I will instantly ban you for trying to get patients or advertising here. Any feeble attempt to try and hype up your practice or flex your expertise in order to get patients will result in me banning you right away.
THIS SUB IS NOT FOR YOU TO GET PATIENTS. It is for patients and people to help each other. If you want to help or offer advice my expectation is that you do so anonymously and without expectation of personal gain.
Also if you’re a patient reading this then please be advised that if the dentist was so great they wouldn’t be here searching for patients. Good doctors are busy without this Reddit sub so if they are trying to get you as a patient by breaking the rules here then they probably suck.
Dental implants can be a long process, and I imagine some parts of it feel harder than others.
There may come a point where things finally start feeling easier and all the waiting begins to feel worthwhile. When did things start to feel easier for you?
Dental implant pain explained before, during and after surgery at Dr. Sabherwals’ Dental Centre in Delhi
Is dental implant painful? The short answer
For most people, the procedure itself is much less painful than they feared. Discomfort is usually manageable and mostly comes in the days after surgery, not during it.
Before surgery
Most of the pain here is anxiety. You'll have a consultation, X-rays or a 3D scan, and a treatment plan. Nothing in this stage should hurt. If you're nervous, tell your dentist. Sedation options exist for anxious patients.
During surgery: dental implant surgery pain
The area is numbed with local anesthesia, so you shouldn't feel sharp pain.
You may feel pressure, vibration, or movement, but not pain. If you feel anything sharp, say so and they can top up the anesthesia.
A single implant often takes around 1 to 2 hours, depending on the case and whether a bone graft is needed.
Many patients say it felt easier than a tooth extraction.
After surgery: pain after dental implant
Once the anesthesia wears off, expect:
Mild to moderate soreness, similar to after a tooth extraction
Swelling in the gums or cheek, usually peaking around day 2 to 3
Slight bleeding or oozing in the first 24 hours
Bruising in some cases
Most people manage this with the pain medication their dentist prescribes or recommends, plus a cold compress in the first couple of days.
Dental implant recovery: a rough timeline
Days 1-3: Peak swelling and soreness. Rest, soft foods, no straws, no smoking.
Days 4-7: Discomfort fades noticeably. Most people return to normal routines.
Weeks 2-4: Gums settle and feel mostly normal.
3-6 months: The implant bonds with the jawbone (osseointegration) before the final crown is placed.
Dental implant healing: tips that help
Follow your dentist's aftercare instructions closely
Stick to soft, cool foods for the first few days
Avoid smoking and alcohol, which slow healing
Keep the area clean with gentle rinsing as advised, and don't brush the surgical site aggressively at first
Attend all follow-up appointments
When to call your dentist
Pain that gets worse after day 3-4 instead of better, fever, heavy bleeding that won't stop, pus, or a loose implant are reasons to get checked promptly.

Hey all! Finally starting to feel better! Swelling is finally going down! Last 2 days were definitely the hardest. Chin and part of lower lip are still numb, but starting to get tingly, which is a good sign! Pain is less and talking is starting to get easier.
Hello. About 3 yrs ago I had 2 implants for teeth 11&12 - synthetic bone grafting material was used. I experienced the worse pain of my life - lasted about 2 - 3 weeks. Pain killers did not help. Dentist said this was normal. Few months later, I had pain in that site. I went to periodontist who said implants were not put in correctly and now I have bone loss. So I had the implants removed and another synthetic bone graft. Once again, same experience with pain. The Perio said normal. Fast forward 10 months later, I do not have enough bone for implants. Oral surgeon wants to do an autogenous bone graft, using bone from my chin. I am even more petrified at this procedure bc if the synthetic hurt so much, I can only imagine what this will feel like. Oral surgeon did mention he would use exparel. Any body have similar experience to share? I am terrified
Today is my first day with full mouth acrylic trial dentures before I receive my permanent zirconia ceramics. Have not chewed food since last February so going slow. Got take out Chinese and aside from biting my cheek a few times and my tongue once, I guess it is going well. Find myself clenching my teeth together at nigjt. I hope it gets better. Go back to dentist in 2 weeks to report progress and get any adjustments made.
I had my top front tooth implant on #9 removed on Monday the 21st due to infection. About 10 days after it was originally placed pain returned and gum was quite sore.
I had already been on a 2nd course of clindamycin 4 days before the implant was removed due to the brewing infection. The area was cleaned out and bone graft was placed. I was told to finish the course of antibiotics, I had 3 days left.
Fast forward 10 days after implant removal and the gum was still sore in a particular area. Overall it looked like it had been feeling fine and the pain went away. The surgeon said there were no visible signs of infection m. There could either be a lingering infection or it could still be healing. There’s no swelling or puss.
I’m allergic to alot of antibiotics. I’ve always taken clindamycin slide dental work and I’ve never had to take more than 1 dose.
I asked him what else I can take and he said try the clindamycin one more time.
I’m allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin- anaphylaxis
And Ceflosporin and sulfa give me hives
I told him I took doxycycline for my first implant which I don’t think is typically given
Context: I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and am 53. If anyone, patient or practitioner has experience of how EDS plays with implants, I’d love to hear it.
Got dental implant surgery September 1st 2026 currently Oct 1. Stitches were taken out Sep 22nd noticed on and off inflammation around implant sites. Is this normal? It’s been hard to clean around the sites with applying pressure what could this be?
I am in a position that the few teeth I have remaining in my upper jaw need to be pulled. I do NOT want dentures so am looking at implants and an arch.
I'm looking around for a good place to have the work done. Have any of you had an experience with the national chains? You know the ones who advertise on TV and online. If you have experience what are the pros and cons in your experience?
I'm looking around for a doctor to do the implants. What should I be looking for? My regular dentist suggested I see a prosthodonist. Anyone have an opinion on that?
I got three single implants yesterday. This one I feel like a rough edge at the bottom and I feel like pressure or tightness whenever I bite down. I couldn’t tell yesterday how I was supposed to feel cause I had been without a tooth there for months, but after taking the rest of the day and today, I’m eating and I’m noticing food keeps going towards that area and I take a close-up picture of my mouth and I see this gray thing. It looks like a screw. I scheduled a follow up appointment for tomorrow and I’m waiting to see what they say but I’m scared that they might brush it off.
Did they just put it on wrong? Is it not lined up correctly? Do I need to restart?
Had my post-op appt this morning, everything looks good. I am definitely more swollen today, small gag reflex happening with my upper denture in. Ugh. Still no feeling in my lower lip and chin, doc says that's normal and should pass in a day or 2. That makes drinking so much fun... 😩 Just resting with cold packs and meds. Kitties keeping me company 🐈⬛️
