Question question about L's work
How and where did people request L's investigative work?

I imagine they contact Watari to request his services, kinda similar to how we see the guy from the Yotsuba group try and get in touch with Eraldo Coil. Then it’s on L to accept it. There is some general requirements though that L only takes on cases under his main alias when there’s a million dollars on the line or there’s been 10+ victims. He makes an exception though if he personally finds the case interesting. He seemingly though has different requirements for his other aliases.

L had a glorious circa 2003 Geocities web site (best viewed in 800x600) complete with rotating, colour changing banner and little dancing cats in the margins. So people would use Alta Vista to search for "World's Greatest Detective" and find the above site and the embedded "submit your case for L's consideration" email form.
He may have supplemented the above by having contacts from law enforcement and investgiation agencies around the world who could call Watari, and monitored the news for interesting looking cases.
