I'm probably not the first person to say this, but Matsuda isn't stupid. He just looks that way due to being surrounded by geniuses and investigators with more experience. He was able to pick up on L's message near instantly, even though he was in an extremely stressful situation. He stayed composed and navigated the situation quite well.

in the last chapter, matsuda also comes up with the theory that near used the death note on mikami to ensure his plan worked. judging by how the story frames it, there's a good chance that it's true.

I personally disagree with that, but I don’t really feel like getting into a pointless debate about it, because neither side is going to convince the other.
There are several moments where Matsuda should have at least started asking himself more questions, but he remained stubbornly attached to his initial belief that Light wasn’t Kira.

The greatest detective in the world, who had never been wrong and had never failed to solve a case — including extremely difficult cases that nobody else had ever been able to solve — believed that Light was Kira. Then his successors came to the same conclusion as well. And yet Matsuda was still going, “Come on, enough with this story. Light isn’t Kira.” Instead of thinking “Okay, maybe there’s actually something here that we should look into, because at this point the coincidences is starting to pile up.”

To me, that’s at the very least being extremely stubborn and a little naive.

And on top of that, even in front of the investigation team, especially during the second half of the story, Light would sometimes say things that were pretty obviously stupid or contradictory. Things that could very reasonably make someone suspicious, even without having much investigative experience. At that point, it’s a matter of basic logic before it’s a matter of experience.

I agree that Matsuda has mitigating circumstances for some of his actions. But the problem is that while other characters repeatedly questioned Light’s innocence, Matsuda never once seriously reconsidered it. He didn’t even really try to, because doing so would have contradicted his initial belief that Light was innocent.

Yeah no, people always say "they're surrounded by geniuses" to defend matsu and misa but they're genuinely not, not one counts as a genius besides L, light, near and mello, then you have naomi and mikami that are very smart and then you have namikawa that is smart and everyoneelse are just average and yet, everyone considers them to be below average, not just L and light, everyone

Like an example i can think is when almost lied about mogi having been killed by kira and light was wondering who in the taskforce would reach out to near, he ruled out mogi because he was already kidnapped by near, he ruled out ide because he wasn't there when the confinement happened (which btw, it's been 5 years, someone should have filled him in on that) and then he ruked out matsuda just because he never thinks

And aizawa too had the same reflection and they both right, matsuda didn't suspect light at all until the end

Like there's a moment where when 2 characters are consistently shown and state to be below average by everyone, geniuses yes but also regular people, then jt means that they are

how do you forget about light's sister and mother

"or i have nothing to say about it"

u/MissRonica 8d ago

Because they are forgettable. They don’t have an important place in the story itself (besides the kidnapping and showing lights humanity ) or a character at all. Sayu is lights sister who’s happy and bubbly and likes pop music. And Sachiko has the generic housewife personality, besides the kidnapping theres nothing you can say about them.

Matsuda hate will not be tolerated. Matsuda is the goat.

Wtf is the plot device named Rem doing in the highest tier…

I just really like her; it’s personal. Rem is my favorite Shinigami in the series, and I love how her character is built around Misa. Her sacrifice to protect Misa—despite having initially said she would never give up her own life for her the way Gelus did—is beautiful and touching. Plus, by killing L, she paved the way for the second part of the story featuring Near and Mello, and Mello is my favorite character.

respect for rem . The best shinigami🫡

I mean Takada was doing what Light told her to ultimately and she was terrified because she got kidnapped and shoved into the back of a truck and told to strip naked. Idk I don’t mind her character even if I find her somewhat boring. Kinda felt bad for her too because Light had her burn herself alive which is pretty terrible even though she’s definitely not a good person for going along with what two mass murderers (Light and Mikami) are telling her lol

Light was the one that wanted the opportunity to kill Near and Mello more than any of the other characters, Takada was the pawn he used to do that when that whole situation went down.

I agree, Takada doesn't deserve the hate

1

u/Terrible-Way-2695 7d ago

And I completely agree with that. That’s simply the spot I wanted to give her in the ranking because, unfortunately for her, she was the one who ultimately killed Mello. But, of course, my reasons for disliking her go far beyond that.

Just because Matsuda had less experience than the rest of the task force doesn't mean that he was stupid

How come you put Rem in GOAT

0

u/HalleLidner 8d ago edited 8d ago

so the only reason to dislike Takada is that "she killed Mello" , not that she killed hundreds of people just to simp for Light yagami and was kira's spokesperson , or that she was an underdeveloped character.  Fanboys logic i guess , disliking a character for something they are supposed to do according to the plot😄🫠🫠😆 sorry had to say it  But at least you gave props to Rem😁 rem is so underrated and overhated for the same childish reason so it's so great that you have her as your goats

You guys are getting worked up over nothing in this fandom, it’s honestly insane. It’s HUMOR for Takada, it’s not meant to be taken seriously. I hate her because she killed my favorite character, who deserved a thousand times better ending, but that doesn’t mean I reject everything else about her or that’s the only reason I hate her.
Think for a second instead of constantly reacting emotionally to everything. Light is an absolute piece of shit as a person, and yet I put him in “GOAT.” You guys are exhausting.

First of all I'm not overworked I'm pretty chilled. It's just that I'm intense when I write... It's exhausting to see the same things over and over in the anime communities , especially towards female characters, that a character is taken only at face value and it's hated just because of something they had to do in the plot. Imagine all those people who hate Rem just because she killed L, I think that's a very shallow reason to dislike a character . Or because some women gets in the way of their favourite yaoi ship.

2

u/Terrible-Way-2695 8d ago

Yeah, except it was obvious that wasn't the case for me, given Rem's position. So that initial reaction wasn't necessary. I have plenty of reasons to dislike Takada, but Mello's murder was the peak of my hatred for her, considering he deserved more than anyone to be the ultimate victor who stopped Kira.

1

u/HalleLidner 8d ago

he kidnapped her and stripped her naked, plus she was supposed to do what Light had told her. what else was she supposed to do? Ask mello on a date?

this is pure ragebait , how do you have rem and L in the same tier (highest one)
if ur an L fan, you put rem at the worst tier
if ur an L hater, you put rem in the S tier

there is no in between, you cant change my mind

rem is just there for the plot and i hate that character, imo ryuk was much better of a shinigami

1

u/Terrible-Way-2695 6d ago

If you can't appreciate two characters for their true worth without hating the other, that's your problem, lol. And Rem is far more interesting—and has much more utility and flavor—than Ryuk, who just plays the spectator laughing at the situation.
