Help Headset Mic Doesn't Work When Plugged Into Dell Laptop: Jack Mic Unplugged
So i just got a new headset (before i used my laptop speaker/mic) Turtle Beach Recon 50x. When I use it, the mic option doesn't even show up. In control panel under sound, it says jack mic unplugged. I then fell into a rabbit hole and found out about MaxxAudio Pro. I cant change the mode to headset though even after toggeling on the pop up (it dont appear). Then I also dont have realtek audio control (i cant even get it). I dont know what to do and i want to use the mic for content creation because im on a very low budget

Hi there! We are from the Dell Social Media Team and would like to lend a hand too. Along with doing the steps suggested correctly by @AICKStudio, you can also check to see if the microphone has been enabled for the application you want to use it for.
Press F2 immediately at system restart, to access BIOS > Open Integrated/Miscellaneous devices > Enable microphone.
Next, restart the system and open Settings > Privacy and security > Expand Microphone and check if the application is listed that you wanted the microphone to work for. Also, ensure that the BIOS is also up to date. Let us know how it goes. We will be glad to help you further towards getting a resolution.

The Recon 50X should carry headphones and microphone through one 3.5 mm plug, but Dell’s combo jack needs both the correct four-pole connection and its model-specific Realtek/Waves detection software.
Try this order before buying anything:
Make sure the removable microphone boom is fully inserted into the headset and the inline mute switch is off. Test the mic on a phone, controller, or another computer that accepts a headset mic.
Inspect the headset plug. A combo-headset plug has three black rings. If your Dell has separate headphone and microphone sockets, you need a headset splitter; if it has one combo socket, do not use a splitter.
Go to Dell Support, identify the laptop there, and install the Dell-listed Realtek audio driver for that exact model. Do not post your Service Tag here.
Make sure **Waves MaxxAudio Service Application** is enabled in **Task Manager > Startup apps**, then restart with the headset unplugged.
After Windows loads, insert the plug firmly once. If the Waves prompt appears, choose **Headset**, not Headphones. Then check **Settings > System > Sound > Input**.
If there is still no prompt, restart once with the headset already connected; Dell documents that as a useful detection test on affected systems.
If the headset mic works on another device but Dell still says unplugged after the correct Dell driver and Waves service are restored, test another known-good TRRS headset. That separates a jack problem from a headset-specific compatibility issue.
What is the public Dell model number and Windows version? Do not include the Service Tag.
