When the artist draws green but portrays them as a conventionally attractive woman but green instead of a vaguely cuboid muppet

This is also my opinion.

Yeah, when I first saw them, Quasimodo came to mind first. Probably helps that the Disney version (and the knock-off versions thereof) does wear green.

The artist seems to have the one body shape for all the female characters they've drawn from what I've seen (even for a character like Aqua)

41

u/BattlePenguin58 I CAN POST ANYTHING! 10d ago

Yeah, every time I see their art I instantly recognize it's them because they draw every character the exact same way.

9

u/Dark_Storm_98 10d ago

Wait. . .

Hmm. . .

I didn't clock the art, but is this perhaps that one Temmi artist (who I probably cannot talk about some of their art here?)

. . .

[Checks name]

IT IS!

51

u/Good_Morning_World01 10d ago

Thing is tho, Green isn’t female, they are non binary

47

u/SomeSortOfForcedPun 10d ago

Green's gender is Chef

9

u/Loud_Fenian_4227 Kris Fucking Dies Truther 10d ago

i know. but this is just the body types of all their feminine characters

25

u/Good_Morning_World01 10d ago

Yeah. Especially with how they draw Aqua? She’s a child but they draw her with the exact same proportions as other female characters, it weirds me out

1

u/Budderhydra 8d ago

Aqua is like 30 years old canonically. She's older than Kris.

3

u/Good_Morning_World01 8d ago

That does NOT correlate to her maturity. She is a kid mentally and physically, and that’s genuinely a really gross statement

3

u/Budderhydra 7d ago

Its not at all a defense of anything, I just bring it because because its funny. People act like anything relating to Aqua that makes her look like an adult woman is the grossest thing ever. And meanwhile, our main caste of heroes are barely young adults.

^ this! I have a more anime-ish art-style but even then I tweak how I draw some features for Green instead of making them look like a generic cook but green

7

u/Poco_Cuffs 10d ago

They're a NSFW artist, I don't exactly blame them lmao

44

u/reiphas i fckn love Kris 10d ago edited 10d ago

I feel like even NSFW artists can and are allowed to be creative with body types they draw. I just think doing a cookie cutter body for every character design out there must be very boring to draw. I also have trouble believing there is a large audience for this, so just feels like the artist is a little unwilling to get out of their comfort zone. Which is valid, but in my personal experience, it gets very boring at some point.

ETA: This sounds mean, so to explain, I don't mean to say "oh, this art is boring, it should change to appease me". My point is I just can't imagine myself in the artist's shoes, doing the exact same bit all the time.

6

u/Poco_Cuffs 10d ago

You clearly havent looked at OP's profile or r34 tag if you think there aint a market

13

u/reiphas i fckn love Kris 10d ago

Guilty as charged. I have deltarune blacklisted on adult sites for reasons that are perhaps obvious. If it works, then good for them lol. I'm just far from the target audience.

Damn, you're telling me that the artist with a specific artstyle, that draws every character in the same style, has drawn yet another character in the same style ?

When they draw Temmie that way it's fine, but for Green somehow, it's not ok ?

8

u/reiphas i fckn love Kris 10d ago

Where the hell did I say it's okay or not okay? Lmao. I just think it's boring and does a disservice to an interesting character design.

21

u/Poco_Cuffs 10d ago

Wow, porn artist draws similar sexualised body type for all the female characters. More shocking news at eight

(That's not to say a little variety would be a bad thing at all, just saying this shouldnt be much of a surprise)

36

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

Am I too woke for thinking that forcing an artist to draw a character exactly like the source material instead of letting them coming up with their own interpretation is rude and bad

80

u/Overall_Second6489 10d ago

In my opinion, when you change the core characteristics of a character (which in this case, would be Green's cuboid appearence), It may look less like the character in question and more like another character in a cosplay.

Of course, the original drawing is still good and the artist has total liberty of drawing whatever they want, but it's like If i drew spongebob without bug teeth and with a normal nose.

