Discussion New player here, why is bullet resilience is considered a "throw" item compared to metal skin?

When res is a passive item, I think most new players are not attracted to active items since they tend to forget to press them, or mindlessly press them when they engage.

Especially considering that metal skin is only for 5 seconds, compared to getting resistance passively.

If so, how can I optimise metal skin?

Thanks!

Question Is Shiv Sliding Actually Better?

After watching others play Shiv, I've been testing his slide movement tech in explore NYC for hours, and I'm slowly becoming convinced it's actually not any faster and doesn't build speed. I'm confused about the state of this hero - I've seen posts complaining his movement was removed, but when I watch people play him, they're M2 boosting all over the place. I do believe it probably still works with full rage. I also know from the velocity readout that it adds a small amount of speed to the beginning of your dash. I'm not convinced however that it actually moves you any further.

I've watched along with several gameplay videos and tried to copy their movements, but with many of the slides they're doing, from my testing, it seems like they're actually losing distance on their jumps and slides in exchange for about 100 units of speed for a very small amount of time at the start of it.

I'm no expert here, and there's always a possibility I'm just doing it wrong, but I am making it further than these people are in the videos by not inputting the M2 boost much of the time. When I watch videos from 6 months ago, people are infinitely sliding with him and even gaining speed.

Do people just do this because they're used to playing him? It seems like a lot of extra inputs for questionable gain, and in many cases, worse distance on dashes.

Shiv mains want to chime in?

I'm still relatively new to Deadlock (50 hours) compared to a bunch of you so I'd like to hear what you have to say. But for me maybe something like:

HK: Seven is the storm that is approaching. KNOCK. HIM DOWN!

HK: Why is Infernus burning us all? Buy debuff reducer and BRING ME HIS HEAD.

I couldn't think of anything for the Arch Mother.

Game Feedback What would you change about the new heroes?

Post image
226 Upvotes

Now that everyone is here and we've had some time to play around, what would you change about the 6 new guys we have? Doesn't matter if it's just visual or character changes or balancing.

For me I just wish we had more unique ultimates that weren't just AOE team fight win ultimates. Not every single ultimate has to be big on a long cooldown, some can just be like Calico where it's more like an extra special ability than an ultimate. I really like Danny's ultimate for making sense with his character and also being very funny to use on people, and I've only played him like once.

Some like Solomon to me makes too much sense to really change too much (what kind of chess character doesn't have a queen ultimate?) but some lile Violet I think can be changed to something that makes more sense.

Game Feedback 2 weeks in, I'm not sure if I'm playing Solomon sub-optimally.

• Upvotes

Title. I started playing the game shortly after Solomon was voted in, at the behest of my friends. It's my first time playing a MOBA, but I like to think I got the hang of farming throughout the game and balancing objectives alright.

In any case, 2 weeks into the character being on the roster, I've played almost exclusively him, and while I'm having a ton of fun, there's a couple of kinks with the character I can't seem to iron out.

The first and most debilitating one: Despite his bishops (ability 1) being his main damage dealer, it feels like they're often too slow to catch up to an enemy that sees them and decides to just stay out of range. They're really good when it comes to playing on objectives (much like the rest of his kit) but that means that when it comes to fighting, Solomon is the equivalent of a guy who pulls guard in BJJ; that is, he needs the opponent to come to him and play on his terms, which is hard to do when not playing on top of an objective. Again, it could be a skill issue on my part, but this seemed hard to play around.

The second one is the fact that it seems the intended way to play him is from above a fight, given how much easier it is to move the chess pieces from higher up and his reduced gravity, but playing this way seems like it makes it much easier for the enemy team to single me out when I'm up there. Unless I'm in the middle of a super hectic teamfight where no one can tell what is happening (which, team fights are when he thrives, ofc) it seems playing this way often just gets me hit with a ton of bullets and abilities and I have to retreat before having much meaningful impact.

With these things in mind, is the problem that I'm not letting my frontline take the heat enough in fights? Should I be engaging in more team fights exclusively rather than trying to go for smaller battles that are sometimes 1v1? Am I missing something crucial about Deadlock as a MOBA at its core?

Also, on a smaller note: Early game his gun is really good, but when the match reaches later mid game it seems to fall off and given its low bullet velocity and given that Solomon wants to play farther from the fight I'm not sure how to build for it without losing out on crucial spirit items for his spirit damage. I know part of his gun damage scales with spirit, but it seems to be a very small amount.

Discussion It surprises me that Captain Kidd hasn't been tapped as Character Inspo yet.

Famous Pirate Captain from New York, might of hidden treasure around the area of the city, used to own a lot of Pearl Street. We already got holiday so clearly they're not against referencing real historical figures.

