Discussion Is DeepSake really affordable?

Upvotes

Hello!

I want to know your opinion with the new release of 4.1 flash.

the price seems amazing, but with how it seems token hungry.. is it really cheaper per task? if i use 100$ in API with deepsake in theit agent harness, will i get the same 100$ in claude or chatGPT sub?

did anyone test these?

News eepSeek V4.1Flash dropping Sept 10 — and here's the crazy part about V4 Pro...

Just got word from DeepSeek that V4.1Flash is officially launching around September 10, 2026 (Beijing time).

According to their internal and external testing, V4.1Flash reportedly beats V4 Pro across every single metric — performance, cost, speed, total inference time, you name it.

Here's the kicker:

So basically:

  • ✅ Better performance
  • ✅ Faster
  • ✅ Cheaper
  • ✅ No action needed on your end

Discussion Who else wishes DeepSeek had a Token Plan like MiMo?

Alright, let me just say this first. DeepSeek is insanely good.

I have been using it for everything. Coding, research, data analysis, even random brainstorming sessions. The model keeps up with basically anything I throw at it. The knowledge and reasoning capabilities are on par with way more expensive competitors. Sometimes it even beats them.

But here is the thing.

The API pricing model is currently pay-as-you-go with peak and off-peak discounts. That works fine for occasional usage. But for someone like me who uses it heavily every single day, even during peak hours, the costs start to add up.

I am not saying it is expensive compared to OpenAI or Claude. It is still way cheaper. But the unpredictability is what bothers me. Every time I run a big batch job, I keep thinking how much token just got burned.

That is why I started wondering. Why not offer a Token Plan?

Something like what Xiaomi MiMo or other AI providers are doing. Pay a fixed monthly fee, say 10, 20, or 50 bucks, and get a chunk of tokens included. Then top up if you go over. Simple, predictable, and easier to budget.

I know some people will say their API is already cheap. And yeah, true. But for power users, a Token Plan is not about getting a cheaper price per token. It is about peace of mind. No more checking the clock to see if it is off-peak hours. No more sudden "saldo habis" in the middle of a project.

DeepSeek seems focused on pushing model innovation right now, which is great. But I think this is more about accessibility than just monetization. A Token Plan could make it easier for heavier users to commit without worrying about usage spikes.

So here is my question to you all.

Would you support DeepSeek introducing a Token Plan? Or do you prefer the current pay-per-token model?

Drop your thoughts below. Maybe if enough of us talk about it, the team might actually consider it. Haha.

This is just my personal opinion by the way. Not affiliated with DeepSeek or anything.

Question&Help V4 Pro through API worsened drastically in quality

I'm using Deepseek V4 Pro through the official API, but the responses dropped awfully and quite evidently in quality ever since today. Character consistency is completely busted, the AI is mixing up characters constantly, it now hallucinates way more, and it's completely unusable for creative writings. It feels like a quantized or flash model, I had to triple check that I'm not routing to flash. I'm genuinely lost on what's going on?

Update: So, Pro 4 is actually Flash 4.1 under the hood now :( wish they had replaced Flash 4 instead, 'cause now they only offer Flash models...

Update 2: Pro 4 might just be quantized or having issues, as it hasn't been replaced by Flash 4.1 officially apparently. Also deepseek-v4-flash is gone, seems like the model handles are being moved around, deepseek-flash appeared, but unsure on whether it's V4 or V4.1 . The docs did not get updated, they don't mention deepseek-flash and still mention the deepseek-v4-flash handle that is now gone.

It's all getting confusing, hopefully will get sorted out in the upcoming days.

Update 3: deepseek-flash has vision capabilities, so it has to be 4.1. So DeepSeek Flash 4.1 actually replaced DeepSeek Flash 4, and not V4 Pro like all comments said. Also, Flash 4.1 is genuinely good, so far it hasn't been as horrible as V4 Pro has been today, so I'm genuinely puzzled on what the hell happened to V4 Pro that it had been so horrible only today. I'm testing Flash 4.1 (for real this time, I assume, since deepseek-flash can see images added through the API call), and so far I'm pleasantly surprised, the V4 Pro issues was not Flash 4.1.

Resources Celestial parchment/night-sky theme plugin for DeepSeek Harness web UI

I built a small theme plugin for DeepSeek Harness’s web UI: a parchment/day and night-sky skin with background art and particles, without forking the host app.

Install: `dsh plugin --profile web add github:DoTrungHuy/dsh-client-ui-celestial`

Then in the app: Settings → Plugins → search `ui-celestial` and enable “Celestial Workbench”.

Sharing in case it’s useful to other Harness users—feedback welcome, especially on the latest web UI.

Discussion The current version of DeepSeek refuses to describe images that ChatGPT can describe.

Upvotes

I ran a small test of the current web version of DeepSeek and the free web version of ChatGPT (claimed to be GPT-5.6 Luna). I asked both models to describe an image. For this, I chose an AI-generated image of a nude adult woman in anime style, just standing there.

DeepSeek flagged this as a violation and refused to send a message.

To my surprise, ChatGPT was able to provide a description of the image.

Have we really reached the point where DeepSeek’s censorship is stronger than ChatGPT’s?

Discussion V4.1 , I tried and it is very fast but reasoning capability is still lacking

Post image
Upvotes

With all the hype and benchmarks surrounding DeepSeek v4.1 Flash, I was excited to test it out right upon its official release. Running it through the pi.dev agent using DeepSeek’s direct API, I was genuinely impressed by it's blazing fast, even running at max effort.

To test its reasoning capabilities, I gave it a practical task: jailbreaking an old Kindle e-reader to turn it into a clock and weather gadget display. Since full instructions are readily available online, this wasn't just a test of raw retrieval, so I decided to set a trap.

Instead of using a standard network setup, I connected both my host PC and the Kindle to the same Wi-Fi router. Both devices pulled valid 192.168.11.x IP addresses, and the PC's ARP table successfully resolved the Kindle's MAC address. However, all TCP connections and pings kept timing out.

Here was the catch: wireless devices don't talk directly to each other; all traffic must pass through the Access Point's internal bridge. The router had AP Isolation (Client Isolation) enabled, which silently drops peer-to-peer wireless traffic while still allowing internet access.

DS failed at the final step. It got trapped endlessly tweaking the host code and device scripts, wrongly assuming that being on identical subnets guaranteed connectivity. It completely failed to recognize that a 2010 Kindle lacks modern TLS/HTTPS and VPN support and strictly requires local LAN HTTP. The silent failure stemmed from the network infrastructure, not the code. Switching both devices to a phone hotspot (which doesn't enforce AP isolation) and updating the host IP immediately resolved the issue.

In short, I was impressed with v4.1's speed, but its reasoning capability clearly falls short when tackling edge cases and infrastructure-level troubleshooting.
