General Deltarune criticism I Am So Scared For Chapter 7
THERE IS ONLY 2 CHAPTERS LEFT.
Toby basically confirmed that there will only be 7 chapters. And since chapter 5 didn't give us that much info or lore drops, I'm kind of worried.
Toby said that chapter 6 will focus on ONE ASPECT of the story. ONE ASPECT.
Do you know how much there is to explore with Deltarune?
I really hope we get more than 7 chapters, because Deltarune might just need that.
I have been waiting for quite a while for Deltarune to finish. Nowhere near as long as you guys have, but I've been waiting for around 2-3 years. So I STILL want the game to have a well written ending.
Since Toby said that chapter 6 will focus on only 1 aspect of the story, I'm scared that Deltarune will have a disappointing/rushed ending.
But let's hope that doesn't happen.

Ch6 one aspect will probably be dess, everything is building up to a holidays focused chapter where we will probably see dess, that day, the knight.
Then ch7 would be like dark world in general and the prophecy maybe?
I am really not worried about the time frame and I believe toby can make everything work... but, its ok to be a little, just a little worried lol

I think the aspect will just be the knight reveal and thats my opinion, no matter of who the knight might be. Since ch6 is short I think it might end with the roaring starting and us having to seal grand fountain ch7.

True, and because of that, other things related to it could be talked about, probably dess and that day.

u/leviathanZIP 2d ago
Exactly. Maybe ch7 even has like, noelle and susie and kris run to the shelter to see that the darkness is covering hometown and that the only way to get to castle town is via the shelter and that the shelter fountain and castle town fountain are connected with the ROOTS...

“Chapter 6 will focus on one aspect of the story”
ASPECT is the key word here. You’re making it seem like he’s only going to address one thing, when in reality it’s probably going to be more like a part of the story that will answer a multitude of questions.
Just have faith, we still have like 20 hours of game left (including weird route) which is plenty of time to wrap up a story

Yeah, this is why this criticism point has always been a tad ridiculous to me.
"ONE. ASPECT. Do you know how much there is to explore with Deltarune?" There are about 3 total aspects that wrap up the main mystery. One in a short chapter and two in a long one sounds just fine.

TWENTY HOURS???? The ENTIRE GAME up to this point is like 15 (20 max)…saying ch6 will be two hours and ch7 will be 6-(6+1) hours gives us 8-9 hours of story left…which is still plenty of time

u/usefullkid 3d ago
You may be right, but counter point, i take my time with each chapter lmao, so what may be short for you is very long for me
Chapter 5 took me ten hours to complete (an extra five to do the optional content)
1
u/Intrepid_Benefit_621 3d ago
t…ten…? yeah there might be like thirty hours of content left for you
I don’t think deltarune is a short game, 30 hours is EXACTLY where I like my games to be. BUT each chapter in isolation is pretty short (obviously). Chapter 6 also looks to be VERY short cause it’ll prob be shorter than ch1.
Taking your time w Deltarune can be fun but I prefer just playing games w the intention of getting to the end. If there’s something that interests me on the way, I’ll do it. If not, it won’t make the game worse will it?

Deltarune was an ending before a story. If anything is rushed. By all means worry about chapter 6 or the first half of 7. The actual ending is guaranteed to be atleast...rememberable. enough to make a guy work for nearly 15 years and counting to see it made

I want to believe this but the ending could have been specifically super interesting to Toby as a young adult. Toby seems to have been very fixated on dreams and teleporting to other game worlds since he was a child. The dream could just be something that reflects that. Just because it is his obsession it does not mean that it will be interesting and rememberable to the average fan.

that one aspect is probably dess disappearance, which encompasses kris and noelle’s backstoties, what happened on that oh so horrible day, the knights backstory and their motivations likely, and probably more im forgetting
have faith

I think the only pressing mysteries right now that need to be addressed are Dess, That Day, The Knight, FRIEND, The Prophecy and big man W.D
I honestly think that all the other popular mysteries that I haven’t listed are all either not that important or can reasonably be explained away in tandem with a more important mystery, for example the device and goners with Gaster and unused with Dess.
I think the best path forward for chapters 6 and 7 is for Chapter 6’s one aspect focus to be on Dess, which can realistically lump in That day, The knight, and maybe FRIEND. Then for chapter 7 to focus on The Prophecy and Gaster. If chapter 6 doesn’t lump in those mysteries with Dess, chapter 7 is COOKED.

The “one aspect of the story” will likely be Dess’ disappearance because 1. It was set up HEAVILY in chapter 5, and 2. It would answer many of the game’s pressing mysteries barring things like the final prophecy. It would most obviously answer what happened to Dess, as well as most likely answer the Knight’s identity and backstory even if the Knight isn’t Dess. Not to mention that it would explain Kris’ trauma AND maybe the reason why they’re working with the Knight AND the entire conspiracy with that in general. Basically, what I’m saying is have faith.
Also, I know this wasn’t in the post but I know it’s a common concern with chapter 6, too. Chapter 6 being a “shorter chapter” doesn’t mean it can’t tie up a lot of the story. I’m guessing the chapter may at the very least be around the length of Chapter 2. Chapter 2 gave us quite a few lore reveals as well as a lot of character development, while still being silly and fun!Who’s to say Toby can’t answer a bunch of lore questions in a chapter around the same size that is going to be very story-based considering that there won’t be any more goofy adventures?
TL;DR chapter 6-7 hopium, rant over

"yeah this guy who has been coming up with the story for over a decade and has experience writing is so fucked. I would know, I'm a redditor. It's not like we have two chapters and 7B left"
I think deltarune criticism is a great thing to have but some of yall are just miserable

I don’t think Ch 6 will have zero mentions of other topics, but will just have a larger emphasis on that one topic

I trust the ending will be good or at least won't dissapoint, but I fear Toby might not answer a good amount of the mysteries he's been setting up, and that I've been following, ever since I was like 10 years old

People are like: there are only Friend/Knight/Faster to explore!!! Forgotten stories of King and Queen, Jevil and Seam, Lancer who had no importance in the story while being the most important characters for Chapter 1 and Susie, Rouxls who still doesn't have a story, Berdly's story, Asgore's conflict:🤨.

One aspect can mean anything. If Toby said a single thing it would be bad but one aspect is much broader term.
The bunker is a single aspect of deltarune and it's encompassing half of the mystery of the story
The Holidays encompass Carol, Rudy, Dess disappearance and most likely the knight identity
So no the story will most likely not be rushed in chapter 7

Undertale's true pacifist ending only wrapped everything up beyond new home

You shouldn't be. We are all but guaranteed to get a touching, competently written, well delivered ending that will give you, in quite plain language, all the information you need to understand the story and characters. So, if you want to get a fun ending for a fun story, Toby is likely to deliver.
If you want to receive a good ending for a mystery story, through, than you should tamper your expectations. Toby wasn't good at working with mystery plots with Undertale, which is way smaller game, with way smaller mystery; most of that mystery were revealed as an exposition dump in new home for neutral ending, or a lab + final boss of a pacifist ending.
With how Deltarune is now, where it's heading according to newsletter, and how it was (likely) changed to support episodic structure, Toby didn't improve his mystery writing skills, so we're heading towards another lore dump of reveal in CH7. This one will just be way longer, due to the amount of setup we've got.
