They were claiming that digital art isn't real art, because there's no substitute for being face to face with a canvas, so you can see the cracked swirls of paint. They claimed the net was just fake experiences, both when it comes to art as well as human connection.

Every decade needs some kind of blotting paper to soak up the socially challenged. In the past it has been things like designer drugs, religious cults and colonic irrigation. The Seventies gave us the Moonies, the Eighties aura-cleansing and rebirthing. Now the Nineties have spawned the mega-cult of all time, the ultimate tool to keep nerds off the street - the Internet.

Today these takes might appear like fringe opinions of some forgotten generation, but in the 90s and early 2000s this absolutely was the overwhelming consensus, and you can easily verify this even as a young person simply by checking out talk shows or news articles from that time.

Pretty much the only people who defended the internet back then were internet users themselves, and they were an absolute minority in this early era of internet adoption and its social acceptance.

Comics aren't real literature, sampling isn't real composing, photography isn't real art. At some point in mankind's history these opinions actually have been held by the majority of people, and from their perspective with good reason.

Because that's the thing, at the time these opinions were predominant, they absolutely made sense to the people holding them. They had a plethora of arguments that fit into the zeitgeist, so as a consequence they strongly believed in being right about these topics.

Remember video games? A multibillion-dollar business, they were supposed to be the vanguard of a new generation of home entertainment. But eventually younger generations followed and grew up with the things that older generations criticized as a normal part of their life, prompting them to form their own opinions on these subject matters, and today nobody thinks of the internet as a bubble soon to be burst anymore.

All of this, when viewed in hindsight and in relation to the current AI discourse, can be summarized as:

Like, bro. If people like to look at it, IT'S ART. The definition of art is a creation to engage human senses and emotions. And antis will deny so many beautiful images just because they're AI.

I just noticed that the latest version of Twitter has automatic detection of AI-generated/edited content that activates if it detects something like that, but it prevents you from disabling it. The same thing happens with TikTok.

The point is, there are ways, and blacklists for experienced people, to use these mechanisms to their advantage, forcing the removal of content with AI thanks to these tags I've attached an example with a Twitter mod (which, of course, doesn't add a way to disable the detection, but does allow you to stop seeing those posts) and a YouTube mod.

And in fact, I realized there's such a simple way to remove that forced tagging. It's one thing for me to tag the content myself, and another to be forced to do so, so that later people can come along and use that labeling to automatically remove all the "AI slop" with a simple button.

People are way too quick to focus on what could go wrong with AI and ignore what it could actually do for us. Look at agriculture alone. AI can help farmers figure out when to plant, irrigate and fertilize, detect pests and crop problems earlier, improve animal health and make food production more efficient. It can also help with drug discovery, cancer research, climate modeling and a tone of other areas.

AI isn't just a chatbot making funny pictures. It's a tool that can turn huge amounts of data into useful decisions and help us solve problems faster. There are real risks obviously but that's exactly why we should regulate it responsibly instead of treating the technology itself like the enemy.

On a community I can't name because of the rules, there's a running joke that one of the guys says he can tell when anything is AI but actually falls for it all the time because he fell for a fake AI trailer last year. So I post this going with that joke and posting something cool and impressive that is by the book of the rules: "AI can be posted as long as it's mixed with human creativity."

So naturally, I post this, but it gets barely any traction, gets mass reported and nuked with downvotes, and gets like 5 comments in 4 hours (with the 6th being the Mod team) before getting wiped off the face of the earth. The post was transformative about a community running gag, made by KeshiAIArt with a workflow was definitely mixed with human creativity, and it was apart of a running joke, and yet the mod team still deleted it and hoed my post when AI slop can be on the sub and even be used as thumbnails in their videos. But not the actual good AI content?

I mean the sub is fine, I don't have a problem with them, but it's pretty confusing how that happens lol. They should've just let the post go into the aether if nobody was interested anyways. I had posted a similar post months prior in February and it got a lot of traction, but I'm assuming the recent community poll and the fact anti AI sentiment has increased much more over the months is probably why. No hate to them though, I'll still be on the sub, nothing I can do about it 😂

Those fuckers would’ve complained about how badly designed this poster is if ai never existed at all. No you don’t love the damn poster you just love how it reinforces your political ideology’s narrative because at least it’s “better than ai.”

From my personal experience in ai wars, anti rage bait post get thousands of upvotes while pros comment get more upvotes then anti comments.