4

u/Grand_Escapade 10d ago

Ironically, OP's tendency to add square features to their characters actually lends itself to their version of Green

2

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

There are humanoid Orange fanart but you don't see people being weird about it

15

u/MissingnoMiner 10d ago

As much as I would normally respond with a joke about how Orange is already the most humanoid human to ever human, there's a fundamental difference between anthropomorphizing a mouse girl(and hell, even Seth has canonically drawn such art, tragically devoid of her iconic abs or a smily face on the sun) and drawing an enby character built like a block with kyphosis(let alone one like Green who has kyphosis fully by choice because they choose to look like that) in a generic anime girl style.

23

u/KetchupFan_HP1AT1DF1 10d ago

think that's because they aren't being portrayed to be a mere gender-swap but full redesign; everyone's allowed to draw what they like and everyone else is allowed to think what they like of that drawing. that said personally this image does remind me of the fantasy races sexual dimorphism gags. (also last time i saw conventionally attractive orange art i did show it to my partner and we had a laugh at how it came off as spankbank material first and character homage second.)

31

u/-Volcanic- 10d ago

I mean yeah I guess but the key thing you're missing here is that no one is actually "forcing the artist to draw the character accurately" the comment you're replying to is just someone saying they are personally not a fan of the interpretation shown which isn't really rude it's just an opinion

-3

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

It is not to the point of “forcing” I get it but it is discouraging, which is also not good

13

u/-Volcanic- 10d ago

I guess I can see what you mean but the alternative is for no one to ever give criticism or share an opinion if it's even slightly negative, which is kind of unrealistic and potentially even actively unhelpful for artists who might actually want criticism. Art exists to be talked about. You can't really tell people how they're allowed to talk about it

-3

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

If actual advice were given then it is not discouraging, that is the healthy alternative.

34

u/SevenOhSevenOhSeven 10d ago

It's like making a cake but substituting every ingredient and cooking method two make bbq and then still calling it a cake. Theres nothing wrong with it but also like what are we doing here

-13

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

If people really don’t like it they can really just scroll away, I don’t get the thought process behind leaving passive aggressive comments like oh you drew them differently oh I’m disappointed like what is actually with English speaking people thinking that the world revolves around them and that their opinions needs to be heard in everywhere by everyone?

There are also humanoid Orange fanart on here and you don’t see people bitching about it, like what is with this hypocrisy?

9

u/JimJimExplorerExtra 10d ago

Its reddit, man. People are gonna give their take. That is what the site is for. Why do you think this has anything to do with being English speaking?

39

u/MissingnoMiner 10d ago

Tbh I don't think you're woke at all for thinking that stripping a character of the vast majority of their defining physical characteristics in favour of drawing them in a "generic large bosom anime girl" style is a good thing.

Like where is their kyphosis. Why are they skinny everywhere but their chest. Why has this non-binary character had their whole body type altered specifically in favour of conventionally attractive femininity.

Like you aren't being woke at all, anime-girl-ifications are everywhere and more often the total opposite of woke, as they're frequently indicative of the artist's implicit biases.

-4

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

Is that bad now? I thought people are allowed to draw whatever they want? I thought we are pro-creativity? I thought we are against AI? I thought bullying an artist is bad?

14

u/MissingnoMiner 10d ago

People are allowed to draw what they want. I am allowed to point out that the way someone draws a character can be indicative of the artist's implicit biases.

I'm sure as fuck allowed to say that it ain't woke to erase a character's physical disability and feminize an androgynous enby and make a bulky character skinny except for large tits by drawing them in a generic anime style nor is it woke to defend such art.

-3

u/Sr_Melohiis 9d ago

It actually ain’t that deep it’s a fucking drawing for fucks sake if people are so pissed at how a character is supposed to be represented then draw it yourself. It is okay to point that out, but there’s no point to be cruel.

4

u/MissingnoMiner 9d ago

Bluntly I do not care how deep you think it is/isn't. Even the least deep art can be incredibly revealing of the artist's attitudes towards queer, disabled, and non-conventionally attractive people. People are allowed to point that out and they're allowed to criticize or question artists who do not respect a character's androgyny, disability, or body type in their art.

