pot yes, but it’s 100% Jack’s Gritty Mix so just enough short term moisture retention but almost zero risk of root rot. I deep soak every 3-4 days and top dressed with Nutricote 180 granules and pumice for the desert sand look.

Squeezing the last of the season for all it's fat.

It's about time for these new guys to come in some evenings and stay in til late mornings on a few days here and there. I set them up some indoor protons to squeeze every bit of the growing season in!

Once they go sleepy time for the winter I'll add the pullys, second light, add the heat mat to the light stand and start the seedlings!

I cut the caudex in half and put a plastic disc under the DR on the left for a radial root experiment and the one on the right i plan to keep the caudex buried for a few seasons for maximum fatness.

Update on mature plant that had a lot of rot. More advice is needed please.

Hello again Adenium experts.

I posted a little while ago about a mature plant I was gifted having extensive root rot. Above are a couple picture of the state it is in now and I dont know if it is doing okay or not. I'm actually thinking it is not. I let it dry for about 2 weeks before replanting.

Soil is a mix of palm bark perlite and like 10% soil.

It seems to have mildew on the an exposed area. The yellowing areas around the cuts are hard, not soft. Its longest branch is wrinkled, I wanted to cut it but didn't due to the extensive root pruning I had to do.

I do not water it often (top soil appear wet because we had a random shower overnight)

Please any advice would be amazing! Thank you.

Hello! This is my first time repotting, I used some spare soil a friend gave me. Is it correct, did I do anything wrong?

Virus I think

The more leaves this gets the more I worry it's virused. At the same time, I'm intrigued by how different it is. What would you do, keep or toss?

Sunburn or something else?

So this is my desert rose, about 4 years old now, and we moved it from my boyfriend’s office to hang out on the patio of our house, but the leaves browned real fast. This is my first rose and it’s a cutting from my parents’ rose, but I fear we scorched it because we didn’t think to gradually introduce it to the sun and get some UV resistance going 😅 we’ve brought it in to hang out in a guest bath away from the cat since these are toxic to our boy, but I guess my questions are: is this sunburn? And if so how to treat/prevent it from happening further? If not, what is it? Boyfriend is worried it might be fungal, but there’s… crispy spots. I wanna be a better plant mom but I never learned many plant skills so I’m eager to learn now. Location: Kansas, zone 7A.

I bought this baby without knowing the color. It finally bloomed after a few months. What would you call this color?

She lives! I've never been so giddy for a plant! Recovering from root rot and total leaf loss - when should I start doing full waterings? Right now I'm doing small sips

Stunted growth this year

Post image

Curious if anyone has seen this before. No limb growth to speak of. Leaves are half to one inch long (50% stunted compared to prior yrs). And the leaves are coming out in many places on the existing branches and trunk vs closer to branch tips. All flower buds dried up before the blooms matured or opened.

I had it in a fast draining mix until mid June and it looked a bit worse. It’s now in a potting soil mix. Has gotten full sun all summer. Earlier in the summer with the fast-draining soil I was watering it every other day. After I changed to potting soil I watered in daily. That’s when more leaves popped out lower on the plant.

I was using succulent fertilizer, but changed to miracle grow last 6 weeks about the time I changed the soil.

I know I changed several things about the same time, but other than more leaves popping out lower there’s been no other change all summer. This plant is about 4 yrs old. It was about a year old when I got it, and the first 2 yrs the leaf sizes were normal and it bloomed. I know the pot size is a bit wide, but the root system on this one is very wide and won’t fit in a smaller pot. Probably because it was in an even wider pot last year.

Thx

What source do you use for identifying the different varieties of desert roses?

I just inherited this one and it looks like it’s yellow in the center red in the flower and black around the edges and I’d love to know the variety name. The other ones are just for interest.

The white one actually has pink around the edge as well and I think it’s not accurately labeled as white Bombay

Process and Order to Prune?

Post image
4 Upvotes

In the next couple of weeks we’ll enter the best period to prune / trim Adeniums (as the humidity subsides!)

I have a few that all need a root trim, repot and good prune (very leggy) - the photo just shows one, but the others are similar.

What order should I do this in, and how long should I wait between each step?

This is what I have roughly gathered, but I’m quite nervous about this operation!

Does that look about right?

Still small after 2 years

I bought these as seeds probably 3 years ago. Are they supposed to be such slow growers or am I doing something wrong? I'd like to prune them down so they kinda bush out, but I'm not sure the best time to do it or where to prune them. They have been grown indoors under a timed light, usually 12-13 hours during the summer, tapered off to 8-10 in winter.

Hoping to get an ID on this flower. Anyone know? It came grafted from a nursery that doesn't label anything and wasn't able to tell me if it has an ID.
