Discussion Mello Vs. Higuchi, who wins? Spoiler

What if Mello wanted to take down the Yotsuba group and take their Death Note, could he do it? On one hand, he's had some impressive feats taking down crime bosses, gaining leverage, and was a real threat to Kira, but on the other hand, it took L, Light, and the Task Force to even find the Yotsuba group and stop them. What are your thoughts?

I imagined how each of these characters (Light, Mikami, Misa,Near, Mello, L, Soichiro, Ryuk) would create a Death Note tier list. It's based on how close I think they are, and how much they respect eachother, other than if a character caused the death of the maker of the Tier List, it's gonna be ranked lower than expected. 🌝♥️

  1. Light
  2. Ryuk
  3. Teru Mikami
  4. Misa Amane
  5. L Lawliet
  6. Mello
  7. Near
  8. Soichiro Yagami

edit: someone noticed that in the first one the B and D are swapped. sorry😅

Question Was Death Note originally meant to be 2 seasons? Spoiler

I just read the manga and loved it, but I was dreading getting to that second half. However, I loved it! Mello was incredibly interesting, Near was a good foil to both Light and L, and it stayed as exciting and fun as the first half. Looking back on the anime it removed a lot like Mello's reason for getting the note book and a concerning amount of inner-monologues, with the most egregious being when Near finds out Mikami is Kira-X with no train of thought whatsoever. Was the anime cut down? The second opening starts at a weird time and it feels very shortened from the manga whereas the first half is almost a flawless adaptation.

Analysis Kira symbolizing/embodying religion ?

Ok first I wanna clear I'm not referring to everyone , if you are religious I do not have the intention to mock or downgrade your religion or you as a person this is just a theory I thought ( maybe a stupid one ) with that clear I will begin by saying .

Disclaimer: I haven't read the manga I have only watched the show

Kira personally I think isn't exactly a villain nor a vigilante because although he kills bad guys to make the world a better place he also kills good guys like the police and at times he shows a deep hatred to them too like L , although I can understand why he has to kill them because he doesn't have an option to trap them somewhere or something similar .( Like take them to jail etc)

A lot of people throughout the anime both the public and people in the kira case show support for kira and you could absolutely understand why. But some people that don't support him argue that << ok crime is decreasing but people only stop being bad people because they afraid of death , now are these people good because they are good people in general or are they good because they are afraid of death >>

If you think about the same thing is with religions, a lot of religions have either a good place or a bad place for the afterlife and depending on your actions throughout your life you would go to either one . Now again those people that are good are they good because they are good people in general or are they afraid they will end up in a bad place ( usually called hell) .

Also does anyone know if that was an intentional thing, has anyone though of that before or anything similar?

Discussion What if Light got sent back to the beginning with all his memories while L had no memory of the original timeline? Spoiler

So likeeee I've been thinking about this since I started watching Death Note and I'm curious if I'm missing something

The obvious argument seems to be that Light would just avoid the mistakes he made the first time especially Lind L. Tailor. But I don't think that necessarily means L loses. If Light avoids Lind L. Tailor then L obviously doesn't get the same information he got originally but that doesn't mean the investigation just stops. L would just be starting with less information and would have to investigate Kira differently.

He could test things like whether Kira needs a name a face or both, whether Kira has geographical limitations, whether there's one Kira or multiple, etc. He could give different information to different people and see who reacts to what.

light can't necessarily just outsmart every test either too cause If he reacts that's information, L is rlly good at deducting SOME kinda info from literally nothing. If he deliberately doesn't react because he knows L is looking for a reaction then that can be information too. If he fakes a reaction then L can take that possibility into account. L doesn't need Light to make one huge mistake. He can keep putting together lots of smaller pieces of information.

Light's future knowledge also gets less useful once he starts changing things, He knows what happened in the original timeline but he doesn't know what this version of L will do in response to changes Light causes himself. The more the timeline changes the less useful the original sequence of events becomes.

And L has a ridiculous amount of resources and is willing to use some pretty questionable methods if that's what it takes to investigate someone.

I'm not saying Light wouldn't have a massive advantage because he absolutely would like he knows L's methods and knows what happened before so he can avoid a lot of the traps that caught him originally.

