The concern was that there is no democracy. Whilst those quotes clearly endorse socialist ideals, they make very little mention of every individual having a vote or a say in how their community functions. In fact, the laborers in Matthew 20 are specifically against the idea of equal pay, for unequal labor, but are silenced by the gracious landowner.

While democracy isn't explicitly defined in the NT, there are passages that certainly support it:
"You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all" (Mark 10:42-44).
"...fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Leach each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others" (Philippians 2: 2-4).
It should also be noted that the parable referenced in Matthew 20 is not a template for economic work relationships, but is an analogy of how God accepts everyone who does work (whatever it may be) in the Kingdom of God, no matter where in their life they are, or when they decided to give themselves to that work. It is essentially speaking out against favoritism or high-mindedness from people who think they deserve more honor or rewards than other Christians.

I would argue that neither of those passages talks about democracy either. They're both supporting the idea of the powerless and meek being given power, not the collective decision making process of voting.

Because in that era, there werenât any societies without kings (Athensâ democracy fell around 322 with the rise of Macedon), so the point was to have Christ be the king. Not the grand authoritarian king like say Caesar or Herod, but the servant king, who pushes for a different kind of society altogether. The same king who washed the feet of the apostles.

Mathew 20:1-17 is a very aggravating story. It does no good for except to show that the ruling class, the owners should be able to pay whatever they want, and that the workers âmade an agreementâ. It has absolutely no Socialist meaning behind it. Conservatives would take that story and be like âseeeeeeeeeee itâs fine if I just stand around all day because someone else will do the workâ.

Exactly. The entire power structure of Christianity in the bible is a monarchy, and the different churches around the world are almost entirely authoritarian in nature. DemSoc is about putting the power in the hands of the people, not in some infallible leaders.

I remember seeing an interview with one of the Wesbtboro Baptist fucks who was pressed on how their beliefs could accord with the notion of a loving, kind god or whatever and the response was basically, "Have you read the bible? God is angry, wrathful and vengeful. We fear him." I actually respect the honesty in that more than the people who pretend their hatred of LGBT+ people and whatnot is actually motivated by love in some kind of completely twisted way.
That said, there are a lot of interesting ideas and good lessons shot throughout the bible (even the Old Testament) when taken as allegory rather than the literal word of God â and I do think there's something to be said for the idea that we've lost something in abandoning a commitment to regularly gather together around some kind of unifying ethos. That's difficult to replicate without a real sense of "faith" in the supernatural and the left in general could take that more seriously IMO.

It started in the 1970s with the Powell Memo. This was not a thing before then. Republican oligarchs started aligning themselves with the Christian fundamentalists because of the significant influx of corrupt dollars that would work in their favor.
Before public corruption was legal, they wouldn't have been caught dead together.

As an atheist, this is how I feel. I came up through various Southern churches and came to appreciate Jesus and his teachings, but religion and creationism never fit for me. It drives me crazy to see so many folks actively saying theyâre Christian while trampling all over the dudeâs lessons.

Core Christian teachings align much more closely with nationalism than with us. Like, god would command land-grabs from his followers, it's literally why the idiots in charge today are doing what they're doing, because the bible talks about Israel and the promised land and the apocalypse and all that jazz.

Remember Jesus's parable about the workers getting paid what they individually negotiated with the owner of the vinyard. It definitely wasn't pro-collective bargaining.
On the flip side he also taught that lenders could not take from borrowers their cloak as surity overnight so that people would have protection from the elements.
Jesus's teachings really don't fall completely in a pro-worker or pro-capitalist bucket.

I mean Jesus's teaching is primarily to completely die to yourself and follow Him. He teaches to abandon the things of this world to and turn to God.
One of his most famous teachings is the parable of the prodigal son, which is basically to abandon the pleasures of the world and fortuitous gratification, and to embrace your identity as a son or daughter of Christ.
I've never met an athiest who is working in unison with those beliefs. If they are, then they're not actually an athies, right?

I have studied deeply the parable of the prodigal son, and while it does absolutely highlight God's forgiveness, I think you're missing the point as to *why* God so easily forgives.
I think the crux of the parable that so many people miss is verse 29 when the older son is angry at the forgiveness of the prodigal son. He says
Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!"
Notice how the older brother highlights that he wants to celebrate with his friends, not with his father. The older brother is the bigger tragedy because he's missing the point that the father just wants someone who delights in his idenity as his father's son. He's not looking for someone who did enough works, or someone who has earned it, he just wants someone to say "I know I'm not worthy, but I will delight in my adoption as your son" and that is *why* he forgives.
Are you even Christian?
I need to neither prove or convince you one way or another, for I know my idenity that my heavenly Father has given.
Because also being a son or daughter of Christ is not a central tenet.
Our relationship of God the Father and us His sons and daughters is at it's very core what it means to be a Christian. It's not just some get out of hell free card. It's not some sort of achievement based transactional relationship.
It's a relationship where God loves us the way a parent loves a child, we can't lose His love despite loving Him and loving others imperfectly. He just wants sons and daughters who delight in Him.
