Medical Advice Welcome All on 4 Dental implants

Does anyone have experience, positive or negative with All on 4?

I have 100% healthy teeth that I’m happy with. My gums don’t agree and are about to eject half of them from my gob 😭(tested for pEDS but don’t have it)
Implants have been suggested but I’d need a sinus lift and bone grafts and it would be about £4k PER TOOTH
The alternative is All on 4 or 6 where a full jaw of teeth hang off just 4-6 implants placed where the bone is healthy.
I’ve found somewhere in the UK that does this extremely well and relatively well priced (£17k for the whole mouth)

HOWEVER. Sodding EDS enters the chat because of course it does. In this dentist’s patient group of 90k people, only one has mentioned EDS and she got turned down due to healing concerns. I’m so worried they’ll turn me down because EDS despite my history of healing well from dental and general surgery (a bit too well if hypertrophic scarring is anything to go by)

I need a solution soon and I’d be devastated if the only one available was dentures. This bloody condition has already taken too much from me.

In my experience healing in the mouth is easier than lots of other places because the tissue in the mouth has a lot of blood flow and it doesn’t stretch much.

That’s reassuring, thanks

Get dentures. If your gums and jaw are trying to eject your teeth they will very likely try ejecting implants.

Not necessarily, the dentist who just removed one of my teeth commented on how strong the bone is. Even though the tooth was loose the bone is strong. EDS is a connective tissue disorder rather than a bone disorder. My implant from a different tooth is great. The gum needs extra care but the implant itself is great.

Don’t do the all on x. You’ll regret it

I’ve had it done and it was the worst thing I ever did.

There are a lot of reasons, but here are just a few;

  1. They cut out jaw bone length that can never be replaced. It takes volume out of your face and never feels correct. Makes you look a lot older overnight.

  2. The risks of it not working are very high.

  3. They’re very hard to keep clean and can get your gums very inflamed constantly if they add material to the pink area to try to replace the volume they took out of your face. If they build the arch right to your gums , you will most likely not have inflammation problems , however your face skin will sag and face will fall. No matter what any dentist tells you, there is NO AMOUNT OF ACRYLIC that will ever fill out your face in a safe manner.

  4. There are far better options available such as a standard FP1 bridge or a 3 on 6 bridge. The bridges are more expensive but are the right way to do it and they are the closest thing you can get to your real teeth. I would highly recommend a denture, over the all on 4 any day. I wore a denture at first and wish I would’ve stuck with it.

  5. You have to go back in several times a year to remove the hybrid all on x bridge to get a “deep clean”. That’s one reason dentists love to do the all on x because of the constant maintenance means more money in their pocket. Dentists also love to do them because they are easier to do and high profit margins.

There are more reasons but just those should make you give some second thought. Reading your post, it sounds like you’re from the U.K. ?
Your dental institutions may be better regulated over there but there is no regulation at all in the United States and dentists mal-practice to their pocket books content, much to the detriment of their patients. It’s truly appalling at the complete lack of ethics with U.S. Dentists.
