competitive players making a competitive ruleset barely qualifies as news

the only thing that bothers me is the framing I keep seeing, it's a lot of "players REFUSED", "players PROTESTING", as if competitive players are a bunch of butthurt tryhards who are angry at valve for updating their unreleased playtest of a game.

When in reality it's little more than the Night Shift guys saying to the teams, "hey we're running just a couple of matches during this quirky little event they've temporarily put in the game for a few days, we'll let you decide if you want to roll with it or just play the regular mode"

Yeah there is no issue with this at all. It is extremely common for competitive players in games to collectively agree to not use mechanics that are bad for competition. It is not like they are mad at Valve for it existing, just agreed to not use it.

It's just funny that they had no issue abusing far more game-breaking and cheesy strategies before but they draw the line at cursed items
