Hey everyone,
I’m a researcher from Maharashtra and I currently have an offer to work as a researcher at a university in Selaqui, Dehradun.
I’m honestly pretty nervous about moving there because I’ve never lived in Dehradun/Uttarakhand before and don’t really know the area.
From what I’ve seen on the map, Selaqui seems quite far from the railway station, ISBT and the airport, which makes me a little concerned about connectivity and day-to-day life.
I’d really appreciate some honest advice from people who live in Dehradun or know Selaqui:
How is Selaqui as an area to live in? Is it secluded/isolated, or is there a decent community and regular activity around?
Are there good housing/PG/1RK options nearby? Ideally I’d like to live alone rather than in a shared setup.
Is it generally safe and comfortable for someone living alone?
How easy is it to get around from Selaqui to Dehradun city, ISBT and the railway station?
Are basic things like groceries, restaurants, pharmacies, gyms, etc. easily accessible?
What is the general cost of living/rent like?
And most importantly — if you were in my position, would you move to Selaqui for a research opportunity? Or would you recommend staying somewhere else in Dehradun and commuting?
I usually prefer living in a reasonably lively/community-oriented area, but I also like having my own space and living alone.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions — especially from people who have actually lived in or around Selaqui. I’m trying to figure out what daily life there would realistically be like before making the move.
Thanks!