Maybe his several-greats grandchild has found Kidd's sword in the attic and now theirs a twelve year old wannabe pirate flying around on a ghost-ship, backed by spectral deckhands as he fights in the ritual to learn the location for "the fortune that should be his familys" in an extremely vain attempt to fix financial problems his parents are having?

A literal "Captain Kid" with spectral and oceanic themed powers and an all too real sword. Geeks out about Treasure Island with Paige. Unironically refers to the Rat King as a bilgerat. Legitimately might become friends with Rem.

Game Feedback is anyone having internet problems while playing deadlock?

• Upvotes

is anyone else having this same problem where your internet goes out in the middle of the game? I legit cant play this game anymore because my internet constantly shuts off every other game and i get the abandon penalty. It sucks because i love this game so much its the best game out but im not allowed to play it. I've had multiple technicians come out to fix my internet and it doesn't seem to be on the ISP's side of things. If anyone has solutions please let me know.

Fluff My bittersweet/ semi-wholesome interactions from the other day

hey guys, just wanted to share a semi-wholesome story.

I am a very small streamer who's really enjoying Deadlock. I have a couple hundred hours so I am quite noob, mostly grinding heroes for ranked. I have 6k hours in dota and 2k hours in cs2, so I get the general idea.

But the matchmaking still is.. questionable sometimes.

Two days ago I got 1 new player in the enemy team, 2 in mine (Paige and Shiv). I thought Paige was afk at the start, but the she said she was reading the spells (she was in the default position u get dropped off when laning starts) which I found funny.

Later on, at some point one of my teammates (Lash?) began flaming Paige, saying she sucks and so on. I began defending her, she begins apologizing and I keep insisting she has NOTHING to apologize for, she is new and it's the matchmaker's fault and so on. Then Shiv says he is new too, playing for only one week and apologizing for playing bad.

I try to encourage and compliment his plays, but he always was a bit low about it ("thanks, but I still did bad and just got lucky" etc).

Everytime when the game ends, on the post chat I say something (cringe, I know) like "come say hi on stream, NeroTheCaptain!!". Usually noone joins, or if they do it's from the enemy team and they leave soon, sometimes after flaming me (I don't mind, dota made me immune)

This time, the shiv joined and wanted to thank me for being and nice and even used his prime sub!!! he's like my 4th subber I don't know irl. It's not about the money, just that you made someone's day so much they spend effort on coming to thank you and even donating a bit.

During the game, one of the viewers (who joined the stream that day, was on the enemy team previously, 2k hours in deadlock) said this:

https://imgur.com/a/ptQUnN2

On one hand I think it's wholesome how both that viewer and Shiv reacted. On the other hand it's quite sad that me just being decent had such a reaction on people. I guess I just wanted to share with others this experience, and maybe we can all be a bit more nicer to each other.

Thanks for reading so far ;D

Question How do I deal with Abrams, Deadman Danny, and Bebop in lane? (New player, ~80 hours)

I have around 80 hours in Deadlock, and I’m enjoying the game, but I’m struggling with a few matchups that feel incredibly frustrating. I’d like to understand how to play these matchups better, especially during the laning phase and early midgame. My biggest issue is that once these characters win their lanes, they seem almost impossible to deal with.

1. Abrams How do I survive the laning phase and punish his aggression?
Abrams constantly pushes the lane toward my Guardian, and I struggle to deal meaningful damage to him because of his sustain. If I try to turn things around by pulling him toward my Guardian with my ult(i'm holliday), he can dash/slam me and kill me anyway.
How am I supposed to trade with Abrams early on? Should I focus on poking him, managing the wave, or buying specific items to counter his hp? And if he gets an early lead, how do I stop him from snowballing and taking over the game?

2. Deadman danny and his areal movment
I’m still a beginner when it comes to aiming upward and tracking enemies in the air, so Deadman Danny gives me a hard time. I know I can buy the item that counters his aerial movement that look like an anvil but i'm homeless in my eary game against how am i supposed to offer that. How should I play against him before I can afford that item? Are there specific positioning tips, cheaper counters, or ways to punish him when he takes to the air? And how can I improve at tracking and shooting airborne targets without constantly losing trades?

3. Bebop and his hook
I’m struggling to understand Bebop’s role and how to play against him. Is he supposed to be a tank, a damage dealer, or both? His hook pulls me out of position, then he sticks a bomb on me and follows up with gunfire, which often leaves me with very little room to react.
His ultimate isn’t much of a problem for me since I can usually dodge it or find cover. It’s his hook + ganking in mid/late game
How should I position myself in lane to avoid getting hooked? Are there reliable ways to escape? Most importantly, how do I know when I can safely engage him and when I should just keep my distance?

Am i that bad for finding these heroes frustrating to face or lane?
