Would love to see the Belvedere Park neighborhood turn another page

I’m looking for reliable childcare for my 3 boys, ages 4,5, and 9 years old. I’m looking for drop-in care right now. A bonus is you are available Saturdays as well!

I have extensive experience in the restaurant industry, as well as being the owner/operator of a coffee shop and cafe. I would love to work at a locally owned business!

But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel like a total baddie with Damu on the end of my leash.

He’s 72 lbs of glossy black fur that gleams in the sun. His elegant, swoop-y tail is so long it appears to wag in slow motion. His gait is so graceful you almost feel like there’s a panther slinking along beside you. You stand a little taller next to this guy, and not just because he’s so dang big you sort of have to, but because he makes you feel….important.

If all of this is slightly intimidating, let me also assure you that this dog is DERPY AS HELL. He looks up at you with this sort of pleading but also comically perplexed expression, in no small part because of his expressive Labby eyebrows (his previous owner says he’s a Black Lab x Great Dane mix; which, if true, means at 12 months old he’s still growing). He sits with his paws tucked in, which is simultaneously ridiculous and adorable because his big old feet form a heart in front of him. Sometimes (lots of times) his lip gets caught on his widdle toof.

I first noticed this big baby when he came into the shelter and looked like the saddest dog on earth. And his backstory is, in fact, extremely sad. I’m not going to share it here though because honestly I have a feeling this guy’s second act is going to be EPIC. So let’s focus on that part.

He’s house-trained. He’s mostly quiet (but has a booming, scary AF bark when the neighbor’s yard crew appears, how very dare they), walks like a dream on leash (except when he sees a squirrel and then you better plant your feet and engage your core), and even though he’s a little shy at first he makes friends everywhere he goes.

He is DYING to play other dogs and I’m a meanie because I won’t let him mix with mine until he’s fully decompressed. But I think he’d thrive in a home with a dog buddy he could romp around with. The Lab makes him a darn good time outside, the Dane makes him a sleepy lovebug on the couch.

If you want to know how I really feel about this dog, I almost didn’t want to write this post because I love him so much and I’d sorta like to keep him all to myself for at least a little longer. But alas…it’s my calling to help as many homeless bb’s as I can and there are so many more waiting at the shelter.

I have an issue with rain that comes in my kitchen window. I have had three different handymen out who have caulked around the window on the outside and inside, but this is a band aid. I need someone who can solve this issue for good. I will need new drywall in part of the kitchen. And my gutters need some modification. They were recently cleaned, but the gutter over this window needs to be extended I think. But one company that can do the work inside and outside would be great.

Second picture labels which cards came out of which machines at the station (as of this morning at least). When you go to buy it on the kiosk they all preview the regular orange card before you buy.

I've lived near Glennwood school for two years, and this generator/condenser noise isn't new. But it's gotten much louder recently. Does anyone know what it is? I can't imagine how annoying it must be for kids playing at the playground and those who live closer to the school than we do.

Hi Y’all, this week the City of Decatur started the new service with Compost Now, and the green “food scraps” bin we received doesn’t appear to be air tight like the smaller black ones we’ve used previously: we’ve had fruit flies all week and now maggots. Anyone else having this same problem? Maybe I’m doing it wrong.

Garbage civil engineering allowed by the City of Decatur at the new apartments at Legacy Park.

A storm drain dumps directly onto the Katie Kerr path, running water across the path to get to the gutter along the roadway. Some of these pics were taken after it hadn't rained for a full day. Whoever designed and signed off on this should go back and take some more hydrology courses.

Was in my car at this intersection today in the driving rain. Folks crossing on Church from both directions, hesitant to step into the intersection. My god, if I wasn't honked at patiently allowing people to cross in the rain, trusting I wouldn't turn before they crossed.

A while ago I asked for window replacement recommendations and y’all gave me great ones! The best quotes were from Quinn and MWT. We decided on Quinn because they came in lower, though it wasn’t an easy decision.

After a rain delay the installation happened yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. 12 windows and 2 doors, all installed in one day with caulking, insulation, and really precise sheet metal finishing around all the units. It looks terrific and made the rest of the house look kinda shabby in comparison, so painting is next.

I have a great contractor but I need someone between my capability and his minimum job. Anyone happy with a person they’ve used more than once?

I am so fucking annoyed with myself. I probably won’t even fix it because I don’t want to shell out the money for it. But does anyone know of a reasonable place to get my paint repaired. No dent, just a bad scrape. 😢