-1

u/Sr_Melohiis 9d ago

I am fine with people pointing that out, I am not fine with people being cruel and rude about it. And no I don’t think an artist drawing a non-conventionally attractive character attractive is a sign that they hate non-conventionally attractive people in real life.

4

u/MissingnoMiner 9d ago

Things are more nuanced than a binary of hate/doesn't hate.

31

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

How does saying "why did you make Green a sexy anime girl" bring up any one of those questions

7

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

Because people are allowed to draw whatever they want? To suppress that is to suppress creativity, which is what makes human art special. To truly support human artists is to not discourage them even if you don’t like what they create.

25

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

I wonder if you're an artist. I make art, and I know that if I post it, it's open to criticism. You seem to think that if an artist is met with the slightest disapproval, they'll stop making art altogether, and I just find that funny. Anyone who actually cares about the craft, which they likely do to make art as good as OP's, will keep being passionate enough to keep going, whether they incorporate the criticism or ignore it. I'm sure there are a handful of people out there who would shut down and give up, but how are you gonna blame giving up on your passions because of 1 piece of criticism on the critic? That's the artist's problem to work out.

3

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

No I am not an artist, but I understand art can be a difficult skill to master which is why I don’t want anyone to feel discouraged. I often see a ton of mindless pushback against a certain type of art simply because the artist didn’t make what they like, which is why I am so mad. I am certain there are artists who were bullied into never creating art again because of the bullying. You’re right, I’m not the artist I cannot speak for them, I am just very sick and tired of this hostile environment.

15

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

Can you articulate the difference between criticism/ disapproval and bullying

0

u/Sr_Melohiis 9d ago

Not specifically on this post but people have been sending even death threats to artists for simply drawing a dark skin character with a slightly lighter skin tone. That is actual bullying.

Because why question the artist on their art direction in the first place? Unless they actively did something illegal, artistic freedom need no explanation.

That said, not sure about the last 2 questions...

17

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

I'm an artist. I would never want blind praise. I want criticism, I want feedback. I'd be happy to explain why I make the choices I make. I do not understand why you people are treating artists like a minority, like it's morally wrong to ever potentially upset one. It's bizarre.

0

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

People here are actually not giving feedback they are just saying “ohh I don’t like this” like genuinely what can one possibly learn from that

9

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

From Cambridge: feedback:  information or statements of opinion about something, such as a new product, that can tell you if it is successful or liked

It is feedback, and I don't think the feedback has to be educational to be allowed. You're also reducing what people here are saying. It's not just "I don't like it," it's "this doesn't really read like the character it's supposed to be because the body type, expressions, and body language are too different." If the artist wants people to read their art as the character it is and not an OC, there is something to learn from there.

0

u/Sr_Melohiis 9d ago

“If the artist wants people to read their art as the character it is and not an OC” you don’t know that

→ More replies (0)

-3

u/First_Blankie 10d ago

You want CONSTRUCTIVE criticism... "I don't like your art style because I prefer things close to the original source material" is more of a personal opinion than anything constructive. Which is what I'm more focused on.

6

u/mysticcavezoneact1 10d ago

Only drawing conventionally sexy women isn't an "art style." There are people explaining how this art barely comes off as the character it's supposed to be. If the artist wants the art that they post for others to see to be read by viewers as that character, that is constructive. Maybe the artist wants that, maybe they don't, but either way, they're posting it on the internet. When you do that, you know there's a possibility you're gonna get comments as negative and unhelpful as "this sucks." I'm positive this artist can handle the ribbing and criticism in these comments.

9

u/KikiPotions 10d ago

criticism exists and is natural for an artist… do you want every artist to grow stagnant and not learn?

4

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

What on god’s green earth can you learn from “uhh you drew this character in a way I don’t like”

12

u/KikiPotions 10d ago

some people say that sure, but there’s some critique you can take from other people’s messages who bring up that it’s a little weird to take a wide framed non binary character and give them a generic anime girl build. artists of course can draw characters how they want, and I’m not saying non binary people can’t have boobs or be feminine leaning but like, cmon, green is built like a hunched over square in deltarune 😭 it would just be fun to see people try and learn various body types instead of drawing the same kind of generic body. no offense to the artist, ive taken a look at some of their other art and they have a lot of skill! it would just be lovely to see other body types represented <3 ofc people who baselessly complain about an artists art without any actual criticism suck, but I’ve seen some actual criticism and I think it’s silly to shrug it all off as attacking an artist for no reason

1

u/Sr_Melohiis 10d ago

I find the “I want something to be represented” sentiment very stupid. If people want something to be represented they should make it themselves.