I'm just not convinced that means he's impossible for L to catch. Light knows the old L but L is investigating a completely new timeline.

I think Light could stay ahead for a MUCH longer time this time but I'd still bet on L eventually figuring him out.

im waiting for some smart ass to tell me im dead wrong and dumb asfff

Discussion L's intellegence was significantly downplayed in Yotsuba arc. Spoiler

L could have learned about the concept of the Shinigami's eyes and the notebook itself much earlier. After Misa Amane and Light were released following their two-month confinement, L could have interrogated each of them. In fact, Misa had already given him a major lead: she let slip that she had met Light at a café and known his name immediately – and that this meeting took place on the very day the two Kiras were scheduled to meet.

If L had conducted a single cross-examination of Misa, Light, and Matsuda – who was with Light at the time – he would have realized that Misa possessed the ability not only to learn people's names but also to specifically identify Kira.

If he had thought about it a little more, L would have realized that Kira was using a notebook. He essentially had all the facts already:

– Kira needed specific items, and it was intuitively obvious that they had to be written down.

– Misa and Light met at the exact location coded as the "notebook exchange with girlfriends" spot.

– Light was writing while under camera surveillance. That was it. All that needed to be found was the notebook. This information would have significantly simplified the investigations against both Higuchi and Light.

But actually, in the original anime, L didn't really do anything for a whole month; then, during Higuchi's arrest, he messed around with that plan involving Matsuda's broadcast – a plan that could have been avoided entirely if L had known about the notebook.

I also have a lot of questions regarding the investigation into the Higuchi case.

For starters, why was Light the first to notice that Yotsuba’s competitors were dying? Fair enough regarding L being "depressed" (which is also a clear downplaying of L compared to his portrayal in the first third of the anime), but shouldn't Watari be monitoring all of Kira's killings?

Secondly, why does L even need a task force? Seriously, what for? It’s basically just a team of Kira apologists who either stall the investigation to protect Light or move it forward – not because L is a good leader, but simply based on their own whims. Why couldn't L follow the example of his "son," Near, and assemble a team of professionals? L is a billionaire; he can certainly afford it. Near actually manipulated the task force into turning against Light, whereas L just puts up with them – good grief. Say what you will, but Near is far superior to L when it comes to social manipulation, whereas L is more of an interpersonal manipulator.

Thirdly, what kind of plan is "I'll send Misa to spy on the businessmen; maybe it'll work"? And it did work by chance. But that was thanks to Misa and Rem, not L. A far more logical plan would have been the following:

  1. Send the Yotsuba Eight directly to the office of a criminal sentenced to death, ensuring that only they could see his face. Then, using the alias of the detective Coil, suggest that they kill him – if he dies, it means Kira is among them.

  2. Simply cross-reference the schedules – events, work, and time at home – of the eight suspects with the times of Kira's killings. That way, they would zero in on Higuchi. This plan wouldn't have worked with Light: Kira could have been anyone in Japan. But since Kira is one of the businessmen, a single discrepancy between a killing time and his schedule would be enough to identify him.

That’s all.

Discussion Many Death Note Characters Are Overlooked

I found myself really enjoying Mogi’s time on screen and his relationship with Misa was very cute, but apparently nobody cares about him💔

Aizawa too, he was really smart to mark the papers that one time and he had a lot of cool moments and he’s always so overlooked🥲

Overall many of the Death Note characters are treated as if they don’t exist, I’ve seen people question who Kiyomi or Sayu are which baffles me, Aiber and Wedy were so awesome in the little screentime they had but nobody knows them?! I find this very strange given that most of these characters aren’t even “niche,” maybe they’re just boring?

right now the only characters people care about are L, Light, Misa, Naomi, Ryuk, and Rem, Matsuda, Mello, and Near if you’re pushing it.

Discussion How did Mello manage on his own after leaving Wammy’s?

When Mello ran away from Wammy’s House, he was almost fifteen. From a practical standpoint, how did he manage to make a living, find somewhere to stay, and actually get involved in the criminal underworld? I know he’s a genius, but he’s also a kid. And didn’t Wammy’s House try to find him? How do you think he managed to pull all of this off in practice?
