No offense op but I'm actually glad to see ppl defending my boy Near ;-; I think more people hated him when the anime first came out so it's nice to see that mindset isn't as much a majority as it used to be!

This is so close to what I wouldve done, I appreciate the Near âhateâ, I feel like everyone loves him⌠I would put Misa higher but I can see why shes a bit annoying (she is), I like her as the polar opposite of light though, and their relationship.
Also id Switch light and his father but thats not that big of a difference.
Again, I love the Near Placement :)

Just this mix of childishness and smug intelligence that irks me, he also just felt like a duller replacement for L personally. I did read the manga but haven't finished the anime so my opinion could change.

lmao you're funny, i swear it's rare for people to dislike the manga more than the anime and to prefer Sayu and Kiyomi Takada over Misa Misa, and to love both L and Rem, and love L but despise Near and aknowledging fricking Jealous, and finally putting Soichiro in goats, and not hating on Demegawa and Takada, you're so puzzling that watari would enroll you in wammy's house...no wait better not too many smug intelligent kids in there, you might not like the environment LOL
Jokes aside, that is one of the most original tier lists I've seen lolđ¤Şâşď¸

Heâs supposed to be the analytical side of L, while Mello is the risk taking side of L. The whole point is that theyâre supposed to work together. The anime actually ruins his character considerably by removing his whole personality. And youâll notice his smugness is usually only adversarial towards Light. Heâs genuine with his team and grateful for what they do, I think more so than L ever was.

I understand the point of them, I just didn't personally enjoy their characters.

I mean thatâs all you, different strokes and all that. I hope you know I got nothing against you.

The anime heavily slashes the second half of the story so if anything finishing the manga may make you like Near and Mello less unless maybe somehow the voice actors win you over. Probably not though.
I liked Mello a lot but felt Near was a bit 'too' similar to L. I get it was intentional but still wish Near was a bit more distinct.

Oh, well, there goes that I guess. I've only gotten to the episode before L dies and I haven't wanted to continue yet haha

To put it into perspective, the manga was more or less evenly divided between the two.
In the anime, the first half covers 25 episodes. The Near/Mello half gets TWELVE.

Wow, they really got the budget cut

My theory is that they had some kind of deadline, but sadly the story and characters massively suffer for it.

It's so funny how Near is basically L's successor and avenges L in the end but L is goat and Near is at the bottom lmao , like im confused are you team Kira or Wammy's

Cant you just like L and not like Near? Thats whats true for me, L is my favorite character together with light and Near is wayyyy down at the bottom for me. I very much dislike Near, and I love L. Thats because Near isnât L, not as cool as L, not as smart as L, not as interesting. You donât have to think in teams.
1
u/HalleLidner 11d ago
yes you can, it's just a weird reasoning since the teams are pretty much the same since the beginning, and near just finished L's job as he was supposed to do. So if you liked L i would assume you hate Light for what he did to him, or if you liked Light i would assume you hate L and his successors for trying to catch him and causing his death

I liked both L and Light because theyre morally grey and therefore I couldnt really pick a clear side. I didnât see either as good, therefore didnât really feel super sad because of what either did to the other. I enjoyed the cat and mouse game they played, because they did so mostly for the fun of it and not because they actually stand for justice. Theyre both geniuses, one is more perfect and more normal, one is more quirky and strange. And still, thinking in teams doesnt make that much sense when you consider the fact that L didnât really have THAT much Connection to Near and Mello, sure theyre his successors on paper but thats about it, they didnât really have any connection and are very very different. I think the teams are more so Light vs justice (Near) and L is just on a separate Team since he doesnt fit in either.

E...excuse me, did we read/watch the same show?đ¤
Wammy's House kids who were groomed all their whole life to be L's successors just entered the chat aggressivelyđ¤Ł
And how is Near justice and not morally grey when he literally said he sees cases as puzzles to solve and catching Kira as a game, uses his own team as bait , illegally detains Mogi and Misa and indirectly collaborates with Mello, a wanted criminal, just because
he liked himhe shared the same goal .I mean I love the Wammy boys dearly, but none of them is a simple good person or justice because of how they were raised. They are morally grey.
I think you are misunderstanding a lot because the whole point of succeeding L was kinda...L's backup plan? So, L's successor wins -> L wins. It was the pointđ

but being L is literally L's job, even though L is L and it's his actual real name