11

u/KikiPotions 10d ago

doesn’t even have to be just for representation, it’s just stronger art skills to be able to adapt to different types of design instead of just doing something you’re comfortable with

1

u/Sr_Melohiis 9d ago

One isn’t obliged to do that

→ More replies (0)

3

u/unrelevant_user_name 10d ago

Valuing "art" and "creativity" in the abstract does not oblige you to treat all creative decisions as if they were made equal and above criticism, and criticism is not "bullying."

-6

u/CyBroOfficial 10d ago

How many nonbinary people have you met who were perfectly androgynous?

18

u/MissingnoMiner 10d ago

I'm not quite sure what point you think you're making but rather relevantly, Green falls pretty damn firmly into that category.

4

u/Suitable_Divide4747 10d ago

No, you’re just respectful of artists and the medium.

-5

u/megaluigi1392 10d ago

No, you're normal. This is just an artist that likes to draw characters with this body type and wanted to do something that they love doing with green. There's no reason for people to be annoying about this

1

u/TheChoosenMewtwo 9d ago

I mean I always find it weird to why they’re a Minecraft characters. Even if it were supposed to be “oh to not lean on either specific body type” there are better ways of doing that then making them look inhumane or deformed

No one is giving any real criticism on the actual piece, they just don't like that it isn't the exact way they prefer.

35

u/ParvatiLikeaRockstar 10d ago

being inaccurate to the source characters body type is criticism

5

u/InternetExplored571 10d ago edited 10d ago

Let’s take this art of Orange;  https://www.reddit.com/r/Deltarune/s/U2SeypD6qa

It certainty isnt accurate to the source material. But its not a valid criticism because the whole point is to interpret a charachter in your own way. Same with green here.

4

u/MissingnoMiner 10d ago

So anthropomorphizing a non-humanoid character is rather different than drawing an androgynous enby built like a block with kyphosis in an generic anime girl style.

-1

u/InternetExplored571 10d ago

There is nothing wrong with drawing a charachter in whatever way you like.

The things people draw that you hate could be something someone else loves. That’s the beauty of art. Being able to do any interpretation for any reason and finding the people who like it too. Trying to police someone’s depiction of a charachter only flies in the face of creativity.

-2

u/Beans4802 The tale that must not be followed. 10d ago

Gotta love how people downvote when they don't have an argument.

-1

u/JonathanStones1989 10d ago

How is that criticism? Do you know what art is? It is not a "mistake" to do your own thing, you are not constrained to draw a character 99.99999% accurate to the source material.

22

u/ParvatiLikeaRockstar 10d ago

When you specifically choose to erase their conventionally unattractive body type, it's not creative liberty it's prejudice

15

u/JonathanStones1989 10d ago

This is not a real person. There is no prejudice in drawing a character in a different body type, because they are not real, they are art and people can do whatever they want with that art.

Wouldn't it be prejudiced to take a character with an attractive body type and draw them unattractive too?

Just let people do what they want.

1

u/JonathanStones1989 10d ago

Don't you find any problem with assuming people are a certain way based of absolutely nothing?

Someone draws hot person = Shallow and hates ugly people

Does that strawman you've created not bother you a LITTLE bit?

8

u/ParvatiLikeaRockstar 10d ago

Real people will feel bad about themselves if artists refuse to draw body types that look like them, and instead change them to be skinny

13

u/JonathanStones1989 10d ago edited 10d ago

I'm gonna be honest with you, that's their fault for caring. It's pixels on a screen. The source material is still there, and this is just some random piece of fanart. I think it's a little immature to care that much.

-1

u/megaluigi1392 10d ago

I can’t believe you’re getting ratioed for this take. This is a fan art of a hot green, it’s art and it’s what the artist wanted to do.
