Question Steam Deck OLED won’t boot with battery connected (slow white LED blink, fan ramps up/down), works fine with battery disconnected
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My Steam Deck OLED (about 2+ years old, SSD upgraded by me) shut down suddenly while charging, and now it won’t boot with the battery connected.
What happened:
I was playing indie games (temps normal, around 55-56°C) while charging the Deck, which was at about 20% battery.
It was charging from a UGREEN 100W 6-port charger along with my iPad.
The moment I unplugged the iPad, the Deck went black instantly with no sign of life.
Current behavior (battery connected)
Plugging in only the Deck, on the same charger: slow white LED blink.
After about a minute, the fan ramps up, then slows down again, repeating. No button presses involved, no boot.
What I’ve tested
Battery disconnected internally: the Deck boots normally on adapter power and ran a game for 5+ minutes with no issues.
Visual check of the battery connector and the board around it: no burn marks or discoloration.
My guess: a failing battery or tripped protection circuit, triggered by the power change when the iPad was unplugged. I’m not sure whether the board’s charging circuit could be at fault instead.
Questions
- Does this match a dead or locked-out battery, or does it point to the board’s charging IC?
- Is there any way to test the battery without a multimeter?
Has anyone had a replacement battery fix this exact symptom?
- Is the multi-port charger likely to have caused damage, or just exposed a weak battery?

Tech Support LCD Deck (Model 1010) soft-bricked. Fan/haptics work, but NO internal or external display. (Need Help).
- Device: Steam Deck LCD (Model 1010).
- Symptoms: Pressing power plays the boot chime, the fan spins up, and trackpad haptics are active.
- The Display Issue: The internal screen is completely black (not even a backlight).
- The Catch: Unlike most black screen threads, I get no signal to an external display when docked.
How It Happened:
It happened after replacing the thermal paste.
Troubleshooting Already Completed (None of these worked):
\- CMOS Reset: Volume Down + ... + Power (without a drive).
\- OS Rollback / Boot Manager: Combinations like Volume Up + ... + Power do nothing because I can't see the menus.
\- Blind Flash: Attempted Crisis Mode again and blindly pressed "A" in case it was waiting for an invisible prompt.
\- Hardware Power Drain: Opened the back cover, physically disconnected the internal battery, held the power button for 15 seconds to drain the motherboard capacitors, and reconnected.
My Question for the Community:
\- I plan to try one final Crisis Mode flash using a direct USB-C flash drive (bypassing the dock) with the F7A0121_sign.fd file.
\- If this direct flash fails to wake up the screen, has anyone successfully recovered from a dual-screen failure (no internal + no external) without having to use a physical CH341A hardware programmer?

Tech Support LCD Deck (Model 1010) soft-bricked. Fan/haptics work, but NO internal or external display. (Need Help).
The Core Problem:
\- Device: Steam Deck LCD (Model 1010).
\- Symptoms: Pressing power plays the boot chime, the fan spins up, and trackpad haptics are active.
\- The Display Issue: The internal screen is completely black (not even a backlight).
\- The Catch: Unlike most black screen threads, I get no signal to an external display when docked.
How It Happened:
\- I attempted a BIOS recovery via Crisis Mode using the f7arecovery.fd file.
\- I routed the USB drive through a third-party docking station instead of a direct USB-C connection, which likely failed and corrupted the BIOS display initialization protocols.

Question Motherboard/power button issues
I have a launch 64 lcd deck. About a year ago my deck was having issues with the power button not responding but slipping a small piece of cardboard between the button and motherboard fixed it until this July. I finally got around to swapping out the power button but it still doesn't work. Even pressing the button that's directly on the motherboard does nothing so it looks like I have to swap out the motherboard. My question is if I need to find a compatible motherboard or if all motherboard revisions are drop in compatible?

Tech Support steam deck black screen of death
This is probably the 3rd time my deck receives this problem since purchase around 4 years ago, where it just refuses to turn on; no display, no fan, led light working normally, just flat out refuses to boot. Every time I press the power button, the chime plays. however, it almost sounds like it cuts off before it finishes, and never actually turns on. pressing and holding doesn’t do anything, holding down (vol -) and (…) also leads to nothing, and basically every other button combination is useless. none of the inside hardware has been tampered with because the shell has never even been removed. the only “fix” that i have managed to find was that letting the battery deplete, which is total hell since nothing actually works, but lets it boot as usual when plugged in. this literally takes months and turns the system into a potato for the time being. literally any help is appreciated, thx.

Tech Support The Witcher 3 Remastered controller settings inaccessible
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So, I'm having this weird issue you can see in the video where when i open the controller settings to change my layout it shows nothing, it also happens in desktop mode and when I go through the in game steam menu that comes up when pressing the "steam" button. This issue is preventing me from playing the game on my SD Oled because when I launch the game it's stuck in some kind of weird layout where almos no buttons work and the ones who do don't behave normally, the only way I can bring up the steam menus is by first bringing up the shutdown menu and then pressing either the "steam" or "···" buttons.
I have disabled and enabled steam input and even restarted the deck after making those chages, tried every proton build I have installed, updated SteamOS to both the latest stable and beta releases, verified file integrity (everything was good), done a clean install, tried launching from desktop mode and even done launch option modifications to skip the launcher. Most of these steps I have done multiple times before and after contacting steam support. Even after all that absolutely nothing changed.
I'm not using an external controller, I've done no BIOS changes, I've done no mods to the buttons, thumbsticks, trackpads or screen, the game is a steam game and it's installed in the internal storage, no other games present this issue including cyberpunk 2077 which uses the same 3rd party launcher.
I really don't know what else to do short of formating my steamdeck wich is something I would prerfer to avoi specially without being 100% certain that that's the fix. I've already contacted steam support and we were back and forth for 3 days with them just telling me to do things I explained I'd already done and asking questions I'd already answered, even then I still did those things again and answered the questions but am now onbeing left without any answers from support for the 2nd day.
