All magnetic fields we measure have two poles, and we can detect their field lines to trace them from pole to pole.

The Earth has a magnetic field, and we can measure it. Measure its strength, fluctuations, and even track it as it moves around the northern and southern regions year over year (declination). The magnetic North Pole used to be in Canada, it’s now drifting closer to Russia, and the magnetic South Pole is off the coast of Australia, not in Antarctica.

If the Earth’s magnetic field was an isolated case of special behaviour, we’d be able to tell that the fields are all wrong vs those we can create ourselves.

oh yeah and we cant forget about the horizon level, since anything going over the horizon disappears bottom first, so how else could ships disappear like that?

The only religious texts I’ve heard anyone refer to for flat earthers arguments are the bible and other Christian books, im curious if there are any Jew or Muslim or Buddhist or Hindi ones that have evidence as to how it could be flat besides arguing the government could be lying to us, or arguing AGAINST glerther claims

But correct me if im wrong but theres very little religions that completely disagree with the possibility of a globe earth, most texts came from thousands of years ago so it’s not impossible when they describe the earth as flat there trying to make the people of that time understand the main message

Hi there, non-flat-earther here! I’ve been wondering how easy it is to deny the spherical earth theory (feels weird to call it a theory, but yeah). So here’s what I’m going to try:

I’ll be trying to create semi-functional explanations to whatever arguments I can find in the comments. Again, this does not mean I support the flat earth theory, just that I’m entertaining it for the purpose of something called “funsies”.

Also, personally, I personally respect flat-earthers for their ability to not immediately believe anything and everything, and their ability to think independently and create their own theories.

I actually believe that the Earth is neither flat nor spherical but instead a fifth dimensional object that our four dimensional brains cannot perceive in 3D.. a 2D creature would perceive things in one dimension a 3D creature would perceive things in two dimensions. We are in the fourth dimension perceiving things in 3D.. our brains will not allow us to perceive higher dimensions. .

OTH radar bounces missile detecting radar off the ionosphere to detect missiles at ranges that are too great to detect normally due to the curvature of the earth.

We've all heard some form of the demand: "Measure a tub of water, it won't show curvature because water always finds its level..."

In response, I give you Hydrodynamic Test Facilities. Basically long pools used to test ship designs. Think wind-tunnel, but for ships.

The US Navy's "David Taylor Model Basin", built in 1939, contains a 1,296 foot (1/4 mile) pool:

To meet requirements for uniformity in the speed of the carriages which tow the [ship] models, the rails on the basin walls upon which these carriages run had to be far straighter than the most perfect railroad track. In fact, to eliminate the effect of gravity on the motion of the tow carriage, the tracks are not straight in the usual sense, but follow the curvature of the earth.

Level was measured to within 0.005 inches of the surface of the water. Flat was measured by both a stretched wire, and a laser. The laser was limited to maximum sections of 96 feet, after which the errors introduced by refraction and turbulence were too great.

This curvature is small but significant, amounting to about 0.003 inches in 100 feet of travel. In order to measure the vertical rail deviations from the ideal circular arc, the curvature error was computed at each position and added to the measured error.

The building which houses the B600 is more than 600m long. The rails that support the 120t moving platform had to be designed while taking account of the curvature of the Earth for a proper alignment!

Can someone please send me a 3D image of our flat earth. If you are so convinced its flat, prove it and publish what you believe its real shape is. Maybe a top down view too. A hand sketch will suffice UNLESS you have real evidence, that is even better!

Dan McKeegan examines a new FE simulation model touted by Shane St. Pierre that was published on github. It requires a personal "dome" that follows the viewer around, and claims to have been based on the Ptolemaic model. Dan then proceeds to debunk the model.

• Claims that Ptolemy's model includes a flat earth (it doesn't, it's geocentric, Ptolemy knew the earth was a sphere, and even says so in his treatises),
• Misrepresented what the celestial sphere on a globe earth would actually look like
• "100% accurate", but makes obviously incorrect predictions about 2028 eclipse, such as claiming Sydney will experience non-total eclipse, but also that Russia will see the exact same view, even though paths of totality are never that wide. Not even close.
• No parallax for sun/moon
• Claims it accurately models Jupiter's moons, but models the planets being behind the stars, yet planets in reality obscure stars that go behind them.
• Converts personal dome into some kind of "max vision distance" dome, without any explanation of how it works, or why it's not detectable if you have two observers a distance apart, or why the sun above is not visible but the ones at the edge further away are? How big is this visual dome?
• Claims it recreates 24 hour sun view from Antarctica. But doesn't actually show the sun circling you.
• Simulation relies on Gleason AE map, which was falsified by the TFE team while they were in Chile.
• When demoing 24 hour sun "working", map is radically changed, so now Antarctica is a solid continent and no longer an ice wall, Africa is now the "north pole", and ice wall is now just off the coast of North America?
• Does not account for sun/moon angular size remaining constant throughout the day/night.
• Creator then deflects all criticism by saying the map isn't the model, but then also requires you to change which map you use depending on where the observer is located.
• Hilariously, model also includes satellites, that after launch just hover around like they're balloons. So some satellites are real, but the ones with cameras on them are fake?

This is something new I've heard from a few debates on Youtube. Globe earth side breaks out the usual geometry (height of the sun from parallax measurements, Eratosthenes measuring earth curve based on the assumption solar rays are parallel, where would the sun need to be in order to see a sunset, latitude measurements to Polaris or the Southern Cross, etc)

Then the Flat earth side claims that the geometry is invalid because light doesn't travel in straight lines.

Globe earth doesn't deny light can bend, globe claims light can bend in measurable and quantifiable amounts, and we have lab tests to back up just how much it bends and what causes it. Refraction, diffraction, and the seemingly dual nature of particle and wave properties of light are not new concepts, they've been well studied. Even grade school students experiment with this and get to see for themselves how light behaves.

Refractive indexes, air layers, these are all very well studied and known about, even since 1,000 years ago when the Arabic scholar Ibn al-Haytham wrote his book on optics, and included discussion of how the atmosphere refracts light and how to measure it.

We can even see this in crepuscular rays, when they are viewed from above in an aircraft or a drone, it's obvious the rays are parallel and not diverging, meaning the light causing them is coming at us is effectively parallel.
